1. I used to buy the mag religiously, but in the last few months I don't even bother picking the magazine up to flick through anymore. The format has become stagnant (I don't slap or play 5 string ring any bells ?) and a revamp in content is desperately needed to refresh things. I feel that the content template has just been carried on from the previous editor. The page formatting and design has changed, but i'm unsure if this is positive. Whilst it may be easier for the reviewers to get high end basses in from certain specialist shops, it is terribly skewed towards the high end market. I am sick of reading about a £3000 bass I will never buy, who will ? Maybe 1 person who buys the magazine ? Worth it for the shop/manufacturer that sent the bass for review, but not the magazine. I think a move towards backing up their reviews with online content (video sound samples etc) would be highely beneficial. If it is a case that there isn't enough demand from bassists for this magazine to evolve or infact die out entirely, then it would be a sad loss, but no great surprise.
2. I bought some AKG K77s this week after my AKG K55s had an internal wiring fault and the right hand speaker died. I was happy with them though as they had about 7 years of heavy use, so replaced with a similar model. Here's to the next 7.
3. More details and pics will definitely assist your friend on this instance.
4. I prefer switches too. I find little difference when using switches to blending and prefer the simplicity of flicking a switch.
5. It seems these guitar thieves always fail to steal anything decent.
6. I had 2 (first was returned for a finishing flaw). They are Jazz bass in appearance but that's where it ended. A very clear sounding bass like other Overwaters but I struggled to get a nice warm fat time from it. It sounded very neutral whereas I think for me I need an instrument to have a bit more character in sound. That said, the build and overall quality was very good.
7. I missed last year due to not wanting to travel on my own Anyone passing Brum on the M42 that wants a celebrity onboard give me a shout,
8. Not at the moment. Forum is skint so it won't be happening anytime soon.
9. A bad string can also sound like it's phasing, swap it out.
10. I'm still getting PHP access denied errors in mobile site header but it is functional.
11. FSR means Fender Special Run. It refers to a production batch of instruments ordered by a specific retailer: http://www.fender.com/en-GB/support/articles/fender-special-run-fsr-products
12. Drop Ashdown an email and see what they say: http://www.ashdownmusic.com/tech/tech_service.asp
13. My Yamaha RBX775. Bought by my parents as a 21st birthday present back in 2004. It's been defretted and then refinished 3 times (white, black and then this final refinish is staying !). It's a stained goat leather.
14. As above please.
15. I'd never have the brass neck to ask for something for free. If you love the gear that much then support the company and pay up. If you got signed then use some of the money you'll earn.
16. There's nothing special about it I imagine but there's a few potential buyers out there that are into the hype and must think the luthier has magical powers due to their associations. It'll sell, and and up for sale on a bass forum somewhere a couple of months later.
17. From some of the replies here it looks as if enough people are persuaded by the hype and are into the luthier more than the instrument itself. It'll sell whatever it seems.
18. More content ! Stop drip feeding it I want it all .
19. Haven't they missed the boat on overpriced Fender copies ? Sadowsky have been experts on this for some time. Pointless addition to an already over saturated market.
20. Heretic.
21. How did you get the gig bag ? I was told by GoToGuitars only the US could get them
22. Nice, I was at Bass Direct today and I liked the look of the Stinger but it needs to be a 5 string.
23.
I'm guessing that the London Bass Show has hurt Bass Day somewhat?
This. Last one I went to was 2010 I think and it wasn't bad, but the LBGS in 2011 totally outshone it unfortunately. It's a shame as it wasn't too big and was easy to get to unlike London, but alas it seems Stevie didn't want to compete with a 'big player' and I can't blame him.
24. I look forward to trying one, I expect them to be very expensive to cash in on the perceived demand,
