Most of my basses have been acquired through trades, I think it's a much more efficient and a cheaper way of getting stuff. I've paid out literally nothing since I bought an Ibanez Musician MC900 for £250, since then i've had a Musicman Stingray, Lakland 55-02 and now the Corvette. All have these have been from trades from that original Ibanez. That said - if [i]no-one[/i] buys a new bass, there will be llittle supply for those looking in the 2nd hand market.

I think if you've got any basses just sat in a stand or case doing nothing, then you might as well sell it. I play all of my basses at least once a week, if I went weeks or months without even touching it then why have it ?

I was going to measure mine (action not anything rude !) then realised I don't have a ruler. :wacko:

A tiny part of me (no, not that part !) thinks some of the reviewers are checking out these posh basses for their own interests, but then again i've always suspected the worst in people ! It may be partially down to a lack of co-operation from main dealers but the boutique ones being much more helpful.. maybe Stuart / Mike can enlighten us ?

I remember him at the aforementioned bass bash, we must have had a natter at some point i'm sure. Really sad news.

Just mocked this up in Paintshop... Fairly basic but gives an idea of potentials, oddly enough the yellow is really grabbing me at the moment !

You walk into a music shop and pretty much straight back out again because they only had 1 bass, and you were still lucky to see that.

I think general consensus would be that wooly means lacking in 'sparkle' or top end definition. A bit like when you turn down the treble control on your bass.

I doubt that would be achievable in my garage with my skills ! My painting expertise goes about as far as a few Airfix kits when I was 12 . Although that is quite nice...

Wow those Fenders are erm... quirky ! Don't think it'd be something I could a) not feel a bit queasy looking at and actually do in the first place ! I think Orange Metallic would look pretty funky, much like the BB414:

I'm not an experienced sprayer so simple would be best ! Car colours are a good source of inspiration, i'm not sure if [color="#FFFF00"][b]bright yellow[/b] [/color]would be a bit much on a fretless bass though ! Lime green would be the same, it'd look cool but I wouldn't want to own it. I'm thinking about a metallic gold/copper at the moment, a bit like this: or

Yamaha beat me to it

I've decided to strip down and repaint my Yamaha RBX775. The stock finish was starting to wear and look a bit tired, especially around the bridge pickup where my thumb rested. Plus I got a bit bored of looking at it ! Anyway - i've already done 90% of the sanding, but just can't decide what colour to go for. The alder body is a 3 piece and mismatched so natural is not an option. I want a colour you don't see this model in so i'm dismissing black, light silver and pretty much any red (don't want similar coloured instruments to what I already have). So what do you think would look good ?! The neck is painted black and i'll leave it that way, the headstock plastic bit i;ve got off so can be sprayed to match whatever I go for. I love them on Jazzes but they get in the way horrendously for my playing style. Precision I think look best with just the pickup cover on it's own .

I can't see any difference other than the pickguard - if you like it enough buy the standard one and make your own !
