New Bass Day - a 2021 Tokai Made in Japan Hard Puncher.
soulstar89 replied to Jackopie1's topic in Bass Guitars
that's great. would you say the sound is very different to fender p basses in a gig, practice settings? yeah rose morris is a great shop. i don't know why but everytime i go to morris i play well lol. I also went to guitar guitar in camden and tried the new fender original vintage ii 60's p bass, the vintera 50's p bass (i really like this) and some custom shop p bass. the tokai just played better like it was already set up. where did try the Japanese pb62's? its tricky to find in london/uk. I had zero knowledge myself. i did a google search and its to do with the strength of the magnet. apparently alnico 2 have a warmer sound with slightly less output compared to alnico 5. maybe tokai over wind the pickups and to compensate. who knows. they are definitely more punchy than fender pick ups. I would love to try a maple neck hardpuncher. I have been listening to paul jackson on herbie handcock's the flood live album in japan. My lord its amazing. gutted i found it so late -
he had a mij fender p bass with us pick ups and electronics. i took to long to decide and missed it. so gutted. they seem like really cool and helpful people. i asked whether the electronics was us and they sent me a load of pictures as well as info.

New Bass Day - a 2021 Tokai Made in Japan Hard Puncher.

funny i saw this. Just before xmas i went into central london and took a trip to denmark street. First popped in wunjo's and tried some new fender P basses (pro ii,50's vintera). i then went into rose morris a couple doors down. They had the exact Pbass you bought in store. I was blown away how well if felt and played compared to the new fenders. I decided i wanted to head to the bass gallery and compare to a JV 1983 pb62 fender MIJ. i also tried some fender 70's p basses and the tokai was the the most comfortable to play and just felt right. a 70's P with a ash body rosewood neck was second. whats interesting is the pick ups are alnico 2 rather than alnico 5. I probably preferred the sound of the ash body ever so slightly but my lord it was amazing to play. Felt setup where the others felt stiff -
at the back... na mate. you just missed me lapping you lol

just went on his youtube page and his been using it for near a year. Fair. they should have added a sock with the bass as we never see the heastock with mono lol
-
im a massive fan of mononeon. not sure about the bass. i wonder if he will actually use it.

i spent three hours in the camden guitar guitar today playing the p bass vintage II, the cs 63 pbass and a cs Pbass with jazz neck. I found the vintage II pick ups to not have as much output than the custom shop hand wound. At first the neck and the frets made the vintage II not the greatest to play, not bad at all just sticky and a tad awkward until i warmed up. compared to the 63,65 originals and mij pb-62 I've tried before it didn't feel or sound similar. They will be getting in more colours and the jazz 66 vintage II. i will try it again then. -
New American Vintage 1966 Jazz basses? Anyone getting one?
soulstar89 replied to Cairobill's topic in Bass Guitars
i went to guitar guitar today in camden. they said they will getting some in in the coming weeks. i tried the fender vintage II p bass 60's. was cool -
thanks for this. i struggle with gloss necks. will give this a try

overwhelmed by the responses. I decided to head to camden and kill two birds with one stone. try some basses and amps. the advise of not overloading my mp has helped ALOT. It funny how i went to guitarguitar and the bass gallery and there wasnt much amp choices. I shall keep searching to try as many as possible. At the moment i won't be recording or gigging for now. I need to better my craft. the way the bass sounds inspires me to keep wanting to pick up the bass and explore. i just find this this amp meh. I play acoustically alot as i like the sound of the bass more than the amp
-
what power wattage would be suitable to look at?
-
thanks for the responses. I had a play and when i had both volumes on amp and bass at 9 o'clock it helped but its so so quiet. looking for a new amp is overwhelming. not sure whether to get a combo, amp and speaker or a audio interface which i can hook up to my computer. I think that question is for another thread. appreciate the help.

ok cheers ill try it now.

Hi guys, hope everyone is well. I have extremely little knowledge on amps. over 10 years ago i got a stagg 20 ba bass amp combo with my p bass. never really used both my and and until the first lockdown. IF all the turning dials (volume, treble, mids, bass) are at 12 o'clock the bass becomes extremely distorted on the E string. If i turn the bass dial to 9 o'clock the distortion goes. i thought the speaker had gone so plugged in some headphones the same thing happened. All the videos ive watched state that 12 o'clock is normal not adding not subtracting. is this normal? I fully know how crap this amp is before people say. lol

i second the customer service. they had a fender 89 pb-62 MIJ reissue which i was interested in. Extremely helpful. sadly my indecisiveness lost me the bass. I have now bookmarked the site so when they get a 80's pb-62 with us pick up and electronics ill purchase.

soulstar89 replied to soulstar89's topic in Bass Guitars
Thanks for the detailed Response. It’s is extremely helpful for me and I’m sure it will be helpful for people in the future. I will reach out to moollon and possibly make a day trip to bass direct to try the mvp out. I won’t lie. I would want a sun burst which they don’t stock lol. -

Thanks so much for the run down. When I tried the 75 P bass at the bass gallery the neck was gloss. Didn’t like it one bit. A factor could be also that my wrist didn’t take to the neck at all. Did the moollon have the same feel as your 71 neck in terms of gloss feel on neck? When you say he wore down quickly did it reach the feel of say fenders satin neck? Having different strings definitely would make it hard to compare. Would you the sound similar to pre cbs fenders? -

oh amazing. look forward to the response. Enjoy the gig -
Hey, hope everyone is enjoying the sunny english weather (it won't last lol). I have Looked on the net for a comparison of the moollon P-classic and the modern vintage MVP4-62 but no luck. Has anyone on here got both or have played both? I wondered how they differ in sound and feel. Would be interesting to get a place of reference for people interested. The moollon has a 30-36 month awaiting list which is CRAZY looool cheers 👍
