1. Current GAS is an Ibanez SR755. I love split P pickups on 5 strings for some reason and add them being Nordstrands all for 700 quid (200 of which is pickups) Looks very classy and the video i saw not totally unlike a Warwick. I need to try one out as I'm used to wider necks. http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/bass_guitars_detail.asp?stock=14123112154458
2. Sold as seen without recourse. You aren't obliged to offer a warranty.
3. I have just qualified. Joined a band and had 3 rehearsals for a mix of covers and originals - all of us roughly equally skilled but I have possibly the most gigging experience as well as diversity in music. Everyone agreed a 3-4 week break due to holidays etc, I messaged the group to ask when we were reconvening and was told pretty much "we're changing the band with one guitarist now playing bass instead of you, sorry bye" I just hope he's better at bass than he is guitar.
4. Actually I just realised who the OP is. I have seen you go through many basses in the last few months and I think you are the problem, not the basses. You have no idea what you want and don't appreciate fully what you had, you need to really work on establishing that before doing anything. What helped for me was actually getting several diverse basses, even if they were a bit cheaper than I could afford in one instrument.
5. Nothing anyone tells you on this forum is going to make your decision. get to a shop and try things out.
6.
Kind of what I found. I thought he seemed very close minded and opinionated for someone in sales, particularly in music instrument retail which is so individual taste and subjective driven.. ... I still bought from him as he had let me try a few amps/cabs and sold it at good prices and in stock.
That's because he wants to sell you what you need, not necessarily what you think you want. If you go with GAS and buy on a whim, then end up flogging it weeks later on the forum, it devalues the brand (of which he has a few exclusively). As such, he may not tell you what you want to hear, an honest salesman if you like.
7. Which is better for metal ?
8. And if anyone does know, i want a set of 5 for my ATK200 / A thought, have you tried asking Headstock Distribution ?
9.
They are just as versatile as a Precision bass, if not more so. A HH or HS will cover more ground than a Jazz....IMO.
Agreed, but I believe this thread is around a normal single H Stingray.
10. Of course you can play any style on any bass, in the same way you can drive any car to work. It's just how suitable it is in terms of sound, and whether you are aiming to emulate something or make it unique. A Stingray will never sound like a P or a J.
11. Note to all. Lemon oil does not taste as nice as it should.
12. Have you tried calling Strings & Things and asking them who could stock one ? http://stringsandthings.co.uk/
13. Wasn't it because MusicMan wouldn't give him a signature model ?
14. It is my understanding that this is not the exclusive income for the potential person being referred to, or that they are not reliant upon it. I have dealt with this seller before and had no problems, but it was 2013 when it was a much smaller operation.
15. If lemon oil was that acidic wouldn't the lemon dissolve itself ?
16.
Second time I've been conned/robbed, reckon if I'm not on it will make it harder.
Would you like to trade for some magic beans ?
17. If they do a custom version with block inlays and a matching headstock it'd be a bit nicer.
18. Hmm not bad. About time they did something new with the Skylines - i'm just not sure about that colour.
19.
I offered a bass for trade with them and they told me not to bother. Just said I'd easy get more selling private. And I did, about £400 more
Always the case. You'd have to be pretty desperate or impatient to trade.
20.
For what it worth Mark seems a great guy when he is selling you something,But you try to chop something in.An other Mark Appears ,
Trades are harder to bank than cash. It may takes months to shift a traded instrument. From a cashflow point of view it's terrible I expect so making it as profitable as possible seems reasonable.
21.
i gave my 12year old lad a roasting the other day for not replying to a text from me (just one about collecting him from school) - he insisted he hadn't received it and it came through as we were talking - he genuinely hadn't received it.
Modern apps like Viber and WhatsApp allow you to see when a message is delivered and also seen. It does require a data connection however.
