Hi bass-chatters I’m really interested in hearing who your favourite blues bass player is. Bass players often get overlooked for the more famous guitarists or singers in Blues so it would be great if any one can come up with the lesser known ones as well. I am planning a bass video course with a mixture of history and how to play Blues, and am interested in bass players right back from the upright players of the Chicago scene onwards. Thanks in advanced for your feedback and if there is anything aside from the obvious that might be good in the course then please let me know.

I’ve been experimenting with bass overdrive for a while now and I thought I’d share my demo of the Boss ODB-3 Bass Overdrive Pedal. This Boss pedal is one of the popular choices out there for bass distortion. In my video demo I explain the controls and play through the pedal with different settings. I also have a collection of gear reviews and bass lessons in my Youtube Gear Reviews Playlist that you might also want to check out. Hope it’s useful. https://youtu.be/kJ9uvBpaFAA

How good is your understanding of rhythm? If you want help, read on...... This is the first video lesson in my YouTube Rhythm Series where I tackle note/rest lengths and time signatures. I also give you five rhythmic patterns to work on and drum loops to practice these with. A free PDF worksheet is available in the video description on YouTube. Any questions, then please ask, and please leave a comment if there is anything in particular with rhythm that you would like to see in future videos. https://youtu.be/HVlvc6LH3UA

In this lesson I show you how to develop an accurate alternate picking technique on the bass. This technique is vital if you want to play properly with a plectrum. The five exercises will help you to target this area of your playing and give you the ability to pick faster bass lines. There is a free PDF with the video lesson. Enjoy! https://youtu.be/rGCz7FEuhww

Along with the major scale which I covered a few weeks ago, the minor scale is just as important to know if you want to understand the basics of music theory. Knowledge of these scales will help you understand harmony, construct intervals, learn chord tones and venture into modes. This week I look at the natural minor scale. You can download the free PDF in the video description on YouTube. https://youtu.be/VtGknyYLzlU

Have You Tried The Kala U-Bass? Here is my video review......
greghagger replied to greghagger's topic in Other Instruments
Thanks for sharing. It’s similar for me too, in that I don’t really like the strings. I should really get round to trying some different sets on it. Great instrument though.- 11 replies
