I used flats on a P for years and years, then got turned on to half rounds on a P for several years. Nowadays I'm roundwound on my EBMM

We have several designs of shirt. Every time a new one comes out we get a freebie. I generally wear them for work, normally under an open Levi western shirt or the like. We never wear them on stage. The only 'band' t-shirts we've allowed anyone of us to wear on stage is our drummer, wearing his Motörhead t-shirt - bear in mind we're an 80s indie band.

I'm still of the school of thought that price is irrelevant to whether or not a bass is good for a beginner. Ease of playing is the number one criterion for any bass in my opinion, especially when starting out. That rules out most of the cheaper basses, in my experience. Just because a bass is 'budget' doesn't make it 'better' for a beginner.

Don't normal people 'settle on a genre' before they even pick up a bass? People know the music they like long before they pick up an instrument.

I'd probably suggests he opts for kazoo rather than bass. After all I wouldn't want him stealing my gig, would I?

That's why I asked what qualifies a bass as a 'beginner' bass. I wish I'd started learning to play on a playable bass rather than the POS that i did start on ( a 300lb Kay PBass with skyscraper action and a neck like a baseball bat). The easier to play the 'better' for a beginner. IMHO price should be irrelevant.

What qualifies a bass as a 'beginner' bass? Surely the easier a bass is to play the better....that would, for me, rank my EBMM USA Sterling 4HH at the top of the list and my first bass, a late 70s Kay at the very bottom.

Hardest thing to play on bass

Anything that involves slapping - a technique that I find impossible - but that's not really bass playing, is it? It's just making a racket.- 41 replies

Squier JV P starting very cheap...
Twigman replied to bartelby's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Was it a JV? -
I fancied being in a band and reckoned bass would be the easiest instrument
-
Might that be because you're posting on your phone rather than playing?

Reading that OP is like visiting an alternate reality. Thanks in part to this place I now have 6 basses, 2 amps and 2 cabinets. Damn you all for emptying my wallet!

I have a Mono M80 and a Protec Contego - both great gig bags. The Mono M80 gets the most trips out. - Can't fault it.

My GT86 has a 'stupidly small boot' - my goto rig is a Barefaced Supermidget and a TecAmp Puma900 - significantly more than your £1k budget new but secondhand might work.

The .45 .60 .80 .100 .80 .60 .45 stringing would be more playable....
-
and this - love it
-
The catchiest of catchiest tunes - I've only just discovered this lot
-
Thinking it would be easier to play if it was strung ..45 .60 .80 .100 .80 .60 .45 wouldn't it? I might try it in a 'future project'.
-
Or perhaps make it into an ambi-dextrous bass that can be flipped - why hasn't Mark Phillips tried this yet? If he strung it EADGDAE it could be done .100 .80 .60 . 45 .60 .80 .100

If you don't want it don't bid on it. If you never wanted it why did you bid on it?
