1. Ok, so this has basically been sat around redundant in our rehearsal rooms for a while. I'm unlikely to use it again, I've had a couple of other rigs since this last saw the light of day, and my Barefaced Big Twin 2 is more than enough for what I'm ever likely to need. It is in need of repair but I'm giving it away free if anyone can make use of it. I would rather it go to someone who wants to repair it and use it as opposed to someone who wants to sell it off in bits. The damage is as follows: Basically someone at the rehearsal space has tried to move it by dragging it sideways, the result of that is that the castor has gone through the bottom of the cab, the castor is only still attached by the covering it's bolted through. It needs 2 new castors as they are both shot, the castors on these things are woeful anyway (sorry Ashdown but they really are!). The covering has a few small rips on the back and bottom and one of the bottom corners has taken a knock. I've tried to show it all in the pics. My original plan was to just get a piece of decent grade ply, paint it matte black, bolt a couple of new castors on and bolt the whole thing on, over the damaged area. The front grille has a few peaks and troughs but that's just a case of taking it off, laying it flat and tapping those out/in. So that's about it really, if any of you has use for an 8x10 and a couple of hours free to do a few repairs, it's all yours! I appreciate that a weekend will suit most people to collect it so I'm not going to say I need it gone in the next few days but at the same time I don't really want it sat in my garage for weeks on end. 2.
It's finally decision time. I've had enough of Ampeg. They have had my PF500 for nearly a month and only today did I finally get an update. I love the aesthetic of the Portaflex cabs, so for now I am keeping both (15 and the 2x10) The gigs will range from using either 1 or 2 cabs. So the head needs to meet the requirements of both scenarios. Aguilar TH500 - More expensive, but from the TH pedal it sounds great. Output at 8 ohms is lower than the MB MB Little Tube 800 - Power at 8ohms and 4 ohms, mix between tube signal and dry, but doesn't fit in as aesthetically as the TH500. HELP!
Watching this with interest, I keep looking at the Little Mark Tube 500 and TH500, and also the GK MB Fusion!
3. Just realised I've never put a pic of my Bongo stealth in this thread!
4. Isn't that Davey Pollitt? EDIT of course it is, just watched it again and it says his name at the beginning, I'll pay more attention next time! 😄
5.
I've Really been thinking about getting an RH - Can anyone confirm that the pre-amp is the essentially the same on both but with the addition of the 'tweetertone' on the 750 (and the panel layout differences)??
I used them with 2 different cab set ups, so difficult to accurately compare. In my view the 750 sounded much better, but maybe that's just my personal tone preference, I like a bit of top end sizzle and the 750 with its tweeter tone is better in that dept. To me the 750 sounded more 'open' if that makes sense, again that could just be down to tone preference. To put it simply, I don't think I'd rush out to buy another 450 but I would have another 750.
6. Have just sold a couple of items to Tim, a hipshot and a pickup. What a thoroughly nice bloke to deal with! Prompt payment and good communication, deal with confidence folks.
7. I've had some work done on a few basses lately, luminlay fret markers in my Sire V7 and Warwick Streamer and set up on my MusicMan Bongo, all done by Simon Bamber at SiCo set ups in Bristol. Can't recommend the guy enough, absolutely first class service, and a very very nice guy to deal with. My Bongo was languishing in its case not getting a great deal of use, always thought something about it just didn't suit me, got it back from Si after a set up and re-string and have to say the difference is absolutely incredible. I believe he used to work at Waghorn guitars, he now has a workshop at the back of his house. http://www.sicosetups.co.uk/
8. I've had a RH450 and a 750. I had the RH750 at the same time as my GB Shuttle 9.2, it seemed daft to keep both so I decided to move one on. Wasn't really using the features on the RH so that one went, sometimes wonder if that was the right choice! Maybe I'll get another one sometime and give it another go, the 750 is a great little amp.
9.
Specs are up for the new M7 range. 35" neck for the 5 string ;-) http://www.sire-guitars.com/usa/blog/2015/12/14/the-new-breed-of-humbuckers/
I really like the look of that, here we go again! 😄
10. Would be interesting if they offered it as a rack mountable pre-amp, so that you could pair it up with whichever type of power amp you prefer.
11. Think I may have priced this a bit high for a project, so price dropped to £60.
12. Martin (MB1), this used to be yours, am I right in thinking you had it on a USA Stingray?
13. This is it,
14. I bought this as a project with the intention of upgrading it to a budget Stingray. However I ended up buying a USA 'Ray so this never got off the ground. Black and maple combo and comes with both black and white scratchplates. The pickup and control plate are removed as you can see but they will be included (the p/up has no foams, springs or screws). So all in all, a cheap little project that can be turned back into a usable bass with minimal work and just the p/up bits, or a good basis for upgrading to a higher spec. I have no box or case so would need to be collected from Bristol or can meet up within approx 25 miles from me. 15. Line 6 Bass Pod XT Live, this is a great piece of kit, loads of useful effects and some really good amp and cab sims. It's fairly easy to use, but I've come to the conclusion that the only effect I really have any use for is drive/grit so it's just been used as a practice tool with headphones. It's in excellent condition and comes with original box. The only thing I'm struggling to lay my hands on is the manual, I'm sure I've got it somewhere, but failing that you can download it from the Line 6 website. Payment by bank transfer preferred of you want it posted. Or of course you are welcome to come collect it/meet up somewhere and pay cash. I'm based in Bristol. 16. I'm not entirely sure to be honest, I bought it used. The guy I bought it from had it on a USA Stingray, which is what I bought if for but never got around to fitting it. I'll have to look up the different shaft lengths and measure this one.
17. Here I have a Seymour Duncan SMB4-D ceramic pick up. Bought from this forum for my USA Stingray but never got around to fitting it. The writing on the front has worn off but you can tell it's an original SD p/up as it has the part number on the back. I don't have the mounting springs with it, but if you're upgrading an existing pup you can obviously just re-use your existing springs. Price includes postage.
18. Hipshot BT1 d-tuner in chrome, fits Musicman and G&L basses. Bought this from this forum for my USA Stingray but sold the bass before I got around to fitting it. Comes with fitting instructions. Price includes postage.
19. They've started having an annual fake festival near us, people seem to love it. Day out in the sun, drinking beer and listening to music, why not! My good friend was the 'Angus' in a very popular AC/DC tribute band, he did very well out of it. Played to some huge crowds all over Europe and got paid handsomely for it too. Also, given the amount of AC/DC tribute bands around, he's never short of offers for very well paid deps now.
20. What about adding a second BB2 or a Compact to give you a modular 2x12 rig? Like Dan (Dood), I also use a Barefaced Big Twin 2. It's a great cab for my needs. Having said that, I've always loved the look of Berg cabs. They're IMO probably the classiest looking cabs on the market and those who use them always speak highly of them, I played through a NV610 once and it was epic! Maybe see if there's a bass bash going on near you anytime soon, which would give you the opportunity to try some options out.
21.
I had a similar conversation with somebody about swirled Ibanez guitars. If you got one of those out at the local pub, you better make damn sure you can sweep, pick and tap to hell to avoid any cringe...
Yes, absolutely agree. A friend of mine had an Ibanez Jem 77 floral when they first came out, it was his 21st birthday present from his parents. Amazing instrument to play but he ended up leaving it at home and using a much cheaper/plainer model as he got fed up with people asking him "can you play (insert any Vai lick/riff/song)?" all the time.
22. I'd say in the case of signature basses it can even have the opposite effect. For years I wanted a Yamaha Attitude Ltd but always felt that if I turned up at a gig with one, people would be expecting masses of two handed tapping through a stereo rig at 500mph! Having said that, I'm at the age now where I don't really care about that, which is probably why I can't stop looking at Torvic's sea foam green ltd in the ads section!
