Shop trade ins are always bad value and shopa can be very keen to get people to do so as they can make money on both the bass they've sold you AND the one you traded in. It relies on your impatience and dissatisfaction with your current gear. Dont give in!

Ed Friedland is the best reviewer out there by far. The reviews are always clear and not showing off.

The Lakin was pleasing for me too, but not a lot more than my MIM Fender already is. Disappointed with the Thumb, string spacing too tight for someone used to a Lakland.

Designer basses, like designer goods are by no means more fit for purpose than 'common' goods but satisfy those with a high degree of disposable income who want the elite items.

I hope not, those reviews were awful and the authors annoying.

My main bass is a 5 but I play some 4's too. I feel limited in terms of notes on the 4's but conversely more comfortable. I have a 6 too that I play the least, I lack the dedication to learn it properly and probably sell it for something 'easier' that I'll use.

Without the Made in USA in the headstock I'd have thought it was a Squier. However, I did not play or plug it in, so this is not the most comprehensive review.

It just seemed poor, the fretboard wood was very cheap looking.

Unless you spend a lot of time changing tuning between songs and they're causing you problems then I wouldn't waste the money. Mine are perfectly good and i've never had an issue with them.

Thanks for the opinions chaps. I think i'll go for the Corvette, as it already has a preamp and I could effectively turn it into a FNA Jazzman (apart from the angled neck pickup). Now I just need to decide what pickup to go for. Anyone ?! Seymour Duncan are quite cheap on Thomann at the moment.

I want to put an MM style humbucker on one of my basses but cannot decide which. Should I do it on my Precision or Corvette?! I know the position is not going to be the same as a Stingray unless I do it on the corvette which also has the EQ already there. Does anyone have any experience of a P/MM setup? I think the Corvette will be the right choice but I just want to see what others think.

It's quite deceptive, the gap is huge and eliminates the scale difference.

My Lakland does all I need. Everything else I have is superfluous just to satisfy my lust for variety.
