Just acquired a Tonehammer 500, looking forward to trying this out at in full band rehearsal

It should be plenty loud enough for my needs, I rarely have to push the master volume on my Shuttle 9.2 past 11 o clock. We shall see though. As I said, I'm likely going to keep the Shuttle long enough to do some A/B testing at gig volume with the band.

Well mine arrived today, had a quick blast with my Bongo, Sire V7 and Streamer LX through my Barefaced Big Twin 2 and am liking what I hear so far. I did think about putting my Shuttle 9.2 up for sale as soon as the TH arrived but I think I'll A/B them at a rehearsal first. First impressions are good though, nice warm tone. Looking forward to giving it a work out at volume. As an aside, and apologies for going OT, but have to say it's a miracle that I got it at all. The seller sent it with Hermes, I've been away for a couple of days and tracking it via myhermes. Checked today before heading home from Devon and was pleased to see it had been delivered and signed for (my retired neighbours take in and sign for parcels for me regularly). However when I arrived home a few hours later, I was staggered to find it wedged under the front of my wife's Mini on our driveway, in full view of anyone who walked up to our front door! So, clearly it hadn't been signed for. If, as a courier driver, you were going to leave a parcel under a vehicle, why would you choose to unsuccessfully wedge it under a Mini and leave it in full view when my VW Transprter was parked right up against the house and would have kept the parcel hidden from view?! Anyway, sorry about the OT rant, will let you know how the A/B with the Shuttle pans out!

There was one on here for £650 a week or so ago, and it sold more or less straight away.

i saw it too, unbelievably cheap!
Likewise! I've had it for a week and thinking I'm gonna keep it! Gonna write up a long review tomorrow for those interested
What did you have previously?
-
Well, curiosity got the better of me and I've got a TH500 incoming! Be interesting to hear how it sounds paired up with my Barefaced Big Twin 2. Will spend a bit of time A/B'ing it with my Shuttle 9.2, with my Bongo, Warwick Streamer and Sire V7. I know they're very differently voiced amps, which is why I've gone for it really, to get something warmer without having to use a pedal. Actually quite excited about this!
I've always wanted one of these so I could be like this guy...
Ahh that clip just never gets old!

Damn, didn't realise Alissia was going to be there. Been listening to her EP a lot recently.
-
Haha, I'll stick with it for a while I think. It sounds great, and that works for me! I quite like the looks of my BT2, but then again I don't think I've ever looked at a cab and thought 'wow, I love that',
-
I should probably replace mine soon, I really miss members of the audience coming up to me at the end of a gig and saying "I love the look of your cab"! 😄
-
4 of my friends have just put one together. They were already a popular covers band, but have now put this 90's britpop thing together as a side project. I think their first gig is next month but I'd say, judging by the amount of interest their first gig is generating, that there is definitely an audience for it.
-
Big selling point for me was the fact I could take the cab, try it out for a month and if I didn't get on with it, return it. Was never in doubt once I started gigging with it, my Big Twin 2 is probably the best piece of music gear I've ever invested in. Mine's got the metal grille and I actually quite like the looks, but more importantly it sounds massive! We are pretty spoilt as bass players now, there's some epic lightweight cabs on the market.

Ok, so this has basically been sat around redundant in our rehearsal rooms for a while. I'm unlikely to use it again, I've had a couple of other rigs since this last saw the light of day, and my Barefaced Big Twin 2 is more than enough for what I'm ever likely to need. It is in need of repair but I'm giving it away free if anyone can make use of it. I would rather it go to someone who wants to repair it and use it as opposed to someone who wants to sell it off in bits. The damage is as follows: Basically someone at the rehearsal space has tried to move it by dragging it sideways, the result of that is that the castor has gone through the bottom of the cab, the castor is only still attached by the covering it's bolted through. It needs 2 new castors as they are both shot, the castors on these things are woeful anyway (sorry Ashdown but they really are!). The covering has a few small rips on the back and bottom and one of the bottom corners has taken a knock. I've tried to show it all in the pics. My original plan was to just get a piece of decent grade ply, paint it matte black, bolt a couple of new castors on and bolt the whole thing on, over the damaged area. The front grille has a few peaks and troughs but that's just a case of taking it off, laying it flat and tapping those out/in. So that's about it really, if any of you has use for an 8x10 and a couple of hours free to do a few repairs, it's all yours! I appreciate that a weekend will suit most people to collect it so I'm not going to say I need it gone in the next few days but at the same time I don't really want it sat in my garage for weeks on end. Down to the wire - Aguilar TH500 or MB Little Tube 800
ern500evo replied to pendingrequests's topic in Amps and Cabs
It's finally decision time. I've had enough of Ampeg. They have had my PF500 for nearly a month and only today did I finally get an update. I love the aesthetic of the Portaflex cabs, so for now I am keeping both (15 and the 2x10) The gigs will range from using either 1 or 2 cabs. So the head needs to meet the requirements of both scenarios. Aguilar TH500 - More expensive, but from the TH pedal it sounds great. Output at 8 ohms is lower than the MB MB Little Tube 800 - Power at 8ohms and 4 ohms, mix between tube signal and dry, but doesn't fit in as aesthetically as the TH500. HELP!
Watching this with interest, I keep looking at the Little Mark Tube 500 and TH500, and also the GK MB Fusion! -
Just realised I've never put a pic of my Bongo stealth in this thread!

Isn't that Davey Pollitt? EDIT of course it is, just watched it again and it says his name at the beginning, I'll pay more attention next time! 😄 -
I've Really been thinking about getting an RH - Can anyone confirm that the pre-amp is the essentially the same on both but with the addition of the 'tweetertone' on the 750 (and the panel layout differences)??
I used them with 2 different cab set ups, so difficult to accurately compare. In my view the 750 sounded much better, but maybe that's just my personal tone preference, I like a bit of top end sizzle and the 750 with its tweeter tone is better in that dept. To me the 750 sounded more 'open' if that makes sense, again that could just be down to tone preference. To put it simply, I don't think I'd rush out to buy another 450 but I would have another 750.

Have just sold a couple of items to Tim, a hipshot and a pickup. What a thoroughly nice bloke to deal with! Prompt payment and good communication, deal with confidence folks.

I've had some work done on a few basses lately, luminlay fret markers in my Sire V7 and Warwick Streamer and set up on my MusicMan Bongo, all done by Simon Bamber at SiCo set ups in Bristol. Can't recommend the guy enough, absolutely first class service, and a very very nice guy to deal with. My Bongo was languishing in its case not getting a great deal of use, always thought something about it just didn't suit me, got it back from Si after a set up and re-string and have to say the difference is absolutely incredible. I believe he used to work at Waghorn guitars, he now has a workshop at the back of his house. http://www.sicosetups.co.uk/

I've had a RH450 and a 750. I had the RH750 at the same time as my GB Shuttle 9.2, it seemed daft to keep both so I decided to move one on. Wasn't really using the features on the RH so that one went, sometimes wonder if that was the right choice! Maybe I'll get another one sometime and give it another go, the 750 is a great little amp.

New cheap Marcus Miller endorsed range of basses - Sire
Specs are up for the new M7 range. 35" neck for the 5 string ;-) http://www.sire-guitars.com/usa/blog/2015/12/14/the-new-breed-of-humbuckers/
I really like the look of that, here we go again! 😄 -
Would be interesting if they offered it as a rack mountable pre-amp, so that you could pair it up with whichever type of power amp you prefer.
