so I went down a rabbit hole. Got my multimeter out and tested the Bart’s and the original pickups. barts are 8.67k (ceramic) and originals are 9.39k(alnico). My squirer pbass is 7.7k (ceramic but not in the league of Bart’s at all) when I got my bass from Bassbros I took it to a local Luthier to look at. He worked or learnt at Monty’s guitars. He told me don’t change the original pickups as they are great sounding. I was after the paul jackson sound so I did lol.

The Bart’s probably did actually as I didn’t cycle or train as much. Never thought of that lol. You are right the omns is only 9.2k (I’ll check what mine is when I get a chance) but how the pickup reacts with the basses wood combo is more important. With chromes it’s extremely dynamic in touch and also where I pluck the string. My original pickups read around 7k. I’m playing through a genzler Magellan 350 with 10” array cab. Style is funk, rnb, fusion jazz and melodic soloing stuff. This bass + Bart’s loves flats and tape wounds. Melodic chord phrasing is dream like. My goal was to get a paul Jackson tone so I feel the 8s will help. I also possibly should get a bass that suits chord melodic soloing playing, seems like that is the direction I’m going. It could also be that the nickel strings I use aren’t complimenting. What I do know is that I like the tone of Bart pickups. Tone all the way off on the p bass isn’t muddy at all. Articulate, creamy highs even when you Dig in. Smooth smooth tone. I do think Bart 8cbp suit rounds.

Hey, I totally forgot about this post. Knee is better now rehab prevented surgery. It was more to do with my adductor. On bart 8CBP. I’m surprised I’ve had them for nearly 2 years. My bass is Asian ash with maple fretboard. The pickups are great l, especially with chrome flats. Smooth, creamy tone. The only way to tame the output and bass is flats. I really like nickel rounds so I’m thinking of letting these go and get the 8s or a different pickup. You thinking of trying Bart’s?

Hey peeps, Looking to pick up a phaser. Wondered if anyone has used both and could compare. Rather big price difference. I first heard Derrick hodge use a phaser (mxr phase 90 variant) which caught my attention. I then heard Jonathan Maron demo the Aguilar grape phaser and was wondering if it was just his amazing playing with the pedal or the pedal itself. cheers

I couldn’t fine any on it also. I’ll keep an eye out. I did like the tone out of it I must say.

I really like the sound of the new octave pedal. The octave up sounds much less quacky compared to the Ehx micro pog. I like how both can be mixed with sub low and dry. I just prefer the sound of the Aguilar. Grape phaser compared to mxr phase 90 sounds more silky smooth

Howie this is the first time seeing the p bass 🫨😍. Begrudgingly I understand why you wanted to keep the 80’s Bart’s for this bass. How different is the wenge fretboard in tone to the common fretboards? That Warwick must have a really meaty tone with those double jazz pickups.

Ian Martin Allison is a session player. great personality. He is also a part of scott's bass lessons. The company probably thought it was a good idea to collab with Ian as his done things with mike lull, La Bella and dunlop. His signature Mike Lull is rather cool. https://ianmartinallison.com/

Watching ian talk about this pedal and the unique boost cut mechanic, I was intrigued. Then I saw the price. Nope 🙂↔️ 🙂↔️

I do like the channel. I do wonder with review channels how honest they really are. Not stating they are I just think they go through ALOT of things.

They speak on weight here. I tried a sr600 ash body last week at wunjos and the neck blew me away. One of the most comfortable necks I’ve ever played. Chords felt so smooth to do.
-
cheers for heads up. I did more research and the radius of the neck is 12”. I’ve only ever played 7.25 and 9.5

I went to wunjo guitars on Denmark street a couple days ago and tried so many basses. I had never played a Ibanez before so gave the sr600 a go. 🫨 wow it’s probably the most comfortable neck I’ve ever played, especially for chords and melodic phasing. Sound was cool also. I played a very very unique gretsch 63 bass that just was so different, that was slightly more appealing. Made me Play completely different, more long root note style. I’ve only owned fender style p basses and went to look for something which would compliment my chord, melodic playing. Extremely impressed. I’ll be looking on the used market for a Ibanez. Now I get why the fretted Ibanez GWB is rare to find used lol

Interesting. I wonder if the oil finish rather than paint plays a role. Started on a p bass and have just stuck with them. Now when I improvise what comes out is more chordal melodic phases. Maybe now a slimmer neck and a warm sounding bridge pick-up is needed.

Cheers for the heads up bud. I did see the sadowsky strings. They have silver, blue and black label. I’ll check the Warwick also.
