Completely Unnecessary... But Still Glorious.
binky_bass replied to binky_bass's topic in Amps and Cabs
That is a 33" ACG Salace E-Type with a Blue resin/Buckeye burl top. Tis indeed a tasty beast! -
You don't want to fit those! They're quite brittle and are specifically for cabs with 'cut holes' for the handles as they're recessed. They wouldn't be suitable. I'd listed them on the off-chance someone was perhaps wanting to add original parts to a project. In reality, they're not really worth using. They'll be in the bin this evening!

Mysterious Mesa amp(s) problem, I'd appreciate some help
binky_bass replied to Beedster's topic in Amps and Cabs
We did have a 7 hour bare knuckle fight followed by a battle with Rhodesian fighting sticks. But in the end, all was settled! -
Before I toss these in the bin, does anyone have a use for 4 Marshall Jubilee bass cab handles? I've replaced them with official Marshall replacements, so these will be binned next week unless anyone wants them for any reason! See picture for condition. £5 postage (or whatever it comes to!)

Any idea what make this fretless bass is?
binky_bass replied to Billy Bowman Music's topic in Bass Guitars
It is indeed an ACG fretless bass (Alan Cringean Guitars) built by @skelf. He builds absolutely excellent instruments... I have 5 of his basses at the moment! How did you come across it if you don't mind me asking? You've got a very nice bass there. -

Yeah, I doubt I'll ever gig the Marshall, I might once just for the sake of it, but the Epifini UL901 and Bergantino 410 cab are probably going to be the 'gig rig'. Easy enough to move about. The Marshall is an amp I've always wanted, so when it came up (with the cabs) for a pretty irresistible price, and at a location on the way home from a business trip, I wasn't strong enough to resist! -

My 'journey' has been largely based on chopping and changing things over the years - a few single investments here and there and then it was just a matter of selling something and buying something else or trading etc. so not a huge total outlay, just a lot of swapping things about! Means you can try a lot of great gear for minimal cost. 👍 -

Truer words were never spoken! Reckon I've been through 150+ amps over the years and (without exaggeration) 2000+ basses/guitars. GAS fears me. -
Mr Grezza sold me a speaker cable, it arrived promptly and does what I need it to do! Great communication throughout, a nice smooth transaction - would happily buy from again! Cheers sir! 👍

Yeah, us and two other bands. Don't have any kind of following to populate Chinnerys ourselves! 😄
-
We've played there maybe 4 times many moons ago, so they're 'aware' of us... loosely. I did send them an email about a gig months back and got no response (I imagine they get MANY such emails given they're the only decent venue for originals bands in the area). A few weeks back, they emailed me asking if we wanted to play, we said yes and the rest is yesterday's history!

It's been a LONG time since we've gigged... pre-COVID in fact. Babies, job changes, personal circumstances etc. got in the way. But we've never been a band for the purpose of gigging, (as odd as that may sound) we do it because we like writing music and having our weekly practice! It's a great way to let off steam, be idiots for a few hours and have a laugh. Finally however, we decided enough is enough and we should probably do a gig! So we did. It was at Chinnerys in Southend. A reasonable crowd of +100 people and it was good fun! Fully utilised my wireless set up and took to the crowd a number of times! Reckon we've got the lust back for semi-regular gigging. Shame there's so few decent venues in Essex that put on shows for originals bands... Backing for those interested: Band Name: Art Of Rebellion (album 'The Fire Ignites' can be found on Spotify/iTunes etc.) Bass: ACG Salace E-Type 33" 6 String Bass Amp: Epifini UL901 with Bergantino 410 Effects: Line6 Helix Guitar 1: Fender USA Custom Strat and Musicman Pattruci 7 string Guitar Amp 1: Freidman JJ20 with Marshall Vertical 212 Guitar Effects 1: Some boss stuff Guitar 2: ACG/Reiver Custom 7 and Musicman Pattruci 6 Guitar Amp 2: Blackstar Series One with Custom 212 cab (2 Vintage 1970s Goodmans speakers) Guitar Effects 2: Line6 Helix Drums: Mapex 6 piece kit with Sabian AAX Cymbals and Evans skins.

Excellent Customer Service From Marshall

One added just for you! -
On Tuesday I bought a Marshall VBA400 with a Marshall Jubilee 410 and 115 cabs. The handles on both cabs are pretty damaged and when playing through the VBA400 the plastic handles rattled a lot! (I was aware of this prior to purchase!) I gave Marshall a ring on Wednesday to ask them if they knew where I could get replaced handles for the Jubilee cabs (bear in mind these cabs are from 1987) and within seconds I was put through to a very helpful lady that arrange for 4 handles to be sent out to me for a mere £25 all in. They arrived today, very well package and exactly matching the handles from the Jubilee cabs. Great service! 👍

I had a CTM300 that I recently sold. Great amp, but not particularly intuitive in terms of dialing in a preferred sound. The Marshall was very easy to get a great tone from. Personal preference, but as it stands, I definitely prefer the Marshall to the CTM300. The Marshall is VERY close to the sound I had from my Mesa Strategy Eight:88. -

I doubt I'll ever really move it unless I sell it. The Epifini and Berg rig on the left is the 'gig rig'. Might use the Berg or Mesa cab with the Marshall live on the odd occasion for fun, but those Marshall cabs are nearing 40 years old and deserve an easy ride at least while in my custody! -
@tom1946 - Crafter BA400EQ are great basses, often can be found for £150-£200ish second hand. I've owned probably 4 or 5 of these at least over the years, all really well built, all do a fine job of being an acoustic bass!

There's a Bergantino 412 for sale on here that I'm tempted to pair the VBA400 with, but don't really want to get rid of the Jubilee cabs as A: They're 1987 so YOB for me and B: Sound genuinely great! Looking forward to giving it a proper run tomorrow at band practice, which luckily doesn't involve moving it! -
Hi all, Ive reached the physical limit my house/studio can hold in terms of amps/guitars/basses etc. So this little Chestnut is on the chopping block. I bought it a few years ago for nostalgia as I used to have a white 12 string version years ago. The neck does have a bow and the action is high, I've never played it so never sorted it. Just had it as a wall hanger. So I'm only asking £75 including postage but NOT including the hard case. It'll be sent in a guitar box. Or you can collect from Essex.

So, today on the way home from a work trip I met a chap that sold me an amp... That amp was a Marshall VBA400 with a Jubilee 410 and 115. The cabs have seen better days, cosmetically they have their war wounds, but the work a treat! The amp has a few tiny little marks, but would probably rank 8.5 out of 10 for condition. Just lugged this colossus down to the garden studio some 300ft away from the driveway (yes, my spine is now dust) and set it up. It's quite monstrous... it's current set at about one quarter volume and gain and its still making my ears bleed. Given it has 8 KT88 valves powering it I shouldn't be too surprised. Pumps out +400w of glorious Marshall valve bass goodness! Given I play 6 string bass, and mostly prefer a more HiFi sound, I am pleasantly surprised that the 'bright' button really does hit the mark for me. Been lusting after one of these for probably 20 years! Happy to now have one and not be disappointed.
