Interesting that sharing a video is click bait and interesting that previous insults were allowed to happen. Look back near the beginning of the thread if you missed it! No entitlement here, I just think that it’s fair enough that I can answer the comments, especially the insulting ones. To be fair though, the positive comments about bass have been great and the video is aimed at those interested. Others don’t have to watch it and can choice whether to get a bee in their bonnet or not about marketing! It is a bass forum after all and we are not saving lives!- 119 replies

“I didn’t do my due diligence” 😂 come on man this is a casual bass guitar forum. Where is all this self-importance coming from? If the post doesn’t interest you then move on and leave it for the ones who are interested. If you are put off by the fact that the video is hosted on my Greg’s Bass Shed YouTube channel, and the free pdf means that you end up on my website (which by way offers a lot of free resources to help bass players learn) then also move on!- 119 replies

Ah, sorry misunderstood your first reply! After putting this bass together, I sold my 50th Anniversary Fender P-Bass (I think I have the anniversary correct here!). The Fender bass went for £800 and it came nowhere near to the sound of this bass. I sold it because I knew I would really play it anymore.- 119 replies

To answer your last point first, the idea of this video isn’t to find out the cheapest way to get a bass. But if you are up for making a video on that, I would watch it. I brew beer, and I’m pretty sure I can buy it cheaper, but I love the process and also enjoy picking the hop profile and malts for the final taste. That said, in regards to my bass, I knew I wanted Bare Knuckle pickups and if I had brought one of the brands you mentions and replaced the stock pickups, it would work out more expensive that way. Essentially you can get a bespoke instrument that doesn’t cost the earth with sentimentally as well, which is very appealing to some people. To start answering your other questions, I am going to hunt for my old neck and post a photo when I find it. You will then realise why I replaced the neck. I’ve give you one guess at what modification a teenager in the early 90’s foolishly thought might have been a good idea! 😂- 119 replies

Cheers, the more marketing type titles do seem to rub some people up the wrong way. But the title is just a title! Had some brilliant feedback on this video, just the odd person getting a bit upset by it. Usually the ones who get a ‘bee in their bonnet’ are the keyboard warriors who tap away showing their distain. But I take them with a pinch of salt! I also think you may be surprised about the mix of my YouTube audience. I teach and coach a few of them and there are all sorts! Some of the more affluent subscribers have a real interest in modifying basses. Anyway, I am not grouping you in with some of the more immature replies, I appreciate the advise and know you are trying to help. I hope you enjoy the video if you do get round to watching it. Cheers.- 119 replies

I remember the wood being pretty awful in the neck pocket and decided against stripping the body. Good choice in the end and I also get to still see all the ‘battle scars’ that have accumulated over the years!- 119 replies

At the time that I put this bass together it was a bit cheaper to get parts in from the US. , but unfortunately everything has got so much more expensive in the last few years.- 119 replies

Yes sentimentality definitely started me off with the idea of upgrading the bass. To then end up with an excellent instrument was just the icing on the cake. I reckon that a lot of bass players on basschat might have an old instrument lying around and I’m very happy if I give a few of those some enthusiasm to make their basses into a nicer instrument. I wasn’t aware of the Encore basses with the natural wood finish. Do you have any knowledge about whether Encore used one main type of wood for their coloured bodies back in the 80’s?- 119 replies

Cool, point taken and great that there is a forum for bass mods as I found out from @LukeFRC Thanks for your reply as it’s good to get a mature discussion rather than some of the earlier immature, slightly trolling comments! Also I am always happy to get involved and help out when one of my posts raises a discussion as what has happened with some of my earlier topics. Good advise though, much appreciated.- 119 replies

Nice bass! Obviously the video wasn’t meant for someone with such experience as you have, but I am sure others don’t have as much experience as you and judging by the response to the video, on YouTube, this is an interesting topic for many.- 119 replies

Good plan, you can pick up a good instrument if you shop carefully! If you happen to have an old bass laying around and you are adventurous, you could end up with a bespoke instrument for similar money with pickups of your choice!- 119 replies
