1. Of course you can play any style on any bass, in the same way you can drive any car to work. It's just how suitable it is in terms of sound, and whether you are aiming to emulate something or make it unique. A Stingray will never sound like a P or a J.
2. Note to all. Lemon oil does not taste as nice as it should.
3. Have you tried calling Strings & Things and asking them who could stock one ? http://stringsandthings.co.uk/
4. This new one really needs a pickguard.
5. Wasn't it because MusicMan wouldn't give him a signature model ?
6. It is my understanding that this is not the exclusive income for the potential person being referred to, or that they are not reliant upon it. I have dealt with this seller before and had no problems, but it was 2013 when it was a much smaller operation.
7. If lemon oil was that acidic wouldn't the lemon dissolve itself ?
8.
Second time I've been conned/robbed, reckon if I'm not on it will make it harder.
Would you like to trade for some magic beans ?
9. If they do a custom version with block inlays and a matching headstock it'd be a bit nicer.
10. Hmm not bad. About time they did something new with the Skylines - i'm just not sure about that colour.
11.
I offered a bass for trade with them and they told me not to bother. Just said I'd easy get more selling private. And I did, about £400 more
Always the case. You'd have to be pretty desperate or impatient to trade.
12.
For what it worth Mark seems a great guy when he is selling you something,But you try to chop something in.An other Mark Appears ,
Trades are harder to bank than cash. It may takes months to shift a traded instrument. From a cashflow point of view it's terrible I expect so making it as profitable as possible seems reasonable.
13.
i gave my 12year old lad a roasting the other day for not replying to a text from me (just one about collecting him from school) - he insisted he hadn't received it and it came through as we were talking - he genuinely hadn't received it.
Modern apps like Viber and WhatsApp allow you to see when a message is delivered and also seen. It does require a data connection however.
14. A cheap tort will look as such. Proper ones seem to have real depth to the pattern and don't look so 'printed'.
15. My Lakland has done a few gigs but always been very well treated. I've had it for 3 years now and it is pretty much immaculate, so I think whenever the first major ding happens I will not be happy and probably try and repair it (if paintwork). My Precision is 10 years old and I got it 2nd hand, it's also in decent condition but as it's quite common (MIM) and replaceable, I don't feel as precious about it. Also there is somewhat of a fashion for beat up Fenders, which leads on to my Strat. It's a MIJ 54 Reissue with a nitro finish. It's got a few bits missing on the back and sides and I feel no need what so ever to treat it nicely - you'd pay big money for this if done in the Fender factory. I'm not exactly throwing it around, but i'm not as careful when putting back in the stand.
16. I find boredom is a big factor. At the moment I REALLY want a red Precision with a maple neck. It won't do anything my existing instruments can't but it looks nice. When I take a break from all my instruments I come back to them and I swear they sound better than when I last played them.
17. Putting my chips down on the offender having debt or addiction problems.
18.
This is theft pure and simple. Call the cops.
I believe it's obtaining goods via deception. He was given it willingly on a premise of payment afterwards.
19. Wow. I am more surprised you trusted a total stranger with a few grand than that they disappeared without trace. This should go straight to the Police.
20. I upgraded my Cort GB75 with Aguilar pickups and it's a massive improvement, however the preamp is still colouring the sound a little which I dislike. I am tempted to remove it altogether and just have a passive bass since there's already £200 of pickups in a £75 bass, I don't fancy another £150 on a new preamp.
21. I've gone through about 25 instrument in the past 14 years, it has been an expensive but fun journey through many different types of basses until I found out what it is I generally get on with. Every one I have sold has had a good reason for me not using it, and I am sure my acquisitions will slow down a lot now I have such a versatile range I can do anything with. There is nothing I don't love and I can't think of anything i'd swap them for (price relative).
22. I've gone from 6, to 4, to 5. I like having enough that I sometimes forget I have one and it feels like NBD if it's been a while since I played it. I downsized from 6 as 3 were effectively so low in the pecking order I might as well not have them, so wanted to release some capital. So sold 2 of them with the mind that one of those 3 i'd want again some day (and I did). A 5th instrument was not by choice, but as a gift so no guilt.
23. Generally both pickups on full, but will solo either depending on circumstance.
24. That is a massive price range and you can probably buy most things you want 2nd hand. Define what you want and start there (look at new values of £1000-£1800 as indicators).
Warwicks aren't popular at the minute. Some of the prices i've seen some German made ones go for are ridiculous.
I sold my Korean Pro Series for £350 recently - which I think was quite a result considering the Germans go for about that.
25. My only experiences are a 99 Jazz that was OK, pickups were poor so replaced with Nordstrand which helped a lot. I also have a 2005 Precision which is stock but sounds and plays great. I may change the pickup again but only through curiosity.
