1.
That really sounds fantastic. Yesterday i was listening to Debussy's Complete Piano Music on cd but to sit in room with someone playing something like that on a Sunday afternoon is a bit mind blowing to me. Brilliant.
it got a bit tedious when he played the same pieces week in and week out, sometimes several times over. I wish I'd stuck at piano but I gave it up as my teacher creeped me out - he was bent as a nine bob note and sat too close if you get my drift...I was a mere boy of 9 or 10 at that time and it made me feel extremely uncomfortable.
2.
surely there must be some Dads out there that were into The Clash, Joy Division etc.
I'm a dad - do I count? My dad is into classical and opera - he has hundreds of classical albums! He would play piano all afternoon on a Sunday - Chopin, Grieg and Debussey mostly
3.
I'm still dubious if 2 x 12" BF Compacts could do similar. Call me old skool!
I can definitely feel the bass from my Super 12T [2x12" in the one box] - and I don't have to crank my GB Shuttle 9.2 past 12 o'clock to get my organs shaking - at 3 o'clock it feels like it could do some permanent damage. I suspect 2 x 12" compacts would feel much the same.
4.
Only place I've seen black anodized pickguards is on WD music and the shipping is the same as the pickguard itself! Any know where to get one in UK? Or anyone that could make one for me? Cheers guys!
Phone WD UK they've offered to get stuff in from their US place for me before - far more reasonable on cost
5. My choice? The tip with both of them. I'll stick with my GB Shuttle 9.2 900W head and Barefaced S12T 2 x 12" for all situations thanks.
6.
I don't think I've ever seen a P bass neck that wasn't maple
never seen a status necked P?
7. Just got me a Bullet Cable 30ft coil. It's a chunky mutha.....will test it out for the first time tomorrow night. The Fender gold cable I normally use would often twist and get in the way, great though it is, it can get very annoying.
8. Never broken one yet in over 30 years. I normally have a spare set of strings with me just in case though.
9. I've never ever even picked up a 5. I doubt I will ever have this dillema.
10.
Damn, I thought this was another Barefaced thread.
What he said^
11.
I'm sure it does. This thread is about banjos.
You said amplify something....
12. Guitarpartsresource.com http://www.guitarpar...ass_saddles.htm They are in US but I have ordered from there. My package arrived inside a week and luckily I paid no VAT or duty but that is a luck of the draw kind of thing.
13. If I can't find one I am going to just stick a std long shaft pot in there and hear how it sounds......bass is in progress - neck is still 2 weeks away....I already have a couple of 3/4" shaft 250k pots. I might try modifying one of them myself if I can't find one already set up as 'no load'. But only if I feel the std pot isn't letting everything through...
14. Aye - so where might I get a long shaft no load 250k pot? Can't find any
15. In fact using stringsdirect search here is a page of all their flatwound 4 string sets http://www.stringsdi...lat-wound-sets/ Actually you need to select the gauge from the drop down on the left.
16. Or fender 45-105 @ £20 http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/p/912479/fender-9050cl-stainless-steel-flatwound-bass-guitar-strings-45-105-long-scale/
17. Of course they are available in std and lighter gauges.... Go for a 40-100 set of Chromes http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/p/913134/daddario-ecb84-4-string-flatwound-chromes-40-100-long-scale-bass-guitar-strings/
18.
We've never had much joy with microphones. They're OK for an acoustic band but if you're trying to amplify something against a drummer and backline they're not much use.
# Really? We mic a sax all the time and it works just fine.
19. Why in that case
What is a "true bypass" pot? I thought all pots went from zero ohms to whatever their rating is (e.g 250k ohms), every pot should be zero ohms when in it's fully "on" position, otherwise it's faulty, ergo all pots are "true bypass"? If you need to check, use a multimeter on ohms between the middle and outer connections, zero ohms means they are connected directly together with no resistance.
Why in that case would this pot http://www.allparts....d-potentiometer be described as a 'No Load Pot' and how might it differ from this pot http://www.allparts....50k-split-shaft ?? It is my understanding that ONLY the 'no load pots' completely bypass the resistor when the wiper is fully wound round.
20.
I thought the use of soft furnishings for torture and punishment was more of a Spanish thing.
i didn't expect that
21.
American English is still English.
No really it isn't.
22. More proof, as if any was needed, that Americans can't speak English.
23. OK can someone explain tone capacitors to me. How does the value of the capacitor uF affect the signal and thus the tone? The voltage rating of the capacitor (100V, 600V etc) - how does that affect the effect of the capacitor? The composition of the capacitor (oil and paper etc) - how does that affect the effect of the capacitor? I am building a passive pbass and although I already have a couple of capacitors that were sold to me as bass tone capacitors I am unsure as to which to use or if I should use another different capacitor. So you boffins can you explain how all the variables relate to the signal so I might make an informed decision. thanks
24. Can anyone find a long shaft (1/2" or 3/4") 250k tone pot that purports to be true bypass in the full on position? I can only find normal shaft (3/8"). I have a CTS 250k long shaft log pot (3/4") but it doesn't claim to be 'true bypass' when the knob is wound to max.....does it make much, if any, difference? I need longer than 3/8" because the surface I am mounting it to is exactly 3/8" thick. thanks
