, £565 and whats it worth £300?
I think £300 would very very ambitious....I think you'd be lucky to see £200 tbh yeah sell it in bits

I find a slim jazz neck the most comfortable. In my opinion a fast neck is one without a sticky finish that allows the fretting hand to move around it unencumbered by a sticky finish. I find gloss finishes sticky and slow and my nitro finished Warmoth slim taper jazz neck super fast and very comfortable.

Bass player by choice, or relegated guitarist?
Twigman replied to Tuono's topic in General Discussion
bass by choice - bass holds everything together and is always the instrument I found myself drawn to......have also done a little keys and a lot of programming bass players seem to not have to be front men and generally seem to be oddly eccentric - I like that I do own a guitar but can't play it much - the strings seem awfully sharp and close together - I can just about manage the opening line of stairway to heaven (yikes!! LOL) but it really doesn't seem as much fun as bass I think 'relegated' is the incorrect term...promoted would be more appropriate as the bassist is far more important in a bnad than the guitarist -

We have around 30 or so songs that we rehearse for live from which we pick our set. I 'think' I've forgotten most of them until they start playing. As long as I can remember how to start each song (it helps when someone else starts it) I find that somehow I remember how the song goes while we're playing it. It can be a little scary to find myself doing this in front of a few hundred paying punters but normally it works out. Sometimes though I draw a complete blank - not happened for 3 years or so - and that can be scary! I think practice, practice and more practice is the way to go - it etches the lines indelibily in memory - the other day we palyed a song we'd not played in over 20 years and I got it right first time without preparation. Somethings are just there in the brain and you don't know it.
Out of interest, what was the Epiphone you bought?
It was an Epiphone Sheraton II in black with bound neck and body and abalone/pearl inlays

I have a Hartke HA3500 head which I actually quite like. I also have a Hartke VX1508 (1x15+2x8) which I don't. I'd like to get rid of the VX1508 and replace it with a 2x12" cab of some sort that is driven by the HA3500 Any recommendations?

I bought a Korean Epiphone (new) last month. The quality is superb. The price tag wasn't exactly budget. I have a JV Squier from 83 and many folk rave about them. Are they really all that? Mine is a tad lighter than a US Fender I think but is it really any better? i don't particularly like playing it and now only play my Warmoths that I assembled myself. No it is not for sale.

Trying to get decent bass sound from computer
Twigman replied to simonc61's topic in General Discussion
The danger with using computers as practice amps is that you may begin to compensate for the latency in the system
With a decent interface latency is not an issue. -
Yep I love being the bass player with Sad Lovers & Giants Great people Don't have to play too often Almost always a continental expenses paid weekend away with some mates.

Our punters post vids of gour igs on Youtube. Many we'd quite like taking down, but can't. It sure keeps you focussed on not making (many) mistakes as they end up on youtube for the whole world to see. Be careful how you use youtube

Trying to get decent bass sound from computer
Twigman replied to simonc61's topic in General Discussion
I use a preamp on the input to bring it up to line level input to my RME HDSP9632 soundcard, into Sonar X2 and through IK Multimedia Ampeg SVX plugin amp sim then out through my KRK Rokit6 active monitors. I can get a wonderful bass sound like that. -

Berlin 4th November 2012 What a shambles. Playing last night of a 4 night festival. Turned up at the venue to find it closed down. The previous night one of the bands had thought it a good idea to use a flame thrower on stage. The fire brigade had been called. The promoter was fined €6000. Meanwhile the rental company took back the backline and the drum kit. The security firm (who we are told had pulled knives on punters) demanded extra cash for night 4.... So then a call to the promoter tells us the venue has moved to another 30minutes away. The capacity has fallen from 2000 to 350. We get there to find half a drum kit - the kick drum was missing a leg and there were only 2 cymbal stands - our drummer usually has 5, and a makeshift backline. Somehow the punters find their way there and the place is pretty full. We eventually get on stage at 3am Monday morning and play really badly. I doubt we'll be going back there again.

The 'originals' are only whatever version of the song the band that recorded the song was playing at the time they recorded it. Our songs are constantly in a state of flux and, in reality, there is no such thing as the 'original' - In fact the original original was just a sketched demo (probably on an old 4 track)..... IMHO there is NO SUCH THING as the 'original'.

Played at a place called 'S.I.X. Dogs' in Athens on Saturday. Flew over on Friday and went to a 'meet & greet' on the Friday night which didn't really bode well for the Saturday. Punters turned up at the event hoping to blag free tickets as the €20 entry was beyond their means. Athens really does feel skint, depressed and dangerous right now....in an effort to bolster sales we went on rockFM96.9 Athens for an hour on Saturday afternoon and talked bollocks.... We needn't have worried. Come Saturday night the place was rammmed. They sold every ticket they'd printed and (despite Greek lax attitude to health & safety) were turning punters away. We discovered we'd had a full page article in Athens' equivalent of the Evening Standard (discovered by autographing punters' copies). The gig space sounded fantastic. The walls were soft and non-reflective and the soundman spoke fluent English and was proud of having learned his trade in the UK. We played for over 2 hours with a few minutes break after the first 17 songs... We were called back for one final encore and played a song we had not played live before and had only rehearsed 4 times ( despite it being written nigh on 30 years ago). It was the Greeks' favourite from our catalogue apparently and last time we played in Athens we had promised we would play it if we came back... The whole place went mental and the crowd were bouncing up and down making it look from the stage like a sea of heads being ravaged by a hurricane! It was fantastic fun and such a buzz. Back to reality/normality for a few days then it's off to Berlin next weekend where we are being supported at the Dropdead festival by Lene Lovich (she of lucky number fame)....
It's hard to tell if some people are joking or if they've completly missed that it's not a bass.
I just think some people simply don't have a sense of humour or are German perhaps.
Oh dear! This is why I would never buy online! You get a product that doesn't suit you because you didn't try it out first!
All 6 strings are like this!!!! (strings too close together) - it's the nature of the beast!!!!!!
-
I went and bought a 6 string!!!! I've never really played much 6 string before. I bought it because I have been writing some stuff for our next album and the guitarist is complaining that some of my guitar lines are proving difficult to play. this is probably because they've been written on a keyboard using Orange tree Samples EEG Strawberry... I thought if I started writing on a guitar shaped object then the lines might prove more playable. Thing is the strings are too close together and my fingers too fat!!!! LOL It's an Epiphone Sheraton II in ebony with inlays and binding and gold hardware......
Schoolboy error. So the entire band has to transpose everything because your sax player has learn his instrument incorrectly?
Not difficult but yes you're right.
