1. Told you I wanted a 5 string. Bought from jassbass. Desert Gold and in great condition.
2.
I think user error is as harsh as one-trick-pony... I cannot imagine a situation where I could not make my Stingray fit in, but it clearly has a type of sound (which is why I like it so much) that others may not prefer... just like any other bass, really. Is a Precision a one trick pony too? I wouldn't say so, but whatever. Give me a Stingray or even a Precision ahead of any twin pickup bass, but that's just what I prefer.
What about a P Bass with a MM pickup in the right place ?
3. Yamaha RBX775 now on 13 years.
4. Look like you can't trust anyone nowadays.
5. Update
6. It could easily be a shill bidder.
7. Yep that's right. Doesn't time fly when you're having fun?!
8. It wouldn't work. The Stingray humbucker senses signal from a wider area thus changing the harmonic content compared to a narrower pick up.
9. Just bought one one myself. Looks in great condition. Good luck with sale!
10.
Y ou won't get a Stingray sound from a narrow pickup such as a Jazz. Part of the sound is because of how wide it is (and the position)
This.
11. You sold them too cheap for sure.
12. It's all the name on the headstock. If it were a Fender model (brand not designer) and came out in the 70s it'd sell great.
13. The price is correct though. BassDirect usually sell their stock very quickly.
14. You may sell others and be happy but I guarantee it will be temporary. Half the fun of basses for me is getting new ones. I've slowed right down now and I think I could manage with just my Lakland and Bongo in terms of sonic palette but always welcome picking up the P bass or fretless for new ideas.
15. Painted necks don't bother me I don't notice any difference. This is definitely NOT a bass for passive purists but for me it works amazingly well.
16.
What about starting a Bongo thread? There seem to be lots more to choose from these days and I'd like to see whats out there?
This has kind of turned into one. I have always been a trend setter.
17.
Great choice, never parting with mine. Myung says its the perfect bass and if its good enough for him......
I saw Dream Theater on Tuesday and they were world class. The Bongo shone through and sounded amazing which sealed the deal for me.
18.
Thanks for the soundclip, a whole bunch of cool tones there. That's encouraging as I'm getting this H/S next week: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/303106-sold-musicman-bongo-5hs/page__fromsearch__1
Very nice. It won't let you down.
19.
I kindof like the Bongo - it shouldn't look good, but somehow it does.
I don't think lighter colours lend well to it. This may be why you can't get them in 'porcelain white' or the toilet seat jokes will never leave. I must say this colour and pickguard combo really do it for me.
20.
I've been saying that too for over 10 years, hope it isn't another 10 years until I do.... Good score Machines.
A Fender Marcus Miller Jazz is still on the list as well as a Fireglow 4003.
21.
Is that colour Egyptian Smoke?
Graphite pearl I believe.

UM BONGO

Picked up from BassDirect yesterday. This one is from 2004 and has seem some life (significant wear of finish on back of neck and plenty of dings) but it has character and I can see has been well played. I had wanted one for many years and had various trade deals on here for one fall through last minute. Ideally I wanted a 5 string version, but I don't need one as my Lakland is a very capable 5 string and I lacked a robust 4 string until now. When I tested in the shop the strings were dead but they put me some new ones one when I asked. This brought the bass to life and I knew very quickly I'd be buying it. It desperately needed a good clean and setup but I was happy to do this myself as part of my new bass ritual (full strip, clean and new strings). A quick lemon oil, truss rod tweak, new strings, and microfibre cloth later it was looking as good as new (well nearly). I hope this is a keeper, I think the only thing that would get this off me is the 5 string version that I don't need . Sound test (recorded on my phone): https://soundcloud.com/matthew-checkley/musicman-bongo-4hh
23. I took my Cort in for commission sale and fancied trying a few things since I was there. Tried a G&L L2000 and a 2nd hand Bongo. The former was good but had one before and remembered why I moved it on. The Bongo had the worst strings I've ever seen on a bass and made it sound lifeless (they were like dead flatwounds). I said I couldn't play it like this and they offered to put new strings on there and then. 10 mins later all good and I put a deposit down on the Bongo. Don't ask don't get.
