At least it's cheaper than this one.
JESUS!!! OK Who wants to do a swap for a 4 string Stingray? LOL
2. You know it's been years since I got a cheque from the PRS....they must owe me a few bob by now.
3. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Squier-JV-Series-57-...%3A1|240%3A1318 I refuse to believe that a Squier JV precision could be worth that much. As I've posted a few times today mine cost me £149 in 1984....and it needed refretting after a few months - the original frets seemed very soft- and proper setting up to make it playable....I wonder how much mine might be worth these days?
4. Compressors normally have at least 3 controls being Attack, Threshold, and Output Gain. So I am confused when you say you turn the compression up to X.....compression is a balance between the attack time, the threshold in dB over which compression is applied and the output gain (how much is applied).... ???
5. I have a Squier JV P-bass. The scratchplate is warped ( too much stuffing a plectrum behind it during gigs).... It is tortoiseshell ( I think it's 4 ply) and I was looking at this: http://www.allparts.uk.com/precision-bass-....html?p=product It has the correct number of holes (13) but will they be in exactly the same place? My current plate doesn't have a truss rod notch but this one does.... £46 seems a lot to sink without knowing for definite that it will fit. How could I know?
6.
..but how did you cut new slots? A
Carefully in all honesty. I did it with part of a hacksaw blade through the rust!! and then I put A LOT of pressure on a cross head screwdriver to impress the bit on the screwdriver into the rust!!! The screwdriver did not survive screw removal! Anyone used this place: http://www.allparts.uk.com/Allparts-home-c-276.html The parts I'm looking at are out of stock but available in 7-10 days........do they mean that or is it one of those sites where you place an order and maybe they'll send it out one day eventually or maybe not?
7. What size are the scratchplate screws on Fender basses? I notice Fender don't list them in their parts catalogue but mine need replacing. They've gone rusty!! One of them ( the one by the bridge under the strings) was so rusty I had to cut new slots in it to remove it recently. So what do you guys use to replace these?
8.
According to ebay, it sold for £995

Wow!

link? thats an insane price

Here we go. Shipping tips it over a grand though
That bass is exactly like mine!!! I cannot believe it went for so much!! I bought mine new in '84 for £149 Are you sure that went for a grand? Why?
9. http://www.last.fm/music/Sad+Lovers+and+Giants/+events April 10th (Good Friday) The Blackout Club, Rome, Italy April 12th (Easter Sunday) Club Totem, Vicenza, Italy April 26th Gagarin 205, Athens, Greece It's gonna be very strange. Personally I've not played bass at a gig since 1989!!! I last played any gigs in 1992 (keys)!! Am I going to be nervous or what? These clubs will be full (they're proper large venues) with hardcore 'fans' who know all the lyrics and I'm going to be rubbish!! I know it!! LOL
10. I have a theory on this finger licking fellow....in these days of no smoking venues....was he a smoker keen to top up his nicotine fix mid gig?
11.
if i don't have my fan pointed at my fingers,
If my fan was pointing at my fingers - I'd be a little concerned!!
12. Has anyone fitted one of these: http://www.wizardpickups.co.uk/shop.asp?ca...mp;sub=P%20Bass scroll down to the one at the bottom of the page. I like the 'look' of the pick up but how do they sound? I am looking to change my pickups as the poles on my current pickup have gone rusty - nowt wrong with their sound it's just an aesthetic thing.... Pickups are difficult to choose because you can't really try before you buy.
13. Thinking about a PUP swap on my Squier JV Precision - just for the hell of it. Has anyone tried the Stealth51s yet - I just like the idea of black poles - LOL - but what do they sound like?
14. My Squier JV series precision cost me £149 back in 1984...it still does a blinding job!
15. Squier Precision (JV Series) in Salmon Pink with a Tortoiseshell plate and a Rosewood board. It's hardly porn and hardly even a 'proper' bass but it's done its job over the last 24 years!! - I'll post a pic later maybe
16. Nowt wrong with a Squier IMO. I've been using a Squier '57 JV series precision ( Salmon pink (!!!!) with a tortoiseshell plate and rosewood board ) for 24years now!! Granted it played much better after a refret and renut and setting up properly but I really don't understand the snobbery which people have against the Squiers.
17. After the band reformed I found all my 1/4" jack leads were knackered. I thought it must be the bass and rewired the whole thing but it turned out to be the leads I was using!! So I went and bought a 12 foot Fender gold Bass lead. Yes I thought it was expensive and it came in a huge cardboard 'presentation case' - No wonder it's so damned expensive they must get through some rainforests packaging this mutha....anyway after unpacking it and leaving all the packaging in the shop for them to deal with a couple of things struck me: 1) - this doesn't look or feel like a guitar lead - it's more like the mains flex on my Hotpoint Iron!! It's got a woven fabric sleeve and is really 'chunky'. - VERY COOL IMO 2) - It has a novel velcro strip to hold it all together when looped - good idea this. It has a nice L shaped jack on one end and a really chunky and shiny jack on the other....... Anyway went to the next rehearsal and the rest of the band start asking me if I've changed the pick up or strings or what!!! I never believed changing a lead could make a bass sound so different! It gives a very nice rounded tone and seems to get the lo-mids through better and made my bass sound with more punch. I play mostly with my fingers but sometimes with a plectrum and the lead seems to have added a clarity to both methods of playing which I never thought possible from merely changing the lead!!! Conculsion: it may seem expensive but it will sound better than your average guitar lead!!!

Hello

Hi I've just registered here. I am the bass player with Sad Lovers & Giants http://www.last.fm/m...vers+and+Giants http://www.discogs.c...vers+And+Giants http://www.sadloversandgiants.co.uk/ our own site but it hasn't been updated in a long while.... I have never been a particularly good bass player but am full of enthusiasm. We have recently reformed after many years 'off'. We have some gigs coming up in Italy and Greece and maybe Spain later in the year. My gear is old and knackered. I have a Squier JV Series Precision which has done me proud for well over 20 years!! I currently don't have an amp and find myself using whatever i find in the rehearsal studio atm I used to love my Sessionette 4x10 combo but they are ancient tech these days. I lust after a 4 string Stingray but I don't suppose the wife would ever allow me to spend tha much on a bass despite the fact that we're now getting paid work again!! Anyway enough for now....
