@EddieG - honestly mate, I wish you all the best, I hope whatever plan you have comes to fruition and ends up being the downfall of Jon in as many ways as possible. He's a leech and doesn't deserve to be a human. If one believes in reincarnation, I'd like to think he'll come back as a snail that someone accidentally steps on, but that lives on - almost bifurcated - for many days before succumbing to said bifurcation. You - well, I hope you get what you're owed and that your next venture into custom basses is more successful. Alan at ACG is an excellent man to deal with - superb communication and basses that make Jon's builds look like trash (not hard).

From the recent messages you've received from him, it is undoubtedly obvious that no corner has been turned. He will shine you on until the day one of you die or the day you finally realise you will get nothing from him until you take him to court or act upon the suggestion of a fellow basschatter that was posted a few days ago.

Just bought a very nice Schecter from Simon, he's a great guy to deal with. Top communication, quick responder, make the transaction nice and easy! Would definitely be happy to buy from again. Another credit to Basschat!

I've absolutely no issue with haggling and absolutely no issue with being haggled with. Who ever owns the item is entitled to sell it for whatever price they want, be it an inflexible price or one that they are willing to negotiate on. Some things I REALLY want and will pay up for, some things 'I'd like' and am less worried about a successful purchase so will make an offer or ask if the seller is flexible on price to get to a number I'd be willing to go to. No one needs to sell their item for anything other than asking, but haggling, negotiating, asking 'best price' etc. come with the territory of selling used items and shouldn't be taken with offence in my opinion and shouldn't be responded to in a negative way. You can engage or you can politely say you're price is firm - no harm either way and (IMO) no point in setting yourself firm buying/selling rules, take each scenario as it comes!

@EddieG - Jon will never change, he's a conman through and through. I'm fairly convinced that he's deluded himself into actually believing he is somehow morally right in his actions. My personal advice would be to take any action you can to get the value of your investment back - there has been a good suggestion of how a few posts above. He will never provide you with a bass, it does seem like you'll be waiting until one of you dies for you to realise this. He's only ever responded to extreme circumstances where the repayment of someones funds or the actual providing of a bass is much less the inconvenience than continuing to shine that person on. You've let him shine you on for literally decades, he's long by now convinced he doesn't really need to do anything to repay you. I feel for you, but you have let this go on WAY to long, and have essentially enabled his actions in doing so. Apologies if that's not overly sympathetic, but I suspect the majority of readers would, at least in part, agree.

@EddieG - Jon hasn't changed in 10 years. He won't change for you.

No it's not, very definitely different scratch plates. The mottling isn't the same at all. The grain on the fretboard is different too.
-
Scratch plate is different on the bassbros one, so unfortunately probably not the same bass.

That camphor does look identical to the back of my old one! Sawn from the same slab I assume. You going for a full matching spec?

De-blocked for you! (Was a quick type so riddled with punctuation issues! Probably still is...)

I've have no problem with selling low if I want rid of something or need quick cash knowing that someone with more time could sell it on for more, nor do I have any morale issue with buying something from someone at an agreed price and selling it on for whatever I choose to sell it on for at a later date. I assume you have a job, and that job pays you for a service you do, and that company aims to make some level of profit from whatever they do? Same game really, unfortunately the world wouldnt turn without the concept of profit and loss. Some may see you keeping half of that extra £1000 as profiteering by £500 when, by your morale code, the original seller should have been given the full amount, and some would deem it a kind gesture in a world without enough kindness. Horse for courses and all that. my position is that as long as no one is getting scammed, if I agree to buy or sell something for a particular price, what happens to that item after that mutual agreement is no one else's business but the person who owns that item legally at that moment. In a personal context, I sold a bass to someone on here years ago for £1100, which was already £300 more than I'd paid for it from eBay the year before, they then sold it for £3000 via an ad published on here shortly after. I sold it for a price that was acceptable to me, they sold it on for more as they were willing to wait for a buyer. Good for them!

It would seem to be! I think you're looking FAR too much into the reason of this post... Not everything requires over-analysis, unless of course you want to obtain a PhD in analytics that is. If you're not interested in the thread, or don't see its point, then there probably isn't a point to voicing your 'I don't see the point' point. There's a thread entirely dedicated to the discussion of tea that might be more your cup of tea, and probably a few apostrophes in the wrong place somewhere on the site (or indeed within this thread) that need you to point them out. Time might be better served in those pursuits! 😁

Greg Graffin of Bad Religion - PhD in Zoology and Professor of Evolutionary Science. Milo Aukerman of The Descendants - PhD in Molecular Genetics. Dexter Holland of The Offspring - PhD in Molecular Biology. Also aware that Brian May and Sterling Morrison also hold PhDs. Bad Religion, The Descendants and The Offspring were (and really still are) 3 of my absolute favourite bands when I was discovering music at around 13 or so. My parents never judged me in the slightest for my music choices, but there has always been a bit of a stigma around punk and punk rock. I suppose in the 80s LA days it's was justified to a degree! (No pun intended). But I do enjoy the fact that 3 of the most educated musicians out there all reside with the Punk/Punk Rock genre. I don't have a degree, certainly not a doctorate, a huge amount of respect to those that do! Anyone here, or any other musicians that have managed to not only be a musician, but somehow also earn themselves a PhD?
