Gentleman Tim & The Contenders will be in Chiswick this Friday and Soho on Saturday night, details below. We'll be playing Chicago Blues and West Coast Swing with me on upright. Our usual guitarist is enjoying a break at the Chicago Blues Festival and so we are reunited with his predecessor, Dino Cooper, for these shows. He's a great soloist & I'm really looking forward to playing with him again. Hello MoJo - I was born & raised near W,ton and always use trips home as an excuse to visit Bass Direct in Warwick. Many of us on here have had similar rig issues resolved by its owner, Mark. He's Dr Tone! I suggest you pay him a visit with your bass & your Peavey & see what he prescribes.

I have played both and currently have a Metro up for sale here (http://basschat.co.uk/topic/207819-sadowsky-metro-rv4-car-fs-reduced-to-l1150-ono/) so full disclosure. I found the NYC to be lighter due to the chambered body and, of course, going the NYC route opens you up to loads of options that are not available on the Metro range. In terms of sound, I thought they were pretty close but, as they all use the same pick-ups and preamp, that's to be expected. For me, the Metro after haggling was good value for money whereas the NYC seemed to be a lot extra for not much more. Putting it another way, it was a lot more dosh for a lighter weight.

I think I would move away from the "local shop" & find somewhere that specialises in double basses. That way, a lot of the issues around strings, soundposts, etc should not be present leaving you with a much easier time. I got my first & current DB's from Peter Tyler near Maidenhead, a wise chap with a house full of DB's. I can't tell where you live but no doubt BC can help locate something similar if PT is too far away. Good luck!

Near me as well. Keep me posted, I can think of a couple of bands who would do it, one originals, one covers.

I'm really not using this wonderful bass as I mostly gig on DB so it's time to find it a new home. I bought this bass new in 2009 from the Bass Gallery in Camden and it's only been gigged about 10 times since. It's a pre-VTC model and comes with the original Sadowsky semi-hard case and paperwork. The bass is in good condition with just a few small marks that are not visible to the audience - there are two on end of the headstock (see photo) and two smaller marks on the top of the top horn and a couple near the jack socket. In my opinion, these are all minor. I would prefer collection, either from Croydon or near my office in London (Westminster/Waterloo). However, I will ship at the buyers expense if there are no takers locally.

Another top notch transaction with Clarky. He must be due a gong by now for services to the BC community!

A Sadowsky or (not yet mentioned) a Mike Lull. In fact, I'm thinking there is or was a Lull 5 in the BC for sale section. It might be worth a search.

I play in a band fronted by a harp player. I'll ask him if he knows of anyone in your area & let you know if he does.

I don't think I've ever had 4 in a row before but here goes..... Wednesday evening, I'm backing my daughter Sian and Lynieve Austin (ex M People and others) for around an hour at an open mic night at the Jolly Farmer in Purley town centre, a 9pm start. It'll be a rare live outing for the fretless Stingray and I've enjoyed renewing my acquaintance with it/her and guitarists John Wallace & Marc Chapman who I've not played with for around 5 years. Thursday, Friday and Saturday are with my usual band, Gentleman Tim & The Contenders. We'll be playing Chicago Blues and West Coast Swing with me on upright at the following venues. Do come and say Hi if you can make any of them. She's a beaut........and I'd go for maple too as, like you, I have an RV4. Looking forward to hearing how she plays.

I remember one my first live music experiences. The band entered in darkness, played the 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 countdown from Thunderbirds & immediately launched into some high energy punky anthem. Brilliant.....but I was 14!

How about The New Mastersounds?

As Dave Swift's job has gone, I would enjoy doing Will Lee's gig on the Letterman show. A wide variety of artists to play with & sensible working hours - sounds perfect to me.
