Don't forget, playing New Years is essentially having New Years off as a person out for the celebrations. You can't really drink or join in on the festivities like everyone else, which is why bands are well paid for this. Money shouldn't be a dirty word, don't forget the venue will be making thousands that night. I'd be inclined to go in with a fee then negotiate extras ie a table for the other halves etc. Yes some of us do it for enjoyment, but this will be a great opportunity for some pocket money. A weekend away in a b&b somewhere in the new year? Dan

You could try it, there's no reason why not. My band, a four piece is getting £1200 for 3x45 minute sets. Every 'contract' is negotiable, see what you can get. Dan
But there aren't any rails. They're Poles. But not from Poland. Yet still you can polish them.
Wait a minute, I'm Polish, but not from Poland. Though you wouldn't want to polish me , though I do like trains. Dan
Ohhhhh-kaaaaaaay. Ahem. Like any thread about pickup pole pieces this one has its pluses and minuses. *cough* (where's that goddamn tumbleweed emoticon?)
Hahaha! Here all week? Dan
You think THAT'S bad? You ain't seen nothing yet...
I'm sitting with a cuppa, you will be scored out of 10, so make it good. Dan
Unfortunately they'll never be united - they're poles apart
Jesus christ. Thats on the same level as 'Dad jokes'. Dan
so I reckon not all polepieces are created equal...
Are you suggesting there is some form of magnet apartheid?! Dan

I know what you mean, mine are going black around the edges, largely on the A string poles. Cant help you beyond that, but you're not alone! Dan

You shouldn't go wrong with them then, they're plenty loud enough and really light. By which I mean you could pick them up with your toes. Dan

Ive played a gig and have used the Alto tourmax ones. Admittedly it was a restaurant type gig and only vocals were through it, but they sounded great, really really clear. I'll be following this thread as my singer is after a monitor. Dan

Oh yeah, I'm not saying it's in any way cheap, but then Warwick do say "If you can dream it, we can build it". But still, at least companies are doing this, and when it becomes standard practice the price should (holds breath) come down. But only time will tell! Of course the solution it seems is to recycle, or to put it another way, buy second hand. Dan
I've never had a Warwick bass but I'm quite prepared to believe they are wonderful things. However, I really don't buy the "sustainability" thing. Sustainability isn't really about planting a new tree to replace a bit of wood, it's fundamentally about energy and the fact that our lifestyles are seriously in the red as far as energy is concerned. For the time being we're living the high-life by spending our 'fossil fuel savings', but we know it can't last. It's simply not sustainable. The amount of energy we use is proportional to the amount of money involved. The more money involved, the more energy is used. These are high-priced luxury items and people have to earn a lot of money to pay for them. Earning that money involves using a lot of energy and spending that money sustains a lot of other people in their similarly high-energy lifestyles. So, yes, the wood involved may be 'green' and the low-energy lightbulbs and solar cells used in their factory may be 'green' (although are you aware of the energy-intensive manufacturing processes involved in both those items?), but that's a long way from being truly sustainable. Just a bit more 'greenwash' marketing, I'm sorry to say.
Yes, I suppose sustainability isn't just about planting a tree for every one that gets cut down, but it's good to see a company taking some responsibility for putting back what they take. After all, some basses use some rare woods which have become endangered post art deco period when they were cut down in the masses. I did get the lecture form my GF who has a PhD in remote sensing, so cutting trees down as companies see fit to make instruments out of is a bit of a delicate subject! Personally, I'm quite pleased to see guitar manufacturers doing this, after all it make sense in this day and age. Toilet paper companies do it, as do printing paper people and most packaging these days is FSC. So it only makes sense. Dan
. All I know is that they have a fabulous sustainability policy, the design and build quality is exceptional, the ergonomics and usability features are outstanding, they are superbly consistent in their quality control, they play wonderfully and sound absolutely beautiful. I can't think of many large scale manufacturers that can claim those attributes. I am pretty sure that I'm a Warwick player for life.
Yes! Their sustainability polcy is excellent, I'm surprised every company doesn't have this. Though they might do and we haven't heard about it, after all, everything is in place to allow it to happen. As for the bass in this thread, I love it! Though I'm not sure I'd own one, but I do like it! Its not as nice looking at the CT one they did, is it you Silddx that has it now? Dan

It happens! It happened to me not too long ago, I've been playing 13 years. The trick is to crack on and do what you can, experience will most definitely help. Don't let it get you down, bad gigs happen but you will have more good ones than bad ones! Dan
I'd second this. The poor and uncomfortable design of the straps is the one thing that I don't like about my M80. It's no good making your semi-rigid gig bag lighter than everyone else's if it's unpleasant to wear on your back for any length of time.
That'll be the 3 of us then! We should do a mass email to them! Dan

15 year old guitarist ? Now new band member !
im sure its not illegal for someone of 15 to be in a pub, as long as they don't drink
Absolutely this! I'd be inclined to mention it to the venue with each gig, just make them aware. Assure them he won't be drinking anything other than soft drinks. Theres a band round here that play the pub circuit and they're only 16 ish, and thats all 4 of them! But they do have their parents with them. Dan -
An update: The promoter messaged me apologising profusely again and promising a gig in the near future at full whack, In the meantime I got in touch with a new venue and we got a gig there on Saturday at the double the money we would've! Win-win!
And that's how you do it! Dan

I'd personally let it go, you've learnt your lesson. Especially if he's known for this sort of behaviour. There's a 'promotor' up here who is the biggest hole I've ever come across. He's cancelled gigs on us last minute, never pays, never promotes, all the usual nonsense. The simple matter is we don't get any more gigs with him now. No one ever turns up to his promotions as he doesn't promote them, we have never benefitted from playing his gigs. I'd go with another promoter if you can. The sad truth is, if you tell all of your mates bands what he's like and not to go with him, it won't make any difference. new bands get formed all the time and he'll get those as they have no idea what his reputation is like. I sold my Markbass 104 HR to Lozz, excellent communication, paid straight away. A pleasure to deal with. I'd be happy to sell to him again and buy from him to. Enjoy the cab! Dan

Ampeg B-HLF 410 vs Hartke Hydrive 4x10 HELP!!!
pietruszka replied to kevindoudie's topic in Amps and Cabs
I`ve not used the specific Ampeg cab mentioned, but if it sounds like an Ampeg, you`re looking at two very different sounding cabs. The Ampeg (if traditional sounding) will have that warm round sound, bit scooped sounding, thick lower mids and low end, a more traditional sound. The Hartke is very punchy and precise, no "boom" but a solid punch of bass, a far more modern bass sound. For a good example of them, try out www.thomann.de. They have audio samples of both of these cabs on there.
Exactly this. I've played the Ampeg cab in question and it's lovely, heavy but a really deep, full, thick sound. A proper trouser flapping cab! The Hartke one I haven't tried, but I did own a 410 Transporter cab, they still have a deep sound but with a bit more of a defined feel to it. Both very different sound, but still very nice. I don't think you'll be disappointed with either, it's just which you'd prefer. Dan -

When do you start to rehearse your Christmas songs?
pietruszka replied to Chris2112's topic in General Discussion
Normally in the car park before we go on.
If only we had that amount of time! We've done it as we're about to play it! Last Christmas I think it was, the singer/guitarist shouts the chords over and then counts us in. Usually it's a case of, "ok, let's learn this for the next gig". We'd learn it, no rehearsal and then gig it. And some tracks weren't the easiest due to rearranging them for a 3 piece, Ashes to Ashes was one! Dan -
As long as you state to them whats in there, I can't see a problem. Dan
I was never keen on the 2+2 headstock but I really don't mind it anymore, looks a bit metal but it just means I can look good in a metal band.........
Yes!! I know what you mean! I'm with you on that completely. Im planning to make some rosewood control knobs for my fretless basic, they'll be pics in the sandberg porn thread when they get made. Dan
