1. Bump. Amazing heads these. Mine's never let me down and sounds amazing! It should be a crime to not even consider one of these heads. Good luck with the sale! Dan
2. You seem to be taking it well! try and take a professional approach, a mate of mine is a sought after session guitarist and has played for some big names. When I last met him he just reeled off a very long list of people he'd been sacked from. It happens all the time and you will find someone else to play for. We're all bass players here and we all know how in demand bass players are! They sound like a bunch of gimps anyways, except the singer. Dan
3. No indie shoe gazing? Youll never get a band if you dont want that. Thats all there is here. Hope you find something you want soon though. Dan
4.
Is that a backwards bass solo I've just heard on the album version of "Jack Sh*t George" from "Mr Love Pants"?
Yeah it is, but more likely one of those weird effects that feeds the volume into the note. Amazing bass player, easily my favourite. And yes, i agree with Lee4, he should have a sainthood. Excellent player and a joy to listen to and watch. Dan
5. I to am a lover of the Hartke. My first half stack rig was a HA2500 and a Transporter 410. I loved it and only got rid of it because I could afford better, and believe me I had to spend ALOT more to get better than Hartke. I always recommend then to any bass player on a budget, theyre affordable, nay, very affordable, reliable and sound great! +1 on the Hartke love. Id use them again. Man, I miss my Hartke rig now! Dan
6. Im gonna be a pain here. I personally can not stand the man. I think he is unbearably arrogant, obnoxious and the stingiest man alive. Solid bass player but have never liked what he's done. He's not for me. Please, this is just my opinion. I favour other bass players. For fear of causing an uproar, this is only my opinion. Dan
7. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lj6-gohzsaE No excuse!!! Hope you feel better soon. We've all been there. Dan
8. This is something I seem to explain to you our singer over and over again. We (as a band) will never ever hear what we sound like, simply because we're on stage playing it. We sound totally different out front to how we hear ourselves on stage. Standing away a little further (stage size permitting) from your rig helps to let the frequencies 'breath' a bit getting a more true representation of your sound in the space provided. When my rig isn't DI'd I boost the bass just that tiny bit more as the low end does dissipate a bit. When DI'd, I get my on stage sound right and the sound man does the rest. A lot of people have said here that if the sound man/crowd is happy then thats cool. I agree. When you're playing to a paying crowd all that matters is that they're happy. If I cant hear my self, Im not too fussed as I know my parts inside out. I have an approach that is 'Im a professional', so Ill make the best out of any gear the band gets given. If we sound bad, thats not us, its the gear. Its not because we cant play because we can. It is frustrating when you think you sound bad, but trust us all on here, you wont sound cack. It will always sound different out front. Dan
9. I dont have receipts for my gear, but i have separate musicians insurance from Music Guard. Roughly £3k's worth of gear costs me £90 for the year. Its covered in the house, in the car, gig venue, recording+practice studio for the full value. The last 2 are for up to 72 hours to. So if need be I can leave my gear at the venue over night if i need to. Check them out. As with regards to your 'dilemma', Id ask the insurance company and see what theyll cover you for. The advantage of Music Guard is that you can taylor the policy for what you do, and pay accordingly. Hope this helps. Dan
10. Bump!!! No one interested?
11. Im selling a US made Fender Strat guitar in red with tort. shell scratch plate and hardcase. Its 2001 and in brand new condition. Hes after a quick sale, so, £500. In the Newcastle area to. Contact me if interested. Thanks for looking!
12.
can i just add that with these thousands of pounds worth of gear, does it not withstand abuse? thousands of pounds mis spent to me! with all the wattage available you'd be deaf before the amp blew! the only trouble i've had with not being allowed to borrow backline is normally jumped up tribute bands that are too high and mighty to let anyone touch their gear! they think cause they've spent 20 years playing live they are the only ones who know how to use an amp!then they usually get blown off stage by us! lol if you dont find out what gear is needed before you go to the gig (by talking to the other bassists in the bands playing that night) then you have seriously never had the shaft with gear! most changeovers in pubs and festivals are SOOO much easier and quicker and ensure your band have a good shot at having a good sound when you go on! i'm more than happy to lend my gear out if i'm aware of the situation in advance, cause i know it will cope with what i throw at it, so i know it will cope with a more inexperienced player! if i'm told there is a house bass amp, i take my own cause it is without exception, crap! sorry for the rant, but thats the way its been for the last 10 years on the live pub/ club/ festival rock scene! maybe its different for muso jazzy sorts
Good point. But the issue here is some other bass players generally dont know what theyre doing and can, not always, misuse gear. ie running the gain way too high, putting drinks on top of the vents on te amp etc. My gear can take being played hard, but ive set it up cos i know what im doing. But I dont trust an inexperience, arrogant gimp from an indie band to have the same approach. Again, you raise a very good point, but its the potential damage from some bass players out there who think every one else will provide gear for them. Dan
13. I only let other bass players use my gear if i know them. The 27 Club, Smoove and Turrell and The Soul Jazz Orchestra have used my gear, but they know what theyre doing. Other wise, I never ever ever let any one even touch my gear. Its expensive, Mark Bass 410 HR and Aguilar AG 500 SC. Will they have the money to replace it, or the promotor take responsibility? I dont think so, so, tough. I personaly dont buy the sob stories of 'i dont have a car', 'the gear wont fit in the car' etc. I have to take our guitarist and all his gear, all my gear and our singer in one car. If I can do it, so can they. Also, a side note that sorta links in with this; Why can guitarists all bring their own amps but bass players have to share? Dan
14. Its not that hard. I play for 3 people; Soul Technique, main effort which I spend most of my time in. This bands gigs take priority. I play for Anna Leigh Middleton which doesnt take much time, but does fill it out when the work is on! I also play for Little Makers, this is weekly with hopefully regular gigs. I find its most benificial to be in more than one band. It gives your mind a break from what you do in each band and allows you to return to each band fresh. Every one in every one of my bands are in at least one project. Hope this helps. Dan

18. Thank Christ Im not on my own on this one!!!! I ended up waiting nearly 2 months for a refund. Every time I rang they said it was getting sorted. How many times can a simple refund 'get sorted'? Its a shame theyre that bad on customer service now-a-days. I got my string ray and first bass amp from them 10 years ago and they were amazing when it was the high street shop! I agree, I dont think ill be using them again, especially with the amount of money you can spend on equipment. Sound staff but really lack customer service. Dan
19. Hey!!! Im in a band called Soul Technique. Were soul/funk/hip hop. Were recieving radio play on the Craig Charles Funk And Soul Show, we got radio play in Italy and have just released our EP. Check us out at www.myspace.com/soultechniqueofficial. Theres some good sounds on this topic! Dan
20. Ill try and get an audio clip or 2 up asap for you all. Thanks for the interest and comments! Dan
21. You can get it done in a long weekend if you blast it. It took me a couple of weeks but ive had soo much on otherwise. Honestly its soo worth doing! I got an order for one last night to!! Im planning on making the next one out of one piece of wood rather than a few sections. If you need to know owt more, just ask. Dan
22.
Is the whammy bar on a spring? Sorry for all the questions but since you've posted it i've been searching for some sort of project guide and I can't find anything!
I dont mind the questions! Ask away! The whammy handle isnt on a spring, it uses the tension from the string. Ive used an A string and detuned it to roughly the minor 3rd below. Its surprisingly hard to play melodies on it but its great as a purcussive instrument. Dan
23.
So you basically got an old fretless bass and cut the wings off and put the whammy bit on the top? I'm really thinking about making one. My iron has a hook on the handle which I use to hang it on my mug.
Yeah it was an old fretless I used, one I made at college. Got the longest section I could out of the body and trimmed enough off the neck from either side. I used the electronics to. I recommend doing it! Its great frun and such a laugh! If you had the iron in the mug you could keep your tea hot! Dan
24. Haha!! I suppose I should buy one. But! Im skint and a tool box did the job! Though I did nearly burn a mark on the neck and on my hand a couple of times. Dan
25.
That's ace. I saw Les playing his a few weeks ago. I'd love one! How did you do the fingerboard?
Was that at Koko? I saw that show and it was awesome! The fingerboard is glued on, the whole thing was originally a fretless bass and It wasnt the nicest of things to play, the neck was very wide and it was top heavy. So! Out came the circular saw! Dan
