1.
Bloody hell !! Your timing's terrible I'm stuck in "no basses for the rest of my life" mode. Always fancied the DX model ever since machine's review on here. http://basschat.co.u...intage-v1004dx/ Sold my spalted maple 4 string last year and it's 5 string cousin went in May. Cracking basses, Vintage set their sights high when they released these. GLWS
Good review that.
2. I haven't bought a CD in over 6 years and all the ones I had I threw away. Spotify is my only collection now and I can use it anywhere. My car doesn't even have a CD player, I just stream via Bluetooth.
3. My 5HS is modified with a scallop after 24th fret to end of the board. This has helped a lot.
4. I played a Stingray in a shop where the EQ wasn't working but it sounded great flat. Then I checked and there was no battery - so it CAN can work without.
5. I've got Jaco Pastorius's 1984 Musicman Bongo for sale, PM me for good price very much.
6. Lakland prices have gone up nearly 50% in the last few years on GuitarGuitar. I wonder if this more recent change could be to blame Now at £1450 for a 44-02, I remember them being £1250 a few weeks ago and under £1k a couple of years back.
7.
Just wondered as I received a bass from them a few years ago and was quite disappointed with the overall cleanliness and condition compared to how it had been portrayed in the blurb. I guess that's the risk when you buy without trying first!
Basically. I think they wipe down and make every instrument playable but a full setup and clean ? Haha no.
8.
Looks lovely, just out of interest did the BassDirect advert say that the bass was fully cleaned and setup with new strings?
Setup yes strings no. They were utter crap. Setup is personal anyway but only needed a truss rod tweak for me.
9.
But ... these are just yet another Fender copy series. And they have dropped the Curbow which was the most interesting design they ever made. All their basses are now P or super-P with little character. They have become bland and boring.
Supply and demand. Like it or not Fender inspired instruments sell by the bucket load.
10.
I noticed that the preamplifier diagram for the GBxxJJ models on the Cort website is labelled 'Sandberg', which could suggest a suitable upgraded circuit.
That could make the difference. I'd say that if you added a coil tap it's essentially a Lakland 55-02 but half the price. Made in same factory I'd wager.
11. I had a GB75 for a couple of years. Upgraded to Aguilar pickups which helped alot. But something just didn't take me. Sounded good flat but preamp really shoddy compared to other brands (massive hiss in treble and bottom end too boomy). I tried for so long to love it but eventually never did so sold it. No regrets.
12. Told you I wanted a 5 string. Bought from jassbass. Desert Gold and in great condition.
13.
I think user error is as harsh as one-trick-pony... I cannot imagine a situation where I could not make my Stingray fit in, but it clearly has a type of sound (which is why I like it so much) that others may not prefer... just like any other bass, really. Is a Precision a one trick pony too? I wouldn't say so, but whatever. Give me a Stingray or even a Precision ahead of any twin pickup bass, but that's just what I prefer.
What about a P Bass with a MM pickup in the right place ?
14. Look like you can't trust anyone nowadays.
15. Update
16. Yep that's right. Doesn't time fly when you're having fun?!
17. It wouldn't work. The Stingray humbucker senses signal from a wider area thus changing the harmonic content compared to a narrower pick up.
18. Just bought one one myself. Looks in great condition. Good luck with sale!
19.
Y ou won't get a Stingray sound from a narrow pickup such as a Jazz. Part of the sound is because of how wide it is (and the position)
This.
