"I can't really read music so I would've had it!" Thats quite encouraging! I've only heard odds and ends of his playing, the stuff he did with Seal was great. Excellent player. Nothing like a bit of british modesty! Dan

Can basses keep their value? Not mine. My stingray has knocks all over the head stock, I think even calling that mojo is debatable! It's been well used and still plays brilliantly mind. The Carl Thompson basses seem to keep their value very well, one has just been sold on here I believe. Though it seems to really come down to the condition and any molesting thats gone on, ie as new condition and no molesting/modding. Dan
Funny you should say that, but yeah, as well
Haha! They're a bit on the big side for beer mats aren't they?
I'm trying to get a bass on order now. Not sure what I'm going to go for but I'm checking the stock. If the Marlowe DK was available in the UK close to the Thomann price I think I'd pounce. After researching around for something that isn't a Fender/Musicman bass, I think I've found something different, but still retaining the classic styling, etc. Also, they aren't stupidly expensive. I was set on looking at a Sadowsky Metro but I can't bring myself to spend £2K on a bass that doesn't absolutely 'wow' me.
I know exactly what you mean. I feel lucky to have played a Sadowski jazz and it was possibly one of the nicest basses I've ever played, no more than a Sandberg though. Well not enough of a difference to justify spending double. Sharing info on good venues : poll attached
pietruszka replied to The Admiral's topic in General Discussion
Great idea, a bit of guidance is always handy, especially in areas you're travelling to, as bertbass says. Perhaps one for promotors to? I know 1 I'd avoid at all costs and a couple who have been rather good with us. Dan -

The Producer's: Trevor Horn "Two Tribes" bassline
pietruszka replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
Agree about the tone he's getting there -like that. I thought Norman Watt Roy played on some of the FGTH stuff or is my memory making that up?
Not at all, he did play on Relax. I think most of the Blockheads played on that one, that band certainly did the rounds for people, especially when they were signed to Stiff records. Dan -
I can't see anyone ever regretting buying a Sandberg.
I can without argue see this. I absolutely love mine to bits. I use it (4 string basic fretless) solely in my country rock band, used it in my rock band when that was about. The pre amp is excellent, the neck is pretty much perfect, I certainly can't fault it. The build is outstanding and the sound is sublime! I would love to get another, maybe a jazz I'm not sure. I'd need to play a couple as the only basses I've ever owned have had MM style humbuckers on. Sandberg seem to be getting a lot of attention as of late. And rightly so I think. Dan
What cab are you selling?
I have a mark bass 410hr, it's rather compact for a 410 I feel. PM me if you want some more details. Dan
Cheers for all the helpful advice. I've just seen how much my cabinet weighs and it is quite heavy in my opinion so maybe a lighter 4x10 would be sufficient. The Mesa 2x12 powerhouse cabinet seems quite decent too.
I have a lightweight 410 for sale! Hintidy hint hint! Dan

I now use 210's, and used to use only 410's. I still love them but made the move as I have the bands PA and drove a Nissan Micra! The markbass 410 (which I'm selling) is outstanding, I love it but the space is needed and so went for a 210, also markbass. It's great, it you get the right one you should still get plenty bottom end. My 210 sounds incredible, while it's not a 410 and will never compete with it, it is still great. Have a play through as many as you can with your amp head and see what takes your fancy. If you're in the North East you're welcome to drop by and try my 210 out. Dan

I think it is extremely well done, but it's not for me, personally I much prefer these; http://www.thomann.de/gb/sandberg_custom_stripe_bass_fl.htm http://www.thomann.de/gb/sandberg_puzzle_panther_tt_fretless.htm I love these two basses so much, and I really wished I had the funds for one. Or both! Dan
If you've got a CMD151p or 121p combo buy this Cab! You will then own the most flexible rig ever! Good price too!
Cheers! I can't believe how little these are going for compared to the 210's, still demand and all that. Though not having sold anything on here before, I have bought from Giblett123, Legion, OBBM and Higgie. Dan

Moves like Jagger synth bass sound budget options
pietruszka replied to bassadder's topic in Effects
Ive played that track with a big muff Pi. I have the sustain as low as I can get to give a rough kind of synthy sound, the tone knob dialed more towards the bass-y end and the volume as you need. While it's not perfect, it may give a similar sound to some. It worked for me and no one came up to me and said "hey, you're trying to pass that big muff off as a synth. You should be strung up!"
Good luck..... excellent stand alone cabs or with a 2x10 traveller on top or 15 underneath !
Damn it! Don't say that! Thats what I have and it certainly looks amazing, but even with the 210 I've had sound men asking me to turn down. Ahhhh! I really don't want to have to sell it but it really doesn't get any use from me these days. Dan

Hi all, Regrettably this has to go, its largely surplus to requirements and I'd rather it was getting used by someone. This is by far the best 410 I have ever owned and I'll be sad to see it go, but needs must. It's 800 watts, 8 ohms, and light at 25 kg. It does have a couple of cosmetic marks from use on it but it has been used regularly until I got my 210, but still in great condition for being a few years old, I'd say 8/10. My 'global limit has been exceeded' so I'm not sure how to rectify that other than linking you to pictures. Pick up preferred in the North East area or I can drive within reasonable distance. £425. Dan

Cheltenham bassist wanted for ska-funk band
pietruszka replied to chrisdoris's topic in Bassists Wanted
Sundown are a great band, if I was closer I'd love to do this! I've been in a couple of bands with Chris before, who ever goes for this will really enjoy it! Dan -
Reading rhythms,I think,is the hardest part. There is a lot more possibilities than there are actual notes. The best way I've found for rhythm reading is,simply,to count.Basically,as you probably know,it goes... Semibreve- 1(2,3,4) Minim - 1(2)3(4) Crotchet - 1,2,3,4 Quaver - 1&,2&,3&,4& Semiquaver-1e&a,2e&a,3e&a,4e&a (Obviously there are more, like triplets, but they are for later.) If you understand that,it then just comes down to different combinations.Take it steady and count without a metronome-it's more about the counting than being in strict time. Eventually you'll begin to recognise patterns and you won't have to count them, because you will know how they go. Check out a book like 'Modern Reading Text in 4/4' for some rhythm reading exercises. It's a drum book so it's purely rhythmic, but it's got some great exercises and it gets pretty tough as it goes on.
I've been doing that quite a bit lately, either counting through and vocally accenting the notes with the part of the bar that they fall on, or clapping one hand on my leg in 4 and the other hand claps the rhthym on the other leg. I found that learning to read isn't hard, but getting good at it just takes practice, and plenty of it. I struggle with rhythm and thats the bit that gets me. I recently bought a book which I recommend, it's called "Improve your sight-reading!" and I've found it really useful. It's a work book for examinations and has rhythm exercises, introduces you to keys which as you work through the book feels really natural. It is for trombone, but! It's in bass clef which I feel is important, I don't know why there isn't much for bass guitar which doesn't have tab. Honestly, if you're a good enough player to play Jaco stuff you shouldn't need tab, it tells you nothing about the piece! Sounds like you're making progress though, and it's always satisfying when you learn a piece from dots. Master Blaster is a nice one to read! Dan

We get £250 for a pub gig, the popular nightclubs in the town pay band members between £50-£60 each, which isn't that good considering one of them is playing until 1:30am. However they are notoriously stingy. We've also learnt the going rate for weddings seems to have dropped slightly. Though for pubs £200-£250 is about right, if you can get more bonus! Even though you are only doing this for pocket money, don't be afraid to ask about the money, especially if you ask for more. It's just money, and they'll either say yes or no! Yes you're doing it for fun but you don't want to be a walk over either. Dan

I'm only running a 30watt amp as I'm only up against acoustic guitars. So the 150watt inverters will be fine. Maplins do one for £20 which sounds ideal. Thanks again for the advise! Dan

Nice one, cheers! That seems to be just the thing I was after. Thanks very much! Dan
