[/quote]Mic level is a much lower voltage than line level - it's something to do with the sensitivity of passive microphones and the voltage they can generate

What amp are you using? Most mixers will take a 1/4" input at line level. Many DI outs on amps are switchable between mic and line level. XLR inputs on mixing desks are often fixed at mic level - some are switchable.

I have a JV 62 precison. I have owned it from new. It hardly ever gets played anymore - I far prefer my yellow Warmoth P for playability. I really cannot see what all the fuss is about - it was a particularly cheap ( was it £129 or £149 I paid ? I can't remember) budget bass at the time. The story is that the JV series was better built than contemporary US Fenders - that may be so but early 80s Fenders were awful, so that wasn't hard, was it? I really ought to cash in while the going's good but despite its inflated 'value' that won't happen - we've been through too much together.

[/quote] I have made 2 Warmoths and did this both times.....both fitted together with no problems whatsoever, both fretted with no fret buzz and once the necks had been shimmed they both have played beautifully.

I used it for a 4 hour rehearsal last week, Compressor on all the time, chorus on most of the time. One of the 3 charge level lights went out during the 4 hours so I think it'll last well but i'm not powering much at all with it. I suspect it might not last long if you had 5 or 6 pedals all on at once!

[/quote] They vary in weight and feel so much that I'd far prefer to buy the exact instrument that makes me decide I want one of them than leave it to chance on an interweb purchase. That said I have only ever bought one bass from a shop. The others I have had were either given to me or made using components sourced on the web (albeit I did know the exact weight of each body before I bought them).

IMHO get as loud a rig as you can afford and turn it down. - the volume knob works both ways! That way you can play anywhere and never overstress any part of your rig.
