1. Melodyne Editor - can't fault it
 2.
Twigman, I'm going to be tearing off the Cleartone "treated" strings that came on my new fretless. The "treatment" seems to consist of a thin layer of black stuff that came off on my fingers in the first week of playing. I'm thinking of half rounds as a way of reducing string whistle while still keeping a degree of sharpness. I've never used half rounds on a fretless before and wondered what make you used that impressed you so much. Myk
I am using d'Addarrio ENR71 - light gauge half rounds - i am using them on a fretted bass.
 3. I am going the other way. I've used flats for over 20 years. (EB custom & d'Addario Xl Chromes).. Just last month though I was struggling recording a piece that used some chords. The flats sounded messy and mushy...so I tried some half rounds....what a revelation! They feel close to flats (maybe a little rougher) but the notes in the chords were distinct and cut through..... I am a convert to half rounds!

 5.
Where are the pics Twigs? Or is it just my system over here that aint showing them?
Errr I can see them

 9. I was there...eventually. Good to put some faces to screen names.
 10.
I found that cutting the lower frequencies to even out the tone worked best for me. There is always a temptation to boost the fundamental of the sound but boosting around the second and third harmonic can give better results, put simply try boosting around the second to third octave, it is important judge the EQ changers as part of a mix and not in isolation.
I hardly ever (never?) boost - always cut....when I said I focussed on the highs I meant I cut all the lows.....
 11. Why would there be a problem? Posts like this often get me asking 'what are they thinking?'
 12.
If you feel pressured to be the fall guy for paying for thongs, insist on taking all the cut of a gig.
Perhaps the others are a little shy going in to Ann Summers to buy 5 of them ????
 13. I also might bring my Warmoth PJ and a soldering iron....... I would like a second opinion on how the pickups interact and how I might wire them up to be a little more practical...... Is it worth bringing and will there be anyone there who might be able to diagnose my issues and advise me on how to fix it?
 14.
Also the fact that Nevermind sounded all polished and shiny, rather than the terrifying gutteral screech of brilliance that is Bleach, that didn't help. I am no longer 14 so I don't in reality mind about selling out. But a lot of bands do peak, and then go a bit dull. At the moment, I am being disappointed by Laura marling's new album, which is a bit pony. And some others that I was hoping for more from, Vampire Weekend started well a few years back, and are now unsufferably annoying. Also don't like the new Daft Punk stuff much either, might be some weird switch in my head. I didn't love early Muse, and I don't like them now. So I'm fine with that.

I agree totally Nige , But, sometimes the draw of a band is in the individuality of it , you feel more in touch with the spirit and music of the band because they are smaller, more attainable and easier to relate to . If a band turns massive , it might just seem that your emotional connection to what you percieved is exponentially diluted amongst all the new followers. The music is still as good , possibly, but you might just not connect with it in the same way , and music is as much about how it makes you feel as how good it sounds .
Whereas some bands, I believe, seem to get better and better as their popularity grows. The National are one of only 2 bands currently working that I would classify myself as a fan of these days. Their first few albums weren't the greatest (The National / Alligator / Cherry Tree / Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers) then came Boxer. (that said many 'fans' cling to the idea that Alligator is the only album worth listening to.). I thought Boxer was great, Then High Violet, IMO, blew everything that went before it into the weeds and this new album Trouble Will Find Me is a masterpiece, IMO.

 16. Anyone got any reggae stems? I fancy doing something a bit dub.....
 17. I might pop along to this....shame my BFB S12T won't be ready for a couple of weeks..... I shall bring my P-retro equipped Warmoth P with a J neck. perhaps folk might be interested in 1) Warmoth stuff or 2) the P-retro - and want to try it..... If I do come it will mainly to put faces to names. - no performances from me Ha Ha
 18.
For instance, I never have heard, for real, that bar of small tubular bells that one sees sometimes.
A marktree?
 19.
my notes on yours where that there was too much reverb on vocal , undisdiguished bass , not muddy but no real ID of the DB tone ( I think most were like that though) ,and the snare seemed a bit thin , overall good.
I think that is a fair assessment. I didn't really think I'd over verbed the vocal....I did however try to get it it right to the front of the mix. I agree on the lack of DB tone....I found eqing this tricky - I really wanted to get the upright vibe but found the bass difficult to get loud enough in my mix - bizarre Yes I knew as soon as I listened back to the mix after it was uploaded that I had taken too much bottom out of the snare. My snare was heavily processed with a transient shaper to try and put some thwack into it - I felt the original had no life.In the process I obviously concentrated on the highs too much and this thinned the snare. Another problem with the snare I found was that there was a lot of snare rattle (I think) on the sidestick in the intro - I ended up cutting this to a different track and gating and eqing it totally differently. I used sidechained gates on both the fiddle, the banjo, the vocal and a guitar/mandolin submix in an effort to get them all to interact, bringing the dominant melody element to the front of the mix as necessary - I'd like to think that this worked well - it was way easier than automating everything on envelopes. I separated each of these elements with eq cuts and stereo postioning too so that they would sit together if they played simultaneously. I double tracked the BVs and panned them L/R to widen the vocal stage. I really struggled with the overheads on the drums. They had too much hihat in them and the cymbals sounded very thin and weak. Just some notes on what I remember - if anyone wants to know more then I will examine the project file later...
 20.
It is time for you all to pull my mix apart if you like , I really thought I did OK , but it obviously wasnt to taste.
What he said....
 21. got my request for balance transfer......not long now!!!
 22. I had a Triumph Spitfire for years and managed to get a 1x15 cab, a carlsbro head and my bass in it....(the bass was actually in a hard case bungeed to a boot rack ) oh and after a while I took the passenger seat out so the cab was a bit more stable....but i managed, for 9 years like that!!!
 23. I split up - the start of the breakdown seems to have coincided with the reformation of the band which was not operating when we met.....a correllation?
 24. Rapture @ £14.99 is a good buy.....that's a nice synth if you like that sort of thing
