1. Anybody know what the difference is between the 84's and the Hammers ?
2. Looking for a set of replacement pickups for my jazz , have seen schaller pickups going for quite cheap but there is very little information on them it seems , has anybody used schaller pickups? are they any good?
3. oh well I was thinking of swapping out the pickups eventually anyway , guess i'll do that the end of this month, now what pickups to get? Im after ballsy and aggressive , perhaps Wizard Hammers
4.
I'm sure a fellow BC member can sort this out for you? I would do it myself but you're a bit far from Cambridge.
Thanks , its the thought that counts. Anybody in the croydon area feels like doing some soldering , let me know , i cant pay you for the help but I make a mean cup of tea
5. Just thought I would share this horror story with you all . Just recently bought a used bass , anyhow I thought I would raise the pickups as they were sitting rather low and a little too far away from the strings , so I thought I would stick some more foam padding underneath the pickups to raise them a bit. Anyhow took the strings off loosened the pickup screws , did not realise how short the pickup wires were (very little flex at all) , next thing one of the wires has snapped away from the solder point Now I do very little in the way of diy so I have a couple of screwdrivers and thats pretty much it , stuck with no soldering iron (and no output from my pickups , and no money to take bass to a repair person) I have come up with an idea (a sh*t one none the less) i stuck a 5 pence piece inside the pickup cavity to bridge the gap between the solder point and the wire and put the pickup back inside the bass. It does the job for now (both pickups seem to be working fine) but I think i'll definately take the bass to a tech once I get paid , I really cant believe what a cowboy solution this is
6. Anybody used these yet ? Id be interested to try these but at 30 quid a time im a bit reluctant http://www.gjsguitars.com/rotosound-nexus-...uitar-rotosound
7. Hi there , anybody know what the difference is between the 84's and the Hammers? , they both seem to be aimed towards the same kind of purposes
8. Wow , love the look of the black finish , sexy
9. Thanks for the replies , I am going to go for a 100w combo to be on the safe side as all the 100w combos ive tried have had plenty of bass response and the price difference between 60 and 100w is not that much at all
10.
Yes, like night and day, totally worth it. Since you posted the same question in two forums it seems you want to go with whichever gives you the answer you like best. The least I could do is give you two answers to choose from.
No need to be sarky , its not my intention to go with "whichever gives you the answer you like best" , just trying to gather information so that I can make the best decision for my needs whether that means going with a more powerful combo or going for a lower power combo , regardless I certainly dont need to justify this to you
11. Need to get a small Bass combo amp , not after anything loud as this will literally be used as an amp to use at home to practice and and my other much bigger amp (300W) will be used for gigs , am interested in getting the Fender Rumble 60. Basically to cut a long story short i have a 25 watt amp at home and I find that although there is bass and treble controls on the amp the low wattage on the amp means that the amp has basically one tone (tin can) , if I upgraded to a 60W amp for practice would I get any increase in low end. I have tried a 100 watt Fender combo and it sounded good but I think for practice 100watts would possibly be overkill BTW , I understand that good tone is achieved by having a good quality amp rather than a powerful one but obviously the wattage will play some role in providing the low end on a bass amp , therefore presumably a more powerful amp will have more low end , also i will reiterate that this will be used for practice so I would like more low end than my current practice amp but I dont need wall shaking lows
12. A Jazz bass , either MIJ , Highway 1 or MIA are great for slap , both volumes up full , tone up full
13. I Need to get a couple of my basses set up , there aren't many music shops in my area and so ive been considering Feline guitars in Croydon to do my setup (the repair person being a luthier puts my mind at ease a little) , has anybody used them for a setup before , how were the prices and was the setup done well ?
14.
As a matter of interest, does anyone know who makes Elites?
I believe they're made by GHS
15.
Standing In The Shadows Of Love by the 4 Tops? Sounds like it's played with a pick so probably not Mr. Jameson.
I could be wrong but im fairly sure it is Jamerson
16. Ive heard of people doing this to bring strings back to life , what type of Alchohol is used to do this (i take it its not methylated spirits) and how do you do this?
17. BUMP , this is a great bass at a great price , these are very comfy to play due to the light weight and small body and due to the medium scale the neck on these are very fast , sound nice and punchy and they are loverly looking basses as well
18.
http://www.bas-extravaganza.nl/?page=bassen&BassenID=18
What a heap of sh*t
19. Have seen one of these , are they any good? How do they sound? Seems the 3 pickups would give a good range of sound
20.
Mark, we have a shop near where I live that has contacts all round the world. They have been established for years, and can get anything. Also, they get things at stupidly cheap prices somehow. They deliver as well. Do you want me to get their number so you can guve them a ring, or are you set?
Please , I would appreciate that very much
21.
Ah ha, your original post refers no doubt to the misnomer that is Rockbottom and Martin Phelps (they do have a rather nice Squier Vintage Vibe J Bass at the moment). Yes we are poorly served in the Croydon area, but as previous posters have said Andertons and GAK aren't so far away, in fact you could be in Brighton as quick as being in Denmark Street by train. Don't forget The Bass Gallery in Camden.
Yes , the most ironic thing about Rockbottom is the name (they once tried to charge me 40 quid for a set of chromes and 50 quid for a soft case) Thanks for the heads up with the Vintage vibe , I did not see that last time I visited , I will have to go back and have another look
22.
MD..there is a great shop in Kent that not many people know..its called The American Guitar Centre, and strangely enough..BassWorld... They stock Epiphone, Fender, Squire, and even makes such as Lakland, Overwater, Alembic, Yamaha..And they are cheap.. They will prob have, or could get what you want.. Google it... Hope this helps..
Thanks for the suggestion , I am currently googling it
23.
Yup, take a day trip to Brighton. GAK's great. Cheers Mark
I live quite a distance from brighton (croydon area) , is there enough at GAK that it would be worth my taking a day trip
