  1. Has anyone seen any kind of marketing video of the 750 yet?? I find it really odd that Ashdown have launched a £1500 amp, which shows as being available to buy, yet there’s not one single launch/demo video to accompany it

  2. Up for sale is my Dingwall NG2. Laguna Seca blue with maple neck and matching headstock. Being the NG model, it comes fitted with the Darkglass tone capsule 3 band preamp for bass, lo mid, and hi mid. Frequencies are 70hz, 500hz and 2.8khz. It’s a very versatile preamp, as is the bass itself. Hipshot ultra lite tuners, and it’s currently strung with Payson 45-105 strings.  I know we’re used to seeing these being used with a plethora of Darkglass pedals and a brutal distortion tone, but I’ve used this for all kinds of genres and it’s always worked well. It does have a couple of marks on it, there’s a small crack in the finish between two of the control knobs and unfortunately this has chipped a very small amount of the finish away. I’m sure it can be fixed, but it’s never really bothered me too much. There are also some string rub marks on the pickup casing. This is the later, rounded end pick up model. I’ve been trying to find the exact date I bought it, but I’m fairly sure it’s a 2018 model. I was really struggling to put a price on it, the newest model is now around the £1699 mark at Bass Direct, I did do a couple of searches for used but couldn’t find one the same as this, closest I could find was a combustion 4 at £1200. I bought this before they came with a gig bag, but I do have a generic Warwick Rockbag that it will come with. I don’t have a hard case or box so I’m reluctant to post it, but I’m more than happy to travel 100 miles or so from Bristol to do a meet up. I’m not looking for any trades on this I’m afraid, I E got too much stuff already! Open to sensible offers, but I’m not desperate to sell so no silly low ball offers please. Thanks for looking, if I’ve missed anything, please just ask, and if you want any more specific pics, again just ask. * Edit: fresh set of Dunlop nickel steels fitted now. *Price drop to £1075*

On the other hand I ordered something online a week ago and got a receipt etc through. Week later nothing. Rang them today. "oh we don't have that in stock". Didn't even apologise.

Ok, so when were you going to bother getting in touch with the customer who's money you have and who's product you don't have in stock but happily took payment for and kept? Only takes an email or a phone call.

Shame. Bass specific shops are really important but they need to function properly and not take money for gear they don't actually have - that's just poor.

Agreed, that is pretty poor form

  4. I’ve had it a couple of times, in both directions. Had some older guy comment to me after a gig “why buy something which looks so much like a fender, just save up for a real one” when our singer pointed out that my Yamaha Attitude ltd was approximately £2.5k he literally waved his hand at me with a “pffft” expression and walked off! 😂 Was at a bar gig and a younger guy came up to me to talk about gear, was asking about the stuff I had with me, which was a Dingwall NG2, EBS TD650 and a Barefaced Big Twin 2. He asked about the prices of them and then said “if you’re using stuff that expensive for a pub gig, you’ve lost touch with reality”! When I told him that a friend of mine did pub gigs with a bass that cost more than my entire set up, he just rolled his eyes and said “then he’s an idiot”

    Cuts both ways, dunnit?

I once turned up at a jam with an Alleva Coppolo KBP5 and someone asked if I couldn't afford a real Fender ...

Friend of mine went along to a jam night with his beautiful Sadowsky bass, and the guy running the night referred to him as “that guy with the cheap jazz bass copy”

Yes. So not out of pocket or anything like that.

Just be nice not to have try and buy tickets again as I reckon it will sell out fast, and then you have to turn to the overinflated, online touts. Maybe a priority system for folks who had ticket refunds from the other shows.

Logistically, I imagine it would be a nightmare to do.

A very minor, petty gripe I'll admit.

That’s actually a really good idea, if you had a ticket for the planned shows that you could get priority for this show. I think the tickets will sell so fast, their normal shows sell out almost immediately, this even more so I would think

I don't mean to beach, especially over something as sad as this, but it would've been nice if they could've found a way to honour the ticket holders for the London gigs that were due in a few weeks.

I can foresee tickets for these new gigs being rediculous money, especially by the legalised touts, as it will quite possibly/likely be the last time they'll play.

Didn’t they refund all those who had tickets for the planned UK shows?

  8. Another excellent transaction with Mark and the guys at BD. Ordered an Aguilar OBP3 pre amp on Saturday, had the sales invoice on Sunday night(over a bank holiday weekend!) and the pre amp arrived this morning. Can’t knock that

Yeah, think him and Tico were a bit older than Jon and Richie.

Those first 4/5 Bon Jovi albums have some great bass lines on, perfect pop /rock records IMO.

My own personal favourite is 7800 Fahrenheit  , love that album played over and over back in the day.

Weren’t a lot of those bass parts actually played by Hugh Macdonald? Sad to hear of AJS passing.

  10. I think a fair amount of us change our amps just because we want something new to try, or GAS has got the better of us. If I was looking for an amp now and Ashdown was in the running, I’d be thinking what does the Evo 5 give me, that I couldn’t get from a used Evo 4 and have over £1k left in my pocket. Don’t get me wrong, I think it looks great, and if it sounds even better than the Evo 4, it will be fantastic, I just think it’s pitched at a price where there is a plethora of much cheaper, equally high quality amp heads available.

I’m sure it will be an amazing amp but my ABM600 EVO-IV meets my needs nicely so I’ll stick with it. Must admit will be very interested to hear this amp though.

I think that will be the same thought process for most Evo 4 owners. Interested to hear how the 5 sounds, but it would need to be something stunning to make them want to upgrade

I’m in this position but the 1200 is just two x 600 power units that can’t be bridged for a single cab and I’m running a single 4ohm 610 so the 1200 is of no use to me. 750w of Ashdown ABM sound in a single power section is of great interest though!

    Ah that’s interesting, I didn’t realise the 1200 couldn’t be bridged.

  13. I expect the price to drop too. I think it has to. If you’re an Evo 4 owner and you’re going to upgrade to this, at the current price, you’d need to add over £1k to the price you’re likely to get for an Evo 4. The Evo 5 is a great looking amp, but I’m not sure many people would upgrade at that cost. Unless it sounds significantly different, what would you be achieving? If you’re in need of more headroom, then you’d be more likely to go for a much cheaper, used ABM1200 wouldn’t you? Granted this is all based on that current RRP, and I’m sure it’ll come down, but that price seems a massive leap up from the Evo 4

  14. I’ve got some fairly decent quality basses at the moment, a Dingwall NG2, Warwick SS1, Yamaha Attitude Ltd, a Spector….so why oh why am I constantly looking at the ad for a Mexican P bass deluxe which is for sale locally?! I have a strict policy this year, any purchases have to be funded by gig earnings, or something has to be sold to fund it, it’s gotten so bad that I’ve even contemplated selling the Dingwall to buy a Mexican P bass which is under £500. Even more stupid is the fact that, if o roll off the front pickup on the Yamaha, I’ve basically got a DiMarzio loaded P bass. GAS is a strange mistress, I tell thee!

  15. I’ve lent basses to friends plenty of times. My friends daughter has had my Spector bass for about 2 years, she was desperate to learn and they couldn’t really afford to get her a bass. I keep toying with the idea of giving her my Sire V7 as a gift. I’ve also lent my Yamaha Attitude ltd to my wife’s cousin for a uk tour. In the OP’s situation though, I’m not so sure I’d be so charitable

  16. I had a USA P bass, probably about 10 years ago. It was a great sounding bass and lovely to play. Alas, the GAS consumed me and I traded it for a Warwick. Only other P bass I’ve really played was a Squier, and I think the USA def had something about it that made it feel better. I recently tried an American Ultra P bass, and have to say, I was blown away by just how good it was. The gas is back
