Single cut bass guitars are the Devil's spawn
markdavid replied to thepurpleblob's topic in Bass Guitars
I think a thunderbird can accurately be described as a singlecut. Although the comfort, sound and balance may not be to everyones taste, I do believe anyone who says a thunderbird is ugly clearly has no taste.
True but Thunderbirds don't look like the monstrosities the op showed in his initial post -
Hello!! Will you consider to ship the bass in Italy?? Have a bump from me for this beautiful baby.
Thanks for the bump , unfortunately I dont have a hardcase so it would have to be collection or if close to or in london area can meet up. Price dropped to £270 as I lowered the action last night as I generally keep the action quite high on my basses and I discovered some fret buzz on the upper frets of the D string , bass would likely need a truss rod tweak to get action low
-
Looking to trade my Jazz bass for a Fender Precision or similar type of bass , i bought this bass off of Deaver and it is a nice enough bass but im finding that the Jazz bass sound isn't really doing it for me (have always been more of a P bass kind of person) , the pots on the bass have been changed to US fender pots and the pickups have been changed to US pickups which i bought from another tber as the original pickups were giving me problems , otherwise bass is completely stock. Im after swapping for a Fender Precision or an Ibanez ATK300 bass, will consider other basses as well so dont be afraid to ask. Im based in the Croydon area (london) btw ashtray bridge cover included EDIT: Price dropped to £270 as I lowered the action last night as I generally keep the action quite high on my basses and I discovered some fret buzz on the upper frets of the D string , bass would likely need a truss rod tweak to get action low
Rockbass's are not cheap in comparison to Squier and OLP. They are more middle of the road than beginner.
that was exactly what I was getting at regarding the pricing of these basses
-
Hi all , Was hoping somebody could help me with this , ive always quite liked the look of the Warwick Rockbass range , however i've never really understood where they fit in to the bass market. My understanding is that Rockbass is to Warwick what Squier is to Fender , however looking at the Rockbass basses some of the models ive seen have been in the £400 region , thats close to MIM Fender territory pricewise and you would not expect to see a Squier for that much, someone explain this to me please, thanks
My first vote goes for, 'cutie honey' by Kumi Koda, the song's right cack, but the video is worth a watch... only in a 'hot Japanese girl waving her bits around' kind of way, but still. Oh yeah, great bassline too innit.
call me al and 50 ways to leave your lover by paul simon are both crap songs with good basslines , I still cringe every time I hear the lyrics to 50 ways to leave your lover
Well I just found out that they have no more in stock!! What's the Jazz V Deluxe like?
There meant to be very nice basses from what I hear and they are absolutely stunning looking as well , if I had the cash and was after a 5 string bass I would have no reservations about buying one
Add an 18" on top of that and you get..."The Landslide" All the low end mud you could want freely moving around...Mmmm so subby...You gotta do it!
Imagine that with flatwounds , it would sound like an earthquake
If you're thinking of getting one beware the new model, the Epiphone T-Bird Pro, should surface next month.
Yeah , they look nice , its a shame Epiphone dont seem to be bringing out a Pro model of the EB3 or the Les Paul bass , would be nice to have a few more options, and an EB3 with a 2 band active eq , man that would shake some walls with the bass eq boosted
Tried them again for the first time in years, and still dissapointed with them, they seem to sound great for all of ten minutes then turn dead in no time; I usually use rotosounds and never had problems with them, once had a set of Optimas on my status and they were the dogs bollocks; however are so expensive it makes you want to cry. Just wondering if its just me who kills EB strings, or if people have the same problem...also i want to know if people like them and if they dont experience the same problems as myself. Cheers Chris
I seem to have this problem with all roundwounds tbh , but yes ernie balls do go dead quickly , being nickel and therefore less bright than stainless steel does not seem to help either

Hi All , Simple question , ive heard somewhere that the Epiphone Thunderbird is 34.5" scale , ive also heard elsewhere that its 34" scale , Which is correct ?
This all sounds a bit odd to me. ProSteels are listed as having a lower tension than D'Addario XL nickels at the same gauge -- and only slightly, to the extent that you might well not notice, and you might not have to adjust your neck relief or action. Behold (for example) the 45-105 long scale XLs compared to the 45-105 long scale ProSteels. I don't know how Ernie Ball's tensions compare to XLs, but I wouldn't have thought they would be so different that switching to ProSteels would mean a huge jump up in tension. Might it be the case that people are actually finding the ProSteels stiffer (i.e. less flexible, so more difficult to pluck laterally) than nickel rounds? That seems more feasible, and it explains Delberthot's statement that he didn't have to adjust the neck. Two strings at exactly the same tension (tension being measured along the length of the string) could feel completely different to pluck, depending on the construction of the string -- they'll move differently. This is all just falling out of the top of my head, so it's not very well put, but it's something I've been wondering about for a while.
Ive just looked at the D'addario tension chart today and it would appear to confirm what BottomEndian suspected about the Prosteels being stiff rather than high tension , the heavy gauge set tuned DGCF has the following tension D - 35.2 G - 43.5 C - 49.1 F - 53.2 which does not seem to be particularly high tension The next set down (105-50) when tuned DGCF would have a D string tension of 29.6 which would probably feel like playing a wet noodle , so it would seem that the strings are stiff rather than high tension

Hi All , didn't see a thread about this so I started one. Ive considered buying basses online a few times however the thing that has always stopped me is the thought of receiving a bass with a neck like a crossbow. What online stores have people used that they have had good customer service experiences with when something went wrong.
So i'm playing one of the Japanese only ones I think, with the curved top (which means i can't put a Badass on it without surgery) The problems I've been having all the while with this bass are that the bottom string gets really 'warbley' for want of a better word. It's pretty alright open all the way up to fret 5 or 6 then it just starts to sound pretty nasty. This isn't helped at all by the fact i tune down to DAdG, but I unfortunately need those two notes for my band. I replaced the pickups with wizrd PJs and this improved the tone quite a bit, even on the bottom string, but the more i play it, the less happy with it I get (Andy from Wizrd pickups did a great job though. The bass has been properly set up and all that stuff, but it just ain't giving me what I want. As of late i've been thinking about upgrading my head to something real nice like an orange Ad200, but I'm worried incase I experience the same bottom string problems. Any advice? time for a new bass?
What gauge string do you have for the low D string , maybe going a gauge heavier would help, worth a try , I tune DGCF with power slinkies , the D is a .110 gauge and it sounds good but it would definately sound better with a .115

Ive said it before in this thread, but ... Flatwounds are your friend for this kind of tone
I suggested this in the Geddy Lee Isolated Thread, so I'm running with the idea... I'll list them in bands Alphabetically, and update this first post when more tracks appear. I think it'd be best to only have the basslines being played by the original artists, either live, or the studio versions. Anyway, here we go. Unadulterated Bass Filth.
I bought prosteels for a Rickenbacker once. I got my usual 45 gauge but they were mental high tension.
Glad its not just me who's noticed it. I never struggled with the tension of a set of roundwounds until I tried Prosteels, they lasted all of 2 hours before I took them off my bass and put the power slinkies back on
-
Having grown a bit tired of the lack of brightness from the Power slinkies on my bass I decided to get a pack of heavy gauge Daddario Prosteels (I tune 1 step down) , after about an hour of playing these strings I gotta say "my fingers are killing me" , the tension on these strings is brutal , ive taken them off and put my power slinkies back on. I love the tone but the tension is way too high so I think next time I change strings ill get Prosteels but in the next gauge down. Anyhow rant over now
