5. Yes, great traditional jazz tones in passive but awesome slap/funk tones in active I now want to try the California series to see how much better they can be for double the money!
6. I've recently been travelling and needed a /mid-range bass to take with me rather than risk losing or damaging any of my own. I stumbled upon the Sanderg Electra TT4 and have to write about it because I'm absolutelly blown away by just how good it is (especially for the money - it's the Sandberg 'budget' range coming in at leass than £600 new). It's by far the cheapest bass I own but I'm absolutely in love with it! The neck and set-up is amazing. A very slim, fast neck with low action. The basic tonal quality is great and the range of tones are excellent. If anyone's in the market for a bass i this price range I'd urge you to give them a try
7. Mine would be the Wal JG Custom in my avatar. I had a valuation of £5000 this year but one of these sold last week for £7400!
8. My vote is for Chris Childs (Go West, Summers/Fripp, Waterfront etc) - he just produces an amazing natural tone (on fretted & fretless) & great instinctive playing. (+ he's also one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet)
9.
Bought a Wal JG for £500 in Romford back in 88/89 but had to sell it when I returned to Scotland a year later. Got £250 and a beat up SG.
Ouch!!
10. Thanks Nick. It'll be a great day - I really don't want to miss it!
11. I'm only 50/50 at the moment just because work is so unpredictable but if I make it I can bring the JG Custom
12. I loaned my Ibanez Musician to a friend and somehow managed to lose touch with him. I think it was worth around £300 at the time I gave it to him but would be just a tad more these days
13. hmm, very tempting! I'm not too sure why you wouldn't clean it up before taking pictures though??
14. Stanley Clarke at the Jazz Cafe in Camden tonight
15. I brought Davids Rick Turner today. As has been said before - good communication and a pleasure to deal (also a very fair price) so go ahead and deal with confidence
16. The bass buggy (http://www.kcstrings.com/bass-buggie/) was recommended to me by Laurence Dixon and using it for the first time last week I definitely agree with him. I travelled on the tube right across London and back (with lots of changes) & extra couple of hours walking - it made the whole experience a lot easier than I imagined it could be Hope this helps
17. I'm completely new to the double bass and was just searching the forum for good online lessons - you guys have all made it very easy for me with this thread so huge thanks to everyone who's contributed to it with their recommendations (and to Geoff of course for putting the lessons together). I've just bought myself an old Czech hybrid 3/4 to start out on and I'm going to download my first lessons this evening! Thanks guys
18. Hi, Does anyone know when the Briefcase Ultimate will be available in the UK? thanks Andy
19. Hi Owen, I've spoken to the bass centre this week about trying the NS fretted - they do have a small room where you can try stock by appointment but they don't have stock of the fretted NS - worse still, they say that they don't tend to bring them in as there's very little demand (except you and me apparently). they're expecting i a few weeks and are going to give me a call when it comes in if that helps at all (not much, I know)
20. [sup]Great bass at a very good price - have a bump on me [/sup]
21. Thanks Garry - that Larry vid has made my day
22. I've just trusted Martin @ the gallery with my Wal JG Custom and can't recommend him highly enough. I got a re-fret for £130 (2 week turnaround time) and as you'd expect, it's a perfect job.
23.
After many years of using Rotosound, Elites and D'addarios I recently discovered DR strings. Pricey, yes - but tone to die for! They apparently last a long time too so may not be as expensive in the long term as they seem...
I've recently picked up DR's & Elixers at £27 so not too bad considering the extended lifespan.
24. Excellent stuff Scott! - I just watched them all - very clear / concise and, as you said your were aiming to do, demistyfied the basic technique. I hope you're going to keep going with these lessons - can't wait to see the intermediate/advanced series
25. Yet another 'what a nice bloke Mark King is' story ............................ A few years back he came round to the front of house about an hour before he was due on stage and signed a guitar for me I was blown away by what a down to earth to guy he is and also how much time he had for me considering how close he was to going on stage - we spent a good ten minutes chatting while he even helped me cover his signature with sticky-back plastic! An ansolute top bloke
