They surely would burn it. Just think of all the fine ganga that has ended up on the bonfire. The feds have no soul. Anyroad, this is a very very old story isn't it? Amd I thought it was over their Brazilian Rosewood. Any guitar builder must be very careful when importing guitars into the U.S. Making sure the timber used is all legal. They have the power to extradite and lock you up in one of their prisons for the trade of illegal cites registered stuff.
I think it was over the Madagascan ebony, there was a documentary about Madagascan lemurs which involved a side story about the illegal logging of macasar ebony. It's the habitat of lemurs and the wood was unknowingly sold to Gibson. There are basses that sound so good they should be illegal, but then theres doing that literally! Dan

OBBM made my speakon cable, it's great. Well as great as a cable can be I suppose! Clean sound, very well put together, excellent value for the quality of it, used it for a fair while now and in perfect working order still. Of course, not to mention the outstanding service. I'll definitely use him for any other cables I need for my bass rig. And yes, yours WILL work. I'd needn't worry! Dan

YYZ is a great track to play, a really good challenge to. I played that in my mates band for his drum recital, I didn't get all the notes in, ie It wasn't exactly as it is on the record. Learn it in sections, if I'm not mistaken it has 3 sections. The drummer I played it for put me on to a wiki article about it which helps get a better understanding of the track. The intro is actually morse code for YYZ (._.. ._.. .._ _) but played in 10/8 (IIRC). Learn it in sections and you'll be fine! Let us know how you get on. Dan
Sounds a bit like a village jumble sale where you end up buying back stuff you've forgotten you ever owned.
I'll get the bunting!
GAs/herding, fashion, marketing... Please note, also, that this forum has a very unique dynamic - we'll have trends on here which are not, necessarily, being replicated elsewhere in the market.
Haha! In what sense? That about 90% of the gear goes to other BC users, and ends up back on the forum to other BC users? 214of500 has seen his gear back on here a few times from other BC members. Which he bought off here! It is a good way of vouching for people though! Dan

I have noticed this to. I think part of it is GAS, but some of it surely comes down to need/requirements. For example, more people are living in flats these days than they used to, therefore we don't have the space to store equipment and so 112's and 210's are becoming more common place due to there small footprint. They become 'popular'. We no longer need a 410 and 115 to get 600 watts. Of course, it could just be that engineering, technology and an increased understanding of things has moved speaker technology in a direction of smaller more compact cabs. Dan

They look nice certainly! But please, someone explain to me why you'd need an aux in? Am I missing something or being really thick? Dan
. A supportive partner is essential and as your's knows exactly where you're coming from, maybe it's your turn now! Good luck.
Yes, yes and yes. My other half is amazingly supportive and understanding, as well as her parents. They all acknowledge how difficult it can be, especially in the current climate, pubs and clubs not wanting to take on any one else etc etc. Im still in training to be a climbing instructor to top up my wages and I'm still aiming to teach to. As a couple of people have said here, try it, you may regret it if you don't. I know I'm pleased I tried it! Dan
Don't underestimate how difficult and stressful it can be, even for established artists.
Absolutely this. Im really struggling to make ends meet, and I lodge at my sister's house. Even just getting regular local work is difficult. Our guitarist got knocked back 10 venues in a row, one pub we had to book 12 months in advance and even then they cancelled 2 weeks before the gig. I am actually strongly considering doing something else as a job. It's an insane amount of work for seemingly very little return, however as stressful as this is I much prefer it to retail. And when the work does come in it's great, just be prepared for quiet patches. Im trying to get into teaching and have started to advertise my self, there is a rock music school a few minutes walk from mine and they currently have no bass tutors, however the fear I have is that I only have experience to fall back on. If you can do several things in it then great, but it's almost impossible to just rely on gigging. Take the plunge by all means, you'll enjoy it as difficult as it can be but be prepared to fall back on something else. Dan

Nice one! Well done, it's a great track. Just make sure who ever starts it doesn't start too fast! Now that will give you a work out! Master blaster is an amazing track! Dan
I think the gist of it is that if they see you as risky and you're the only driver you will be using the vehicle 100% of the time. If the policy includes two other drivers who are perceived as less risky than you, you will be using the vehicle for a lower proportion of the time so the risk is lower and so is the premium you pay.
Ok that makes sense, but surely its CAR insurance, not driver insurance. So the car is insured to 3 drivers and is on the road potentially 3 times as much and in that view more of a risk. But I think your way makes more sense. Dan
-
Right, I'm really confused now (no pun intended), I've just got a quote on confused.com and put my Mum and gf on the policy as named drivers, the quote is now £589! It costs me less to put more drivers on the car? Does any one on here work for an insurer to explain how this works? Dan
I'm with Direct Line. 22 years old, first policy that I'm principal holder - £700 for a 2.0 Volvo V50 and that's with business added on to SDPC which adds price to it. Have you given them a call? Sometimes it helps to add someone else to the policy?
Thats ridiculous! Im paying almost £600 for a 1lt micra at the moment. Direct line wouldn't give me a quote. And this is with my Dr. girlfriend who works as a Uni lecturer on the policy to. I don't understand ho I'm getting such insane quotes, it's getting to the point where I'm tempted to give up music as a job as it's costing me a fortune. I'm not earning enough to make a full living yet.
How old are you? Have you actually made a claim (ie protected NCB) Add a parento r somethign who has 25 years on it
Im 29, no claims, no points, no convictions, will have 7 years NCB next month. Dan
-
As the topic says, car insurance! Im having a nightmare trying to get reasonable car insurance as a musician. Im about to buy a 52 plate Fcous Zetec 1.6, the best quote I have is just shy of £700 with 7 years NCB. Adrian flux have quoted me £2,000! Swiftcover who I'm already with wouldn't give me a quote for this car! It's only group 5! The quote for my sisters Golf GTI was less than this and it has a 1.8 engine and is group 12, who does it work? 'Cos it doesn't make any sense. Who are people with here? Who can you recommend? Dan

Discovering weird yet brilliant music
pietruszka replied to Cameronj279's topic in General Discussion
+1 for Mr. Bungle, brilliant band, Dead Goon and Ars Moriendi are personal favourites. The track in the first post reminds me of Party At Ground Zero by Fishbone. I enjoyed it! The kit sounds fantastic. Dan -
Your methods for learning new songs (covers)
pietruszka replied to Cameronj279's topic in General Discussion
As a lot of people have said, I learn it by ear. If the notation is available I use that (reading practise is always good!). I listen to it several times through, then I just play the roots to get the sequence dialled in, then everything else tends to fall into place. Dan -
Forget me nots is an excellent track. Here's another tasteful slap track; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uv7y6PKEYms Ashes to ashes is a great one to. Dan
Well guys, some of you will have seen the seperate thread for my new LPB PM/VM4. But Oli encoraged me to post here too. I've had it for two days now, It feels amazing and through headphones and an amp in bass direct it sounds amazing. I can't wait for band practice next Sunday, I'm gonna be pretty excited! Does anybody know what strings these ship with I'm sure they're sandberg steel strings as they have the silver/grey wrap on the ends. Just wanted to know they gauge, I'm sure they're 40-100 but I wondered if anybody on here knew for sure. Also is there somewhere in the uk that sells these? And what strings do others have on their bergs? Here's some pics:
Very nice! I love the blue! Theres also a Sandberg thread in the gear porn forum, confusingly titled with the same name. Dan
I had no idea- big mainstream success with their first album. Heavy play listing etc. Enjoy the gig :-)
I will, thank you! Dan kindly dedicated a song in memory of my dad when he died last year. Sound bloke and an excellent businessman. Dan
Biiiiig drum sound on that opening track! Everything sounded expensive. Slightly OT but in a similar 'big first album but what happened next' kind of way, what ever happened to The Feeling?
Haha! I'm seeing them later this month! The singer was an ex student of my dads and we're still in contact with him. They had 2 albums since, not as catchy as the first but still enjoyable to listen to.
The production of the first album was really sweet. Drums sounded awesome. Dunno what happened to them. Ah well.
Yep the production is outstanding on the first album. The drummer actually had a lot to do with it if I remember correctly, and he's done the production certainly on the following 2 albums even though he doesn't play for them. I personally like 'Moves Like Jagger', but I haven't heard any of the recent stuff beyond 'Hands All Over' so I can't cast judgment. And yes I call it Moobs like Jabba/Jagga to! We don't play to set lists so the stage signal for that one is cupping our 'breasts'! Dan
-
I've felt much the same way on occasion, but then I've been bi-curious before and I didn't do anything about that either.
Hahahaha! Thats cheered me up reading that! Not for those reasons before anyone says owt. Dan
-
What!? How dare you! I loved the last album, by which I mean Hands All Over. But yes, Songs About Jane is excellent. Dan

I personally went straight for the unlined fretless route, I tried lined ones but it got me confused and I felt dizzy playing them! The offer still stands if you want to try mine in Newcastle. Dan
