1. Wow, thats a nice bass , theres something about the simplicity of a P Bass that is awesome , just the way that you can just plug in a P Bass and just get a good sound with a minimum of fuss
2.
That'll be the Thomastik Infeld Jazz bass Flatwound set. Made like Orchestral Double bass strings. Available from stringbusters, stringsdirect etc. They are quite bright for flatties when new, but they do settle down and sound better with age. They are very light guage so you'd probably need to adjust the truss rod & possibly change the nut. I have TI Jazz Flats on Two fretted Precisions, a fretless precision, a highway 1 jazz, an epi thunderbird, a Dean Pace Upright and a peavey millenium five string. My oldest set is about four years old & still going strong. I'm not sure whether they'd actually be the magic bullet in getting the sound you're after. What bass would you be putting them on?
They would be going on my squier p bass special with quarter pounders , sounds like the Thomastiks may not be for me as I am not after any kind of brightness , Its all about warm sounds for me
3.
Evening guys and girls Ive just bought myself a Epiphone Thunderbird (body, neck, head, electronics etc.) However this bass has no pickups or bridge It looks like this: Anyway I thought I should ask some people who know, what type of bridge and pickups would fit/should I get? Just so you know, my username stands for Drummer Attempting Bass, so please don't be too technical Thanks in advance (Also if this is in the wrong place I do apologise, it looked the most suitable for my question but I could have been wrong)
Hi , this bridge should be what you are looking for http://www.allparts.uk.com/catalogue/produ...oducts_id=10325 and perhaps something like these for the pickups http://www.allparts.uk.com/catalogue/produ...oducts_id=11615 and http://www.allparts.uk.com/catalogue/produ...oducts_id=11616 although I am not sure about the pick ups (you may need some routing etc done), the bridge should fit straight on with no problems. Anyways it should not be to difficult to find pickups for the bass , I hope it works out ok for you
4. Sorry if this seems like a dumb question but , I have heard about some bass players rubbing vaseline on there new strings to remove some of that trebly new string sound , I want to try this when I change my strings next , but I was wondering , will this do any harm to my bass especially the wood on the neck and fingerboard , also how much will this kill off the new string sound, I mainly use flatwounds
5. Hi all , Was wondering if anybody could help , I have seymour duncans on my bass and am finding the tone although good and punchy to be a little mid shy , what would make the most difference to the mids on this pup , boosting high mids or low mids. Also does anybody have any suggested eq settings , I am used to a bit more honk in my sound, any suggestions appreciated
6.
If its any concelation, I constantly get told by BT/Cable that I cant have broadband because my street isnt "broadband enabled" yet - my neighbour (just round the corner as I live in a corner house) has an 8mb link via BT! Ive done all the searching online and postcode checks you like, and they all say we should be able to get it via the lines we have, and we are only 2 miles from our exchange. So im stuck with crappy 1MB wireless broadband that drops out at random and requires a reboot of the router to sort. Great.
I wouldn't worry too much, I have BT and its sloooowwww even though its 8mb its almost like the days when i had a 28k modem
7. Hi all, Have been thinking about taking my bass for a setup as the action on the bass is quite high at the moment , how much do you think it will cost to get my bass setup

11. I would be interested in the Aguilar Pre amp but I dont get paid for a couple of weeks but thanks for the suggestion I will have to look into external pre amps
12. Am thinking of adding an active pre amp to my bass to fatten the sound a little, possibly something like this, http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/shop/fl...roduct_id/17272 Ive never added a pre amp to a bass before , will i be able to have this fitted to my bass with out purchasing any other parts? how much do you think it will cost to get a music shop to fit it? The bass I want to add it to is my squier p bass special with the passive seymour duncan quarter pounders
13. am using daddario chrome flats and rotosound tru bass on my basses , tru bass are awesome really give you a sound that stands out
14. Hi all, Have tried a folded jay cloth under the strings , sounds awesome , works really well. I think i may have to invest in a more permanent solution like a bass mute as I think I may have found my sound
15. I would hate to see someone try this with heavy gauge strings or the rotosound rs77 monel flats , ouch
16. Check out this animal, is he for real , check out the way he is shaking that bass , its funny but disturbing at the same time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIHTMFFKB2c

18. Hi all , Have been getting a real craving for something a bit vintage, I love the look of the Danelectro basses but nowhere seems to stock them. Anybody know of where these can be aquired and what sort of price range thease are likely to go for?
19.
I was going to suggest tru bass then i saw your sig..hmm i would post in the wanted for an old set or perhaps rub some soft wax on a set, a foam mute may help get the sound your after but of course it will also kill sustain
Yeah , I love the Tru Bass strings but am finding that I have to order them in as no one seems to stock them
20. Flying V basses , they look gorgeous but try and sit down to practice with one, its infuriating
21. I am after a really dark sounding set of flatwounds with little to no treble response for a project I am working on, any suggestions?
22. Hi, I have aquired real bad GAS for a violin bass. Girlfriend is less than pleased , specially since i recently had my squier fitted with seymour duncans, however nothing quite sounds like a hollow body bass with flats on , so I am on the hunt for a low cost (my finances are pathetic) hollow body violin bass but dont know where to aquire one. Any suggestions , links etc appreciated
23. Just a few i thought i should mention , i dont know the names of all these players Paul McCartney (his basslines are like songs within songs, he has a tone to die for) Duran Durans Bassplayer (listen to rio you'll understand) the Bassplayer from the Smiths The Bassplayer from the Killers Sting (specifically the stuff he did with the Police) The Bassplayer from the Eagles (simple but effective and an awesome tone too)
24. well despite becoming quite attached to my bass since doing some upgrades I would definately swap you my bass for your hofner anyday
