  1. Raise your action and get flats is my advice.
  2. Dirt settled in gaps between frets. Release tension to close gaps (squeeze dirt from gaps) and whack to remove. Makes sense.
  3. They are friendly. And good at hiding.
  4. I've been going to PMT for about 10 years and think whilst their stock is decent the staff have changed. Went a couple of times with money to spend and walked out as I couldn't find someone to serve me.
  5. Fair Deal for generic and boring Ibanez, Squier and Yamaha basses. PMT for the same plus a few good Fenders, Musicman and Sandberg. GuitarGuitar for all of the above minus Sandberg but in place is Lakland and Sadowsky. Guess which wins for me.
  6. Detune the affected string by a semitone and I bet the deadspot moves up a fret.
  7. My Yamaha RBX775. Present from parents on my 21st birthday. It's since been defretted and refinished and I don't play it a lot, but it's never leaving.
  8. Had my G&L 2.5 years and it's still on the OEM battery. I so use it passive a lot though I suppose.
  9. I'm impressed both with the product and also their balls. I'll definitely be trying one out. I've thought for a long time there was a gap in the market for Stingray tonal rivals
  10. My Lakland 55-60 with brand new EXLs with the SWR SIM on my Zoom B3 is pretty damned closed.
  11. [quote name='Bigwan' timestamp='1379254756' post='2210362'] Tanglewood/Overwater Classic? [/quote] This
  12. [quote name='Graham' timestamp='1379238875' post='2210053'] Swap the 2 position series/parallel switch to a 3-way series/parallel/single coil? [/quote] Yep. Got the wiring diagram, too technical for me but will help the guy who knows his thing.
  13. I'm considering the single coil mod on my L-2000 just for extra versatility. It's here to stay so may as well get the most out of it.
  14. My band has done a few charity gigs recently, great for live practice but it's costing me money to get there. No more freebies I demanded. A week later we have 4 paid gigs lined up.
  15. I'd leave them be. How many classic relics do you see with these holes ? I think it adds to the mojo.
  16. Coolio. I found my old J pickups and they were sealed so assumed all Fenders pickups were. Thanks chaps.

  18. My Dad bought a nice 2nd hand 2005 Mexican Precision not too long ago and I've got it on 'long term loan' so to speak. Been cleaning it up and outs had a few upgrades such as very lush and expensive looking tort pickguard, finger rest and chrome covers. What I wanted to know was is this a standard Mexican P pickup ? Looks a lot better than the J pickups on my old MIM 99 Jazz Images in below post as my phone sucks for editing bbcode.
  19. I've nearly sold my Yamaha RBX775 a few times due to lack of usage and also getting better instruments. It was a present for my 21st (I've just hit 30) and I defretted it a few years ago and whilst I still don't play it a lot (an hour a month or so) I'm glad I still have it.
  20. Try both. Make a decision Ps Jazz for me everytime.
  21. I'm the only one in my band who uses them. One chap is an aspiring session keys player - very talented and is only 18. He's told me he gets tinnitus after a gig, I told him quite bluntly to get some plugs before he's screwed his hearing for life.
  22. Hard for me to comment without bias as I've known Mark since BassDirect was running from an old lockup on a farm, but he's always been very attentive and patient with me. His business has grown exponentially since then and he may not always have the time to provide a personal service everytime . I've spent about £1500 in 5 years but only in a couple of transactions, but I know when I do want to spend big I'll be going to him.
  23. Still amazed I picked up an MC900 for £250 a few years ago. Traded it for a £750 Stingray a few weeks later ! Great bass though.
