1. Asterisks are a preference for me also.
2.
My teacher has Sadowsky bass, friend - MusicMan, and so on - the point is that no-one has P-bass
I stand corrected ! I still think you should go with the Ibanez, it's got more to it (in my eyes) than a Fender Precision.
3. When I first got my BB614 it was much the same - however I gave it a setup immediately and it was superb. Perhaps Yamaha don't do the instrument justice in the factory setup ?
4. I'd go for the Ibanez without a doubt. The Ibanez will produce tones similar to the Fender but with a more modern sound. As far as build quality is concerned, the Prestige models are great. The other players and your teacher I suspect probably have a Precision themselves and haven't tried the Ibanez to really comment on it - they are airing on the side of tradition.
5. I find sweat kills my strings the most. I am a tight when it comes to strings - haven't bought any since November. An occasional boil does me fine - I don't play for hours on end (maybe 2-3 hours a week tops) and attribute that to how long I keep them for before buying new ones. That new string zing can be over the top - I prefer strings a few weeks old.
6. Way beyond my price bracket - but nice to see some stuff opened up from the US market.

*edit*

I'll be seeing it in November hopefully .
8. I can offer you a half used packet of Benadryl and packet of kleenex (never gigged) ?
9. Great review and what a lovely looking bass.. Has my Spector GAS rekindled .
10. No ATK's though - when I spoke to Dave Sheriff he knew nothing about them.
11. GAK have the ATK700 - but only because I asked them about it. I think thomann is your best bet.
12. I think my Stingray has a slight (and only slight) deadspot on 6th fret G - not a note I hit too often thankfully.
13. Won't be able to make this i'm afraid - have fun though chaps.
14. Yep £9.50 PH is certainly not to be snubbed. Take advantage of it and get yourself some gear to last.
15. It appears to be mods only - certainly something to change. I'll set it visible.
16. Have listened to it a few times now - it's similar in feel to Octavarium, i'm sure it'll grow on me .
17. I think every bass i've had has had a deadspot to some degree of severity. It's inevitable..
18. Good price on this - had the 4 string version and is well worth the cash.
19. The Sandberg Basic I tried felt quite similar to a Stingray - certainly has the same specs. I rate them highly..
20. I have some samples.. will upload later if I remember .
21. Flatwounds all the way - D'Addario Chromes are my personal recommendation.
22. Like this, right ? http://www.stringsandthings.co.uk/spec_sray4_2pu.htm They're available as H/HS/HH - you'd need to order one through a dealer.
23. Sorry, only ped gets to see my tongue nowadays.
24. John Myung - Fantastic chops and very modest with it - compliments Dream Theater wonderfully. Steve Harris - Does all it needs to make the songs sound great, dosn't go over the top. Marcus Miller - Amazing groover and all around down-to-earth chap, saw him live and he blew me away. Trip Wamsley - Completely under-rated solo bassist who would put a few famous names to shame, worth checking out. Jason Newstead - Made me want to play bass, just enjoys(ed) what he did and wasn't fussed about being flashy.
25. This pic looks a bit better than the vid.
