1.
Looks lovely, just out of interest did the BassDirect advert say that the bass was fully cleaned and setup with new strings?
Setup yes strings no. They were utter crap. Setup is personal anyway but only needed a truss rod tweak for me.
2.
But ... these are just yet another Fender copy series. And they have dropped the Curbow which was the most interesting design they ever made. All their basses are now P or super-P with little character. They have become bland and boring.
Supply and demand. Like it or not Fender inspired instruments sell by the bucket load.
3.
I noticed that the preamplifier diagram for the GBxxJJ models on the Cort website is labelled 'Sandberg', which could suggest a suitable upgraded circuit.
That could make the difference. I'd say that if you added a coil tap it's essentially a Lakland 55-02 but half the price. Made in same factory I'd wager.
4. I had a GB75 for a couple of years. Upgraded to Aguilar pickups which helped alot. But something just didn't take me. Sounded good flat but preamp really shoddy compared to other brands (massive hiss in treble and bottom end too boomy). I tried for so long to love it but eventually never did so sold it. No regrets.
5. Told you I wanted a 5 string. Bought from jassbass. Desert Gold and in great condition.
6.
I think user error is as harsh as one-trick-pony... I cannot imagine a situation where I could not make my Stingray fit in, but it clearly has a type of sound (which is why I like it so much) that others may not prefer... just like any other bass, really. Is a Precision a one trick pony too? I wouldn't say so, but whatever. Give me a Stingray or even a Precision ahead of any twin pickup bass, but that's just what I prefer.
What about a P Bass with a MM pickup in the right place ?
7. Yamaha RBX775 now on 13 years.
8. Look like you can't trust anyone nowadays.
9. Update
10. It could easily be a shill bidder.
11. Yep that's right. Doesn't time fly when you're having fun?!
12. It wouldn't work. The Stingray humbucker senses signal from a wider area thus changing the harmonic content compared to a narrower pick up.
13. Just bought one one myself. Looks in great condition. Good luck with sale!
14.
Y ou won't get a Stingray sound from a narrow pickup such as a Jazz. Part of the sound is because of how wide it is (and the position)
This.
15. You sold them too cheap for sure.
16. It's all the name on the headstock. If it were a Fender model (brand not designer) and came out in the 70s it'd sell great.
17. The price is correct though. BassDirect usually sell their stock very quickly.
18. You may sell others and be happy but I guarantee it will be temporary. Half the fun of basses for me is getting new ones. I've slowed right down now and I think I could manage with just my Lakland and Bongo in terms of sonic palette but always welcome picking up the P bass or fretless for new ideas.
19. Painted necks don't bother me I don't notice any difference. This is definitely NOT a bass for passive purists but for me it works amazingly well.
20.
What about starting a Bongo thread? There seem to be lots more to choose from these days and I'd like to see whats out there?
This has kind of turned into one. I have always been a trend setter.
21.
Great choice, never parting with mine. Myung says its the perfect bass and if its good enough for him......
I saw Dream Theater on Tuesday and they were world class. The Bongo shone through and sounded amazing which sealed the deal for me.
22.
Thanks for the soundclip, a whole bunch of cool tones there. That's encouraging as I'm getting this H/S next week: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/303106-sold-musicman-bongo-5hs/page__fromsearch__1
Very nice. It won't let you down.
23.
I kindof like the Bongo - it shouldn't look good, but somehow it does.
I don't think lighter colours lend well to it. This may be why you can't get them in 'porcelain white' or the toilet seat jokes will never leave. I must say this colour and pickguard combo really do it for me.
