Great things this GR AT208s! 😁

If the tone knob makes no difference to the sound at all then perhaps whoever serviced your bass recently accidentally damaged the loom rendering that pot defunct. If you've got an alternative bass and amp then do as you've suggested and try all the combinations to work out if another bass has the same issue through that amp or if your squier has the same issue through another amp. If you don't have another bass or amp, perhaps take your gear to a local music store and ask them if you can test one of their basses/amps to troubleshoot the cause. If you call ahead I'm sure they'd be happy to help! Though you might get roped into buying a new amp or bass!

I've used a lot of PJB cabs over the years, they are great things indeed. I find them best for a very articulate, hifi type sound. Also, if you are looking to go lighter, take a look at the GR AeroTech range, I've recently bought their 1200w 4x10 cab (a mere 15kg) and their 500w 2x8 cab (8kg). They are fantastic transparent cabs and weigh nothing.

I've not yet played through the AT208, will do this weekend. Though I expect no matter what way you slice it a 2x8 would 'perform' better than a 1x10 given a 1x10 only has 78% the speaker surface area of a 2x8 which would mean the 2x8 has more ability to shift air. This AT208 is 500w at 8 ohm so should be plenty loud enough for most reasonable applications. The AT410+ doesn't add any colour to the sound so I'd expect the AT208 to be removed same, maybe a little punchier given the smaller cone size. But for its weight it is super powerful!

After coming to the conclusion that the Mesa rig just wasn't right for me (and stupidly heavy!) I've change set ups again... this time a Kemper Profiler Power Rack with choice of GR AT410+ or GR AT208 cabs.

ACG, Kemper and GR AeroTech. Quite possibly the Holy Trinity of Bass, Amp and Cab.

True, but I'm limited for space in my little studio and this was for sale at a price that was almost equal to any other 2x8 cab so had to be done. (And it matches my AT410+ which is obviously super important!) -

And arrived it has... Just crazy light these things... -
I think you need to have posted a few times or have been a member for a few days before the sales page 'unlocks'. Stops dem pesky bots. 😁

Get a Kemper. There's 18,000 profiled amps available from their user exchange website. You can store thousands on the amp itself and set them all to the same volume/EQ if you want to ensure no volume dip/jump when switching.

Picked up a GR AT410+ last weekend, absolutely fantastic. The sound is pretty transparent - I'm using it with a Kemper Profiler head and it really articulates the difference in rig profiles very well indeed. Being able to switch between profiles from a Mesa 400+, Aguilar DB751, Markbass TA501 and Darkglass 900 with a single stomp and for the cab to really showcase the differences is superb. In fact I liked it so much I bought a GR AT208 yesterday to keep upstairs in my little studio. I think GR have re-set the benchmark with these cabs.

'Accidentally' bought a GR AeroTech 208 cab from Bass Direct yesterday... 😬 8kg, 500w, 8 Ohm. Should be good to keep in my little upstairs studio. Damn these GR cabs!!! Super light and sounds great... definitely can't be buying any more though! -
There was a guy on Gumtree selling 4 of these all with soft cases for £400 for the lot... You could just buy these and sell 3 of them and keep the 4th, you'll make your money back on 3 easy.

I agree with both of you! I don't like their cabs or heads! 😄 Though I am a massive fan of the B-Social... I have two that get used for hours everyday.

Honestly, the kemper is a bit of a faff, but... it's only really taken me 2 hours to get to grips with the functionality and I didn't read the manual (which I could have done!) Once you understand the basics, it's pretty freaking cool. The one tip I'd say, which I found out just because 'that's the way I'd have designed it' is that you need to hold your foot on a stomp button, keep your foot on the stomp button, then hold an effect button on the amp to assign that effect to that stomp, you can assign up to 4 effects to each stomp so by pressing your chosen stomp you can simultaneously activate 4 stomps. It's truly a remarkably piece of kit!! -
Bought a Kemper Profiler Power Rack and Controller from Thommy yesterday, we met in a seedy car part as is the correct way to conduct a basschat deal, everything was super smooth and all the gear is in excellent condition as described! I'd be more than happy to deal with him again, another credit to basschat!

NCD - GR AeroTech Carbon 410+ 1200w. A Mere 15kg!

If you have any intention of getting two of them, then go 8 ohm. But I think realistically one 1200w 410 is sufficient for most occasions! -

The 4 ohm version as it's what Bass Direct had in stock. The Kemper will handle a 4 ohm load at 1000w as well as an 8 ohm load at 600w and a 16 ohm load at 300w. It has a built is wattage limiter so it automatically shuts off if the load becomes too much. The power amp section they use is an ICE 1000A, so it's plenty powerful safely at 4 ohm for pretty much most situations! -
Could ways get a Kemper Profiler Power Rack - just getting used to mine but the bass valve profiles (Aguilar DB751, Mesa 400+, Ampeg SVT etc) are pretty damn spot on.

I'm now running this with a newly acquired Kemper Power Rack and Controller obtained from @thommydonuts earlier today. Only ran it at 'house' volume but it sounds fairly epic. The Darkglass 900 and Aguilar DB751 profiles are great, and the on board effects are, well, comprehensive to say the least! @la bam - It's an odd one, the weight makes you feel like it's fragile, but it really isn't! My prior Mesa rig weighed near 140kg with the covers and my Helix, this rig is 25kg with rack case, cab cover and pedal while being just as (if not much more!) versatile. -
Picked this up from Bass Direct yesterday... Well, more accurately @Bunion picked it up for me as the M25 was shut due to am accident. Anywho, here it is! The world's lightest 4x10 cab. 1200w with a tweeter and only 15kg. Will be giving it a test run later today, but it looks great and is an absolute pleasure to move around at a mere 15kg! Incredible.
