1. Just bought muself an SKB iSeries 5014 case. I really don;t think I will ever again worry about the condition of my bass on a flight. I've seen youtube video of an iSeries being driven over by a 4x4 and thrown off a cliff and the wine glasses inside have remained intact. It was not cheap, mind. Peace of mind never is. And the bonus: it's got wheels!!! 2. We're doing it right now to fund our planned US tour in March....first time we've used it...the pledge campaign went live yesterday. http://www.pledgemusic.com/projects/sad-lovers-and-giants
3. How much does a rehearsal room cost? If you look at it as another rehearsal with some other people in the room then £40 for the band for the night doesn't seem like much to lose.
4. http://www.pledgemus...vers-and-giants This is our first US tour ever. We need help to make it happen. Thanks
5. Action looks sky high
6. Warmoth - that's what i did (3 times!!) www.warmoth.com
7. Easyjet: no chance if you've got any normal hand luggage too. Often they force hand luggage into the hold too - happened to me many times. I always check my bass into the hold anyway.
8. 7 is code for jazz bass A is the neck profile (not nut width)
9. Seriously Butt a feeler gauge of the desired height up against the nut on the fingerboard side. File the nut until the file makes contact with the feeler gauge.
10.
File the nut down gradually until it buzzes unredeamably on open strings. Then unfile a couple of stokes.
That made me smile.
11. Happiest with my current setup: Status necked bitsa P TecAmp Puma900 Barefaced S12T(gigs)/Barefaced supermidget (practices) play 80s indie misery dirge postpunk
12. When we're not gigging we write at rehearsal...To be honest we seem to be only meeting up once a month these days. That's why this album is taking so long. It's not a boys' night out. If one of us didn't have such a busy schedule and adtually be in the country a bit more often I'm sure we'd do more.
13. The Fusion bags are too big
14. We've played the sum total of 2 gigs this year!! Both were in Italy back in March.... We've got I think 11 booked for February and March next year though....
15. It fits neither the old type SKB bass safe with the sliding latches nor the new type with the TSA combo lock strap. And that's with the SKB's foam removed. Well that was a waste of money.... So back to the drawing board. recommendations?
16.
- Fits really nicely inside an SKB bass safe
NO! it doesn't I just bought one on the strength of this statement and even with the foam from inside the bass safe removed the bass case won't close. GRRRR!!!!!
17. NO!!! Contego doesn't fit in SKB bass safe
18.
Going through airport security with what looks like a gun case?
My bass got hauled up for this at Gatwick once. I thought it had disappeared as it didn't appear either on the carousel or in the over-sized luggage. Customs had it. They thought it was a firearm.
19. I have a Residents tee shirt from 88 that gets worn regularly for gigs....but atm I don't know where it is.
20.
TBH by the time you've paid out for one of these cases and a Bass Safe you might as well have bought a Hiscox Lite-Flite case which is only slightly heavier than most of the current crop of semi rigid cases and is actually smaller than many of them.
The advantage of the bass safe IMO is that it has wheels which helps enormously on the long walk from car to airport check-in and once at destination the hard shell can be left in the hotel and the bass carried around in the light gig bag. besides I already have it and don't really want to see it wasted
21. Thanks for the offer but too late...I'd already ordered a Protec Contego after seeing a review from late 14 that said it fits in an SKB bass safe....if it doesn't fit I needed a 2nd gig bag anyway....should be with me early next week...it's being Thomanned and is in Koln at the moment...
22. I have a Mono M80 gig bag. I have to fly with it often. I have been using a SKB ATA44 bass safe. But ONLY just. It takes a lot of effort to get the clasps closed on the bass case. Last time I flew one of the clasps had forced itself open despite it being lockwired closed. I've had TSA padlocks on both sides and had them come off and clasps open...I don't know if this is customes not being able to close it after inspection or whether the padlocks have just come off and the clasps open as they are at their operating limit. Does anyone know of a high quality padded gig bag that actually fits into the SKB bass safe without it becoming a wrestling match? Most high quality gig bags seem too long from SKB website bass safe dimensions: Specifications Interior Length 48.50 in 123.19 cm Exterior Length 50.50 in 128.27 cm Exterior Width 20.25 in 51.44 cm Exterior Depth 7.25 in 18.42 cm Instrument Body Length 17.00 in 43.18 cm Instrument Body Depth 6.25 in 15.88 cm Instrument Lower Bout 16.75 in 42.55 cm Instrument Upper Bout 15.50 in 39.37 cm Carton Width 22.00 in 55.88 cm Carton Depth 8.75 in 22.23 cm Shipping Weight 17.80 lb 8.07 kg Product Weight 14.20 lb 6.44 kg
