1. what happened to advent calendars with just pictures and zero calories?
2. If I hadn't just ordered a new EBMM I'd be tempted by an olive and RW P....but IME 'narrow tall frets' often feel sharp on the edges...and why bother changing the P pickup? it's already perfect
3.
Unfortunately the sound, bass in particular, was rubbish.
Agreed The acoustics of Wembley are utter pants
4.
he then said oh I'm not the bassist I'm just giving it a go
Shag his mrs and excuse yourself by telling him you're just giving her a go
5.
I needed some new flats anyway
When does one decide one needs new flats? Flats just sound better the older they get. One of my basses has some 20 year old flats on it - not planning on changing them any time soon
6. 60% of the door plus expenses
7.
My sister berated me for the wobbly legs thing at about 2.10 in this, rightly so, I might add: https://m.youtube.co...h?v=XUUn_5qNguo Not really sure what I was thinking...
Classy LOL
8. muscle memory is where it's at
9. I went to see The Cure again last night. Simon Gallup has the poses...he also skips about the stage in fits and starts....i have no idea how he manages to not miss a beat (other than the fact his basslines are simple)...the way he looks like he's trying to push his bass into the floor all the time impresses me. just saying
10.
That's probably not going to happen Blue
Isn't it on youtube? If not, why not?
11. I tend to just walk about but often hide behind the keyboard player....I find that moving too much often puts me off my rhythm, not that I've got much of that to start with. I see many videos of me on stage on youtube and I'm as boring as hell.. Edit: however I've now got whacky hair after a strange visit to the hairdresser and some crazy shades so perhaps I'll come out of my shell a bit?
12. Does this count as a bitsa? I cobbled it together from a load of bits: Warmoth DinkyP body Status Jazz neck Babicz nickel bridge (prototype finish) Gotoh GB640R aluminium nickel plated tuners Fender 'original' P pickup Nickel strap buttons, neck plate, string tree etc Black chrome skull & crossbones knobs Strung with d'Addario half rounds - very old and dead It weighs in around 7lb - I've not been able to weigh it accurately - it hardly registers on the bathroom scales It wasn't cheap
13.
Out comes the vaccum cleaner and a kitchen funnel and they popped out again, like new.
Great tip! Why didn't I think of that? I have a pair of KEF Cresta2 hifi speakers with 'dented' dust caps... I must try this
14. I use a Trex Chamelon for my DHA pedal (and my 9V pedals too) and combine 2 of the 12V outputs with a current doubler It works great Edit added link to current doubler cable https://www.thomann.de/gb/t_rex_dc_current_doubler_50cm.htm
15.
I'm not helping am I?
Not At All No
16. Last week I succumbed to a severe case of GAS.. It started with wanting to utilise my i7 laptop as a go anywhere studio - so I reinstalled all my software on it and in the process upgraded to Sonar platinum from X2. I also purchased a USB audio interface to use with the laptop - the interface in my desktop is a RME PCI card so couldn't be used in the laptop, GAS unsatisfied I went and bought a small Akai 25 key MPK mini to take with the laptop... GAS still not satisfied I decided now was the time to order the bass I've always wanted: a Musciman Sterling 4HH.... So I did. I thought my GAS would be quenched at last. but there's a 6 month wait 6 months!! I remember waiting 13 weeks for my first Barefaced felt like a long time but 6 months ?! I really can't spend any more money right now to satisfy my GAS...so what do I do for 6 months? How do you cope with long waits for gear you've ordered? What's the longest you've waited between order and delivery? How do you manage your GAS during these waits?
17. AFAIK Fender market 4 aftermarket P Bass PUPS: Fender 'Original' vintage which IIRC was fitted to 62RI confusingly Fender 62 Custom Shops Fender 63 vintage Fender 57 vintage - raised A pole pieces
18.
I'm gonna mention Lee Pomeroy.
He's a weirdo - plays left handed on a right hand strung left handed bass,,,, I suppose that's what happens when a lefty learns on a righty,,,, I bet he has trouble moving on his basses given the nut's the wrong way round.
19.
I've had MIJ 62 reissues and Japanese Squiers. The truss rod adjuster on the 62 reissue, is at the body end of the neck. On the Squiers it's at the headstock end.
My Japanese Squier has truss rod adjustment at the heel. I didn't think any Japanese reissues had it at the headstock.
20. Can't stop looking at this thread...i ordered a Sterling USA 4HH black cw matching headstock & RW board yesterday...(at a very good proce considering what's happened to the exchange rate),,,and I was quoted a SIX MONTH wait - perhaps to discourage me from placing the order? It's going to be such a long painful wait........I need a time machine going to feel like the longest 6 months of my life - 3months was bad enough for my 1st barefaced
21. I find glossy necks feel horribly sticky. I have a satin nitro finish on 2 of my wood necks which feel far smoother and never feel sticky. That said lately I've prefered playing my Status neck...that's just painted isn't it? I really don't know.
22. Why don't any of the terminus stations have names?
23.
the slap sound is just fabulous so you're in for a real treat there!
I'm not really that much of a slapper - perhaps this will change my ways?
I guess the six months shows just how busy they are.
I blame all those 6 strings getting in the way of bass production
24. I scratched an itch that I've had for years today. I've always wanted an EBMM bass.... but Stingrays always seemed to have too wide fingerboards and seemed a little bulky...so I went and ordered a Sterling. I managed to get a very obliging retailer (it wouldn't be fair to name them - wouldn't want them inundated with requests for profit-free deals...perhaps I will in due course) to order in at a pre price rise price!! Only downside is a SIX month wait!! So I have coming an EBMM USA Sterling 4HH in black with a rosewood board and matching headstock - sometime mid next year. tick tock tick tock Christmas is cancelled but will come again when the sun comes out....
