I find some of the reviews not too enlightening and somewhat focusing on unimportant aspects of the equipment. However - it has improved recently and I find the reviews too be more impartial, although not totally. I find it very handy and use the reviews to help add direction and substance to the ones I do for Basschat. I will continue to buy it - I feel it's better to have BGM than no magazine - it will only continue to improve. Hats off to Stuart for being transparent on here about his GB affiliation, although it might have been best mentioned in the review .

Just looked at an old email - they charge £75 for a service (plus any major parts).

Hmm. I'm in a funk band and slap in one of our songs, only because it fits perfectly well. There are plenty of songs I know it doesn't work and prefer to sit back and just play 'quietly'. Too much slap is mind-numbing - i'd had enough of it after the last Bass Bash !

The true and original Jazz bass is passive, so for 'authenticity' all Jazzes should be. The Mexican standard does sound like a Jazz bass (well it is one after all). Although - you will get a better sound if you spend more on a US, how much better it is is a matter of opinion. Be aware that Fender don't necessarily make the best Jazz basses either, they have long been surpassed in quality by some other brands. The only problem is - none of those other brands say Fender on the headstock... which for some is blasphemy. And as for the last bass you'll ever buy ? No chance, you'll be lured in and tempted by us lot to buy more .

Definitely the Stingray for me. Not sure if the ABM is the perfect companion to it until i've gigged it..

It'll work - just that it'll be a bit quieter than with a more powerful amp. You do still run the risk of clipping the signal from the head (if you crank it) and creating 'bad noise' for want of a better word. This can still damage the more powerful speakers...

They're ok - probably made in the same factory as lots of other Precision copies. For £100 it's not a bad deal, and if it's a lefty it might be worth going for since you might not get another pop up.

My experience with Laney amps is that they are generally muddy and undefined, there seems to be a lot of colouring from the preamp or speakers.

I still really want an OLP MM32 - they have all the features I want and having played one, the quality is decent enough.

You know you won't get away without telling us who .

You won't get the Stingray sound from it but you will get some of the vibe from it.

I do look forward to BGM - but It does sometimes lack in content. Personally I just like the reviews - i'd be happy if it was 80 pages of bass reviews. Interviews I do read, but don't particularly get in a sweat over. I think they do a good job with it though. The American one is just 100 pages of adverts, i don't bother with it.

I reckon option 3. UK is a smaller market and it's easier to send lots of the same thing.
