1. BigRedX - please bear in mind that the forum software is not written by BassChat and we can't really modify it apart from the basic skin colours and a few plugins. If parts of the forum just don't work at all then we can look into it in the background, but if you just don't like the way it does something or have to alter your mouse clicks slightly then it's not something we are going to prioritise.
2. My wife has no interest in my playing what so ever - but accepts my addiction. She's been to one gig and was thoroughly bored - i'm not offended though as I know she doesn't like any 'guitar based' music. But, she's keen for me to practice at night (quietly, with headphones - no slap !). Not sure if that's so I don't bother her in other ways and she can watch TV though .
3. Yeah bassists from all places are welcome but it'd be best if they were signed up here if they intended to come .
4. The problem is when they start to fray and look messy - nothing a lighter can't fix in a few seconds though .
5.
Are Ian and Nige not bringing a bass? Doesn't matter, just the more the merrier!
Nige is cack handed .
6. For anyone curious but not sure what goes on let me explain. We all turn up at the location and bring any gear we want to show off or maybe try through another rig etc. If there's a fair few people we'll probably have some crude name badges on so you can possibly recognise some people from their membername. You don't have to have been on the forum for ages or post a lot to come along ! The event is as much about chatting to other bassists in your area as trying out other gear. As far as cost goes - we're looking at a £5 contribution on attendance at the moment (as long as numbers are over 10) to cover the venue and anything over that will be given to charity .
7.
i'd like to put it in my signature like you've done. But I don't know how to creat the link straight to the thread. How do you do that?
I've put on in for you.
8.
Is it worth messaging other BCers who we know are from the West Midlands, just in case they haven't seen this thread?
I've already asked a couple that I know of who have replied positively .
9. Got plenty of rigs I think but not enough basses ! Surely there's more than 10 people interested in the Midlands ?
10. Only had a couple of PMs about what gear people want to bring ! Don't feel it has to be top end gear - it's about people getting to try a big range of stuff and directly comparing it to things that are cheaper/more expensive and seeing what the real differences are, it's not a gear contest
11. Maybe Nige, need to see how many people we get nearer the time I think, 7 people in a raffle isn't going to be much of an event .
12. Original post hijacked to confirm date and location. Can people please PM me to confirm attendance and what gear they want to bring ? I can then construct a list and try and avoid any pointless duplications or too much/too little of certain things (we don't want EVERYONE bringing their rig for example). Cheers Matt
13. My missus often tells me i've "had that guitar before !" when it's the same colour as a previous one. For example by sunburst G&L L2000 apparently "is the same" as the sunburst Fender Jazz I had a few years ago .
14. To get things moving - I am going to propose a date of Sunday 27th November. Does this suit most people ? If so then we can get it booked. Is that something you can deal with yorick/Ian Savage ? Depending on numbers £5-10 each and any profit goes to a nominated charity. When we've got a date booked we can make a who's coming and bringing what list .
15.
Final comment from Stevie in an email I had from him earlier in the week: "Tickets are selling fast ... I don't think there will be any on the door/on the day tickets left."
The smaller venue and reduced capacity means this is indeed likely.
16. Testing ! Not having the same problem as you on IE8 with WinXp. Whilst we encourage people to let us know about issues they have - for now we'll be focussing on the ones that actually cause problems rather than minor inconveniences.
17.
Lakland 55-02 has 19mm spacing, like you I can't really get on with narrow spacing. Give the Lakland a shot.
This.
18.
So actually got to try one (5 string Jazz) of these in DV, Romford the other day...... cannot say that I was impressed, though it did have a nice neck. It had a humungous action issue and one of the knobs was grinding when you turned it.... someone needs to seriously look at it.
Bad setups on shelves can't really be blamed on the manufacturer, the control might have been a bit loose or maybe the pot had had it. Sounds like the shop don't pay much attention to what they have out.
19. There's always one difficult one isn't there
20. A few years ago in Manchester we had a couple of mini-bashes in the Blueprint studios. Someone brought their band's drummer and it was much fun, hearing a bass played with a drummer is very different to solo noodling. Let us know when you know the availability and prices .
21. Good idea. Had my band's first gig there and the size of the room is suitable for the numbers we're thinking of - plus I imagine they don't book it out much on a Sunday afternoon ?!
22. Bass Direct without a doubt for me. I managed to spend 6 hours there a few months ago, it felt like about 2 ! Mark is endlessly helpful and accommodating - I can't see a reason to go anywhere else. Alas I can only give plus points for Bass Direct, i've no experience of Bass Merchant .
23. It makes sense that ErnieBall had the Sterling range planned for some time as they were unhappy with the product produced by OLP. I imagine it's better business to run the factory they're made in than get a cut of the profit as a license fee. Also, OLPs were not very indicative of what to expect from a US Musicman and perhaps wasn't that complimentary to the brand - the Sterlings are much closer.
