1. If you're ever in Bristol I've got a Streamer LX and a Spector NS2000 you're welcome to try out. Got a RH750, an ABM500 and BF Big Twin 2 always at the house, or just being your own amp/cab.
2. My '09 Streamer LX4 has got probably the slimmest neck I've ever played so you're probably best avoiding those.
3. 5 for me: MM Bongo 4HS Stealth MM Stingray Warwick Streamer LX4 Spector NS2000/4 OLP MM2 Still got gas for a USA P, a Jazz, Streamer Stage 1, Thumb NT and a PDN Bongo in Neptune blue and maple!
4. Both of those isolated tracks are different to the version I've got on a Quadrophenia soundtrack!
5. Wow, just....wow! That is beautiful, GLWTS.
6.
Now's as good a time than ever to buy one on here . Cheaper than I've ever seem them
Agreed! That's why I recently gave in to it, do it do it do it!!
7. If you've played and liked a Hartke HA series amp before, wouldn't it be worth buying the one in the for sale section here and just jumping on a train/coach to collect it. You'd still be within budget and have an amp which you know you like. Just a thought. Good luck in your search man, it can be so frustrating when you settle on something and then they just don't appear to come up for sale.
8.
I was thinking of bringing Russ in as head of barefaced sales actually, lol
Haha On a commission only basis, so no sales, no wages, just to hear him have to praise them to his customers!
9.
Well most of bass chat for a start, lol, and anyone Scottish if they have been reading that thread
Ah you can have a special 'Ray section called 'one trick ponies' just for the non-believers, and even a Barefaced section just for Russ! :-D
10.
Ah well I'm quite chuffed with that then, maybe I should start offering pro set ups
Do it! Get yourself a little shop, I mean who wouldn't wanna visit a shop called Stingray Pete's??
11.
I like my own set up and did one for a bass ern500evo had off Ebay but I bet it wasn't exactly how you like it was it Lee?
Well I haven't felt the need to change anything and it plays lovely, so either I'm easily pleased or you got it spot on Pete!!
12. Look up a series of videos on YouTube by John Carruthers, I think they're on Elixir strings channel, he takes you through the basics. After some persuasion from the good folks here on BC I had my first go at it, with the JC video playing on my iPad while I did it, it's very satisfying! Last one I had done professionally was awful, took it to the same guy I've used many times, not sure if he was having an off day because he's usually very good. I didn't have time to check it when I picked it up and as he'd done plenty of stuff for me before, I didn't think there was any need, but when I got it home and played it, it was a buzzing mess. That sort of convinced me I had to learn how to do it and give it a go.
13.
They were called 133 which I think was part of the EBMM manufacture code. Basically a red, white or blue Stingray with a gig bag for £999 (when they first marketed them) - Stings and Things celebrating 50 years working with Ernie Ball company in the UK IIRC. I don't recall them having a different body wood - all Stingray and Sterling variants have been ash at least since the USA Subs ceased in about 2005 - except one or two specific limited edition runs with mahogany bodies.
They had poplar bodies, I've got one,a blue pearl and maple fretboard 2010 model. Before I bought it I sent the serial number to AJ at MM and he confirmed that it was part of a limited run they did for strings and things, poplar body, limited finish choice and gig bag instead of a hard case. The original owner of mine paid £1050 for it new.
14. I'm in 2 at the moment, rock covers band doing regular gigs, a blues/classic rock covers band which doesn't really take up a great deal of time as they don't gig very regularly, they just call me when they need me. About to embark on an originals project with our drummer and a guitarist friend of his who's been writing his own stuff which he described to me as bluesy/soul/funky/indie/rock type stuff so god knows what I'm getting into there. Drummer and myself were also planning on putting together a more function/party type band just to broaden our horizons and get some decent gigs, if that comes off I'll probably jack one of the cover bands.
15. I've never played a 3eq but I have recently acquired a 2eq and I've also got a Bongo which is 4 band. My experience so far is that in one of the bands I play, the 2 heavy handed guitarist's and their Marshall amps can sometimes make it difficult to find the perfect spot in the mix with the 2eq. What I've done for those situations is saved a tone setting in one the channels of my amp with a bit of bass cut and boosted hi and lo mids, . As I say, I haven't had it long so I'm still adjusting to it, so if I can't dial it in straight away I tend to just reach for the Bongo. However I used it to jam with some friends last week, just drums, cleanish guitar and keys and it sounded incredible, once you get it sat in the mix right it has a real authority to it's sound. I'm sure StingrayPete and drTStingray will be along soon and give you a far better explanation than mine, their knowledge of MM basses is top notch!
16. Saw them in Paris in 1990 as part of the Monsters of Rock tour, they were unbelievable. Great band.
17.
The Barefaced S12 and the Genz Benz STL 9.2 (both in classifieds) would make a fantastic rig.
+1 I can't see you needing more headroom than that rig would offer doing pub/club gigs.
18. I agree with Davehux, grab that Barefaced S12 from Karlfer while it's available, thats gonna leave you £900 for an amp, and you can get a whole lotta heft for £900!! You'll be amazed at how loud, clear, articulate, modern 2x12's are. There's plenty of us here that have gone from 8x10/410+115/410x2 to modern 2x12's and have never looked back. My last 3 cab set up's were 8x10, 115+410 and 115+210. I now use a class D head and a Barefaced Big Twin 2 and i'd never go back the other way, well unless it was a SVT CL and 8x10 and someone else was moving it! If you want brand new i would also add Bergantino CN212 to your list.
19. I've done it, I donated to MNDA, Macmillan and also to wateraid. Don't really understand the negativity, if it raises awareness and gets people to donate a few quid that wouldn't normally then surely it's a good thing?
20.
You are in Kasabian and I claim my five pounds.
I wish! That means I would've been headlining Glastonbury instead of wondering what time to set the alarm to give me time to walk the dog before work!!
21.
I think this is a great story / analogy too love it! But what do you reckon your transfer fee would be? EDIT: And which of you tackled hardest, and which of you feigned injury, or could be seen rolling around the floor? I avoided the obvious, trite question as to who scored most lol
I definitely tackled hardest, it's what I was there for! Playing that far back gave me a great view of guitarist and singer trying to outdo each other as golden boy. As for transfer fee, our manager would have probably happily swapped me for half a packet of Lambert & Butler and some pork scratchings, and I was his captain so that says a bit about the quality of the team! :-)
22. It could be to do with our nature or personality. I was once in a band where we all played sunday football together, our drummer was the keeper, I played as either centre half or defensive midfielder, lead guitarist was our playmaker/attacking midfielder and singer was our main striker. Make of that what you will.
23. Maybe it's worth putting a set of flats on the fretted Streamer and seeing how it sounds then?
24. Don't know if I'm lucky or have just got really low standards, but the build quality on both my MM basses, a 2010 Stingray and a 2013 Bongo, is first class. As others have said, some basses and guitars just don't do it for some people, whilst others love them. Whenever I play my friends Wal I can't wait to give it back, yet another friend of ours is obsessed with it!
