1. Always liked the look of them but never tried one out, curiosity and a few YouTube vids later and GAS kicked in. Saw the one for sale on Manchester Bass Lounge website and just had to go for it. Drew drive down from Manc with it and we had a good natter too. From looking around the forums a lot of other people have had an NBD today too !
2. Just been playing with it . Bridge pickup humbucking on it's own is Stingray territory. I think the neck pickup is too close to the neck to do a decent Precision impression but works nicely. I think the strings it came with need changing but other than that I'm very happy .
3. i don't think it's that heavy actually - less than I expected anyway. The controls are certainly not intuitive but with so many sounds possible it's only of little inconvenience. What I really can't believe is how cheap they are, this was made in the US - glad the Fender snobs dislike them as it meant a bargain for me .
4. I think the Burgundy are the rarest ones.
5. This landed today in exchange for my Tanglewood Overwater Contemporary J5 thanks to Drew at Manchester Bass Lounge. It has the OHSC along with original owners manual. The smell that emanates from the case is simply amazing - old oak/musty smell but without the stink of old tobacco smoke. We shall spend the next few days getting acquainted .
6. I went through a similar thing. I had a custom Overwater and a 300w rig that never left the house. I thought about trading the bass for 2 instruments and the head/cab for a practice combo (~100w). I decided to trade the Overwater and get 2 cheaper instruments but keep the amp. You never know when an opportunity will popup where you'll want that gear you just sold ! A few weeks after my decision I had a dep gig where I needed my 300w rig. As mentioned - you won't get a decent price for anything at the moment.
7. I may make it a new rule that you can't post about new stuff unless it includes pics of it. And I mean your own pics not googled ones.
8. Good - it saves me PMing you to put a price on .
9. Seen this vid ? Ed knows his stuff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lS0mQDmQzAs
10. It will gain awareness soon, then it's...
11. I had a BB614 a few years ago when they first came out - here's a pic of it in action ! I don't really remember why I sold it but it sounded killer on this gig.
12. The problem is that whatever Yamaha do - they just won't ever be as cool or desirable as Fender & Co. There's not many people out there that don't care what other people think and this unfortunately makes a big part of peoples decision on what to not buy.
13.
or ask a friendly moderator
Not me then.
14. I think i've traded at least 6 instruments on here - some in person and some via post. Trust is something you need to establish with the buyer and you must use your judgement on whether to deal with that person or not (i've turned down trades with people I thought dodgy in the past).
15. Runs like a dream for me on my Galaxy Nexus (using Chrome browser).
16. Bump. I'll even throw in some exclusive signed by me Basschat business cards (Ltd Ed !).
17.
32" to 34.25"
Since the E string is near enough standard scale, what benefits does the novax system offer on a 4 string bass ? I understand the practicality on 5/6 string Dingwalls and have played a few to attest to it working well there.
18. Sunday night bump. Here's a YouTube bid of a 4 string version being played with a pick - sounds quite gritty actually.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhXBE_NZscM&
19.
I wish I had the money for this. Got any other basses for sale?
Sorry no - i'm not a shop
20. I was unsure about poplar initially but I don't think it has any real effect on the sound, i'd say it's quite similar to alder tonally. And of course it could be used for metal - but if you don't like 34" 5 strings then it won't be for you.
21. I like them but I'd never get rid of all my conventional basses afterwards. I like variety.
22. Base all the way. A bass is a fish.
