2. http://www.myspace.com/shatteredage Has been split for about 9 months now, site still unchanged .
3. I think if you really hacked at it the worst you could do is make big splinter holes near the frets... which wood filler would sort but look a bit odd.
4. Well I managed it so it can't be too bad ! Patience and a steady hand are what you need to get them out, I used a (sharpish) knife to get under the edge of the frets at the one side and then slowly lever them up, and the pliers to remove the rest of them. Splintering of the wood is inevitable, but taking your time it and glueing them back if it happens will sort that. Once you've got the lot out (about a minute per fret once you get into a rhythm) then you'll want to sand the neck down and fill the gaps with wood filler using a spatula or the side of a knife. Let it dry (day or 2) then sand the neck down with firstly course sandpaper, and then lowering grades until the neck is as you want it to be and nice and smooth. A nice dose of lemon oil later and it'll look great. If you want to epoxy it then don't ask me .
5. I'd definitely upgrade the amp before the bass, it can make a whole world of difference to hear things properly.
6. I think £800 is a fair price. People seem to think that all Rays 2nd hand should cost about £600, but the earlier ones (late 80's-late 90s) had such fantastic birdseye maple necks which I feel should warrant a higher price. Also any with a trans bridge and before (pre-97) look more like an original Ray and I feel are more sought after.
7. I wasn't ruining it though - you were ! To be fair my comments were hardly serious or threatening, but quite light hearted from where I was sitting. Perhaps I should have PM'd you first but I didn't - no going back ! Good luck in selling the Iceni scrawntcher.
8. You'll be glad to know that as a moderator I am still allowed to have opinions .
9.
i cant stand the fact that you have posted your email address rather than asked to be pm'd it;s as if you actually are treating this like a free classified ad, and lack of pictures and indeed any details about you or the bass, a poor classified ad at that prove me wrong, introduce yourself, and actually be a member of the forum
Please do ignore BassManKev, he seems to think he runs the place when in fact - the only thing he does run is the BassManKev Official Fanclub (1 member). There is no requirement to participate in the forum before posting items for sale, however it can help your sale if people trust you more based on your actions elsewhere in the forum.
10. Shame I couldn't snag that OLP before you got it ! Looking at getting a new Graphite Pearl one - how is it ?
11. I picked up one in PMT last week, didn't plug it in but it was very light and played well. Didn't like the 'battleship grey' neck though .
12. A 93 should have a lovely birdseye maple neck and in my book worth a bit more than a more modern one without. I reckon £650 is a good deal and up to £750 depending on condition.
13.
great bass though - have ordered my bb714 hurrah
Hurry up and post pics when it comes, I can't wait to express my disapproval .
14.
I've been investigating a weird crackling in my V950B... I took the cover off the controls section and found the pickups had been disconnected sometime by cutting the wires and then reconnecting them by wrapping the exposed ends together and using insulation tape to hold the joins together... no solder at all... I think the pickups had been replaced sometime without taking advantage of the proper connectors on the PCB... No photos yet... I'll take them when I strip it back to do a proper fix (soldering the twists and then using insulation tape...)
Yep that was standard Vintage construction at the time - my V940FL was the same.
15.
they offered to send a brand new neck.
I suppose at those prices they can afford to .
16. Either are acceptable, I looked it up before hand .
17. Usually the bass on full and the treble either on or off, depending on the dynamics of the song.
18.
Spector basses and Schecter guitars needed a new UK home, and Arbiter will now be handling both of them, which the company assures will now be available to the wider UK MI industr
This is good, was always fedup of having to go there if I wanted to see these.
19. You can start on a 5 string but it will be a little bit harder than on a 4. If the music you want to play doesn't need a 5th string i'd say don't bother. So where you from sulfr ? And yes - I played guitar first and moved over to bass after about 6 months .
