It's all the name on the headstock. If it were a Fender model (brand not designer) and came out in the 70s it'd sell great.

The price is correct though. BassDirect usually sell their stock very quickly.

You may sell others and be happy but I guarantee it will be temporary. Half the fun of basses for me is getting new ones. I've slowed right down now and I think I could manage with just my Lakland and Bongo in terms of sonic palette but always welcome picking up the P bass or fretless for new ideas.

Painted necks don't bother me I don't notice any difference. This is definitely NOT a bass for passive purists but for me it works amazingly well.

Picked up from BassDirect yesterday. This one is from 2004 and has seem some life (significant wear of finish on back of neck and plenty of dings) but it has character and I can see has been well played. I had wanted one for many years and had various trade deals on here for one fall through last minute. Ideally I wanted a 5 string version, but I don't need one as my Lakland is a very capable 5 string and I lacked a robust 4 string until now. When I tested in the shop the strings were dead but they put me some new ones one when I asked. This brought the bass to life and I knew very quickly I'd be buying it. It desperately needed a good clean and setup but I was happy to do this myself as part of my new bass ritual (full strip, clean and new strings). A quick lemon oil, truss rod tweak, new strings, and microfibre cloth later it was looking as good as new (well nearly). I hope this is a keeper, I think the only thing that would get this off me is the 5 string version that I don't need . I took my Cort in for commission sale and fancied trying a few things since I was there. Tried a G&L L2000 and a 2nd hand Bongo. The former was good but had one before and remembered why I moved it on. The Bongo had the worst strings I've ever seen on a bass and made it sound lifeless (they were like dead flatwounds). I said I couldn't play it like this and they offered to put new strings on there and then. 10 mins later all good and I put a deposit down on the Bongo. Don't ask don't get.

I was in on Thursday and it wasn't there but didn't ask.

So there's some reasonable truth in it. I expect it'll become a luxury addon and low spec instruments will have the newer materal.

I borrowed a headed 5 string S2 Classic for a few days. Lovely instrument would consider buying one in future. Felt like absolute quality.

Another Lakland vote from me. My 55-60 is outstanding.

I have quite different ones that may overlap a bit. I've come to conclusion though I'm selling one that is a great bass but after 2 years still doesn't make me grin like the others.

I'd like this but with a neck pickup too (with same options) but keeping the bridge pickup where it is, this would make it similar to an L-2000 but with better MM sounds available, I also prefer it with a pickguard which isn't available on the L-2000.

Drummers are also generally rarer than other players so are always in demand, so if bored can be likely to just leave.

The pickup is in the wrong place for a Stingray tone. Also the EQ is very different.

Well it's definitely loud enough. I'm used to a more complex EQ but the 3 provided do seem to have the right centres. I find I generally need the treble at 7 to get anything sounding decent though. My old GenzBenz was better, but this is smaller and lighter and I don't gig anymore so definitely a capable amp for home use and possible rehearsal/jam usage.

Just picked up a 2nd hand combo for under 200 quid from Crack Converters. Seemed a good deal and it is in good condition. I sold my GenzBenz Contour 500 210 last year as it was taking up too much space and somewatt (sic) overpowered for home practice. Got tomorrow off work so going to give it a good workout, if it's a duffer I have a 24 hour return policy on it.
