Just picked up a secondhand HA3500 witha VX1508 cabinet. When I tried before I bought in a noisy house of stoners it sounds fine. Everything works lovely. Happy, I counted out my wad and paid the man. I got it home and fired it up (as you do with new toys) and instantly noticed how loud the fan is. It sounds like an air conditioning unit. I've left it with the electronics repair room at work who say the fan bearing is fine but they are going to source a new low noise fan and fit some gaskets to it and give the whole thing a good blow through with the compressed air. I was just wondering if it is normal for Hartke heads to sound like airconn units when idle?
Hope your a lefty then also looks like it's only got two strings
I'm sure they could rustle up a right hander.....but the 2 strings is no problem - just give me an E and an A and I can play most of my set -

What was your most embarrassing moment at a gig?
Twigman replied to duncbassgit's topic in General Discussion
I have 3 that I can think of: 1987 in Valencia - my first 'big' gig - there were probably around 2000 people there. I walk onstage at the start of the set. I am soooo nervous. There's a drum riser at the back of the stage and the opening song starts with the hihat so I thought I'd get as close to the hihat as possible to be sure I could hear it so I wouldn't miss my cue...I wasn't looking where I was walking and my foot went into a spot light which was pointing up to the riser to light the drums from below. My foot got stuck and the hihat started...my foot was getting hotter and the shoe was starting to melt and I was waiting for my cue...eventually sometime during the first verse I managed to extricate my by now seriously overheated foot from the spot light casing and luckily I hadn't missed my cue. 1987 in Sneek in Holland playing some local community hall on a stage about 7ft high. There were stacks of those blue plastic chairs at the side of the stage. At one point in the set all the lights went out. It was a total blackout on stage and I walked backwards off the side of the stage, falling into these piles of plastic chairs ...I sort of bounced up again and walked back onto the stage from the top of an untoppled pile. 2009 in Rome - I had a total memory wipe when the guitarist started one of our songs. I had no clue what song he was playing or how the song went although I think I remembered where to come in and vaguely how the first bit went but it soon fell to bits ...I felt like a total lemon as I tried to fumble my way through this song...what makes this worse is that somebody was filming it and posted it on youtube....and no I'm not going to post it here. -
Hi Allparts do one - any good? Their stuff is usually top quality, fit-for-purpose and these are pretty cheap http://www.allparts....ric-p-4072.html Hope this helps Andy
The allparts one is metric with fatter shafts....

Project that I'm looking at is to build a P/J passive using a std P-bass plate with the jack in the plate (no need to drill through the edge into the rout). Of course looking at old style P-bass deluxe wiring (3 x 250k pots) but with only 2 knob holes in plate and top rout big enough for 2 pots I need 2 of those 250k pots on the 1 plate hole. So am looking for a stacked concentric 250k/250k pot. I want to use vintage style chrome knobs so am probably looking for 17/64" 6.75mm outer shaft with 3/16" 4.76mm inner shaft. Anyone know where I can get one? Seen 250k/500k & 500k/500k but NO 250k/250k
Wow...his playing really had a huge influence on me when I started trying out fretless (saw him live in Gent (Belgium) at the Vooruit). Don't know if you will but if you want just tell him that a bass-player from Belgium tried to copy all his lines and learned a lot from him..I owe him. (that fretless on "Rope Bridge", stunning)
Funnily enough we now work for a Belgium based company but we are in the UK! He also played bass on a Joan Armatrading album and his own band which IIRC was called Happyhead. As I say he now plays with Paul youngs c/w band...he normally plays bass still but in that vid he's playing acoustic guitar.
Steve Greetham (Annabel Lamb)..such a great fretless bassplayer
I see Steve almost every day. We work for the same company in our day jobs. he's in a band with Paul Young now called Los pacaminos - a sort of comedy c/w band: In this track he is playing a 6 string acoustic guitar - not a bass:

Complete loss of use of plucking hand - eek!!
Twigman replied to thepurpleblob's topic in General Discussion
I have had a problem with my neck which has resulted in numbness from the elbow to the finger tips of my right hand for the 3rd and 4th finger. It has been like this for over 2 years now. It was caused by a temporarily slipped disc in my neck which damaged the nerve. The quack offered my an operation but warned that it carried a significant risk of quadraplegia - so I passed. I have very little grip strength in my right hand now (it's amazing how much you need yor little finger!!). i cannot hold a plectrum firmly enough to pluck a bass string! I used to play a mix of fingers and pick but have had to relearn the entire catalogue (6 or 7 albums worth) so that it's all played with fingers! As a result there are a couple of tracks which we will never play again...and strumming bass chords is interesting without a plectrum. -

Anyone got experience of bringing basses back from States/Canada?
Twigman replied to Soloshchenko's topic in Bass Guitars
I carry my bass through customs regularly in its full flight case. If I was going to the states and knew I wanted to buy a bass, I'd take my full flight case out empty [or even with a cheap throw away bass off ebay in it] and just stroll through with it full of delicious bass on the way home. Chance of getting caught = 0 IMO -
I can't stand finishes which show the grain at all on the body. I gotta have a solid/metallic/flake finish.....bursts make me puke/and wood is just pony...... I suspect I'm in the minority
Papas Got A Brand New Pigbag - PigBag (!!!)
...but it's the sax/horn line that people recognise there isn't it? I was just trying to think what how the bassline went and all I can hear in my head are those damn horns...or does the bass play along with the horns? do you know I can't remember...must dust off the 12" when I get home

Personally I'd go for a PC over a Mac in a studio any day. An i7 PC running Win7x64 with as much RAM as you can get in there 24 or 48 Gb is possible on current motherboards. Why? 1 PCs can evolve and are easy to upgrade without changing everything. 2 My DAW of choice is PC only - currently Sonar 8.5 soon to be Sonar X1 I currently run Sonar 8.5.3 on a W7x64Pro Q9550 machine with 8Gb RAM with an RME HDSP9632 on my bedroom studio PC. It is as solid as a rock.
