2.
Not to mention the pick-ups being in a different place to your usual, too!
i wonder how he got that factory like finish (on top of that HORRIBLE color )
 3.
That's one of my worries too... it is starting to be an addiction. In all honesty, I dont have need for more than 3 basses... heck dont even have need for more than 2, but the ideas keep comming, and like Mr Foxen said, cant be dealing with standard stuff, so I find myself getting ready to load the squier up with nordstrands and either an AudereZ or an OBP3 (anyone got any thoughts on that choice BTW?) which added up cost more than the bass itself.
And on that note, They've Arrived!!! God, I dont know which preamp to put in... might try both out.
 4.
...but on the downside, the sourcing of parts kind of preoccupied me a little too much...it was rather like an addiction.
That's one of my worries too... it is starting to be an addiction. 5.
I picked up an encore neck and body from the tip for £2. Spent another £70 doing it up. Net worth now - £40? Fun value - priceless. Playability - h'mmm
Well, yeah, I meant to say that you should chose your parts carefully, just like Dr. Frankenstein When a cheap instrument that you've put together completely overshadows your mate's 700€ bass, and you see the look on his face, now, THAT is priceless.
 6. In the beginning, there was GAS, a Sadowsky was bought and the GAS ceased. Now, I have a diferent kind of burn. A friend gave me an old precision body, that got way altered, parts were bought, and slowly but surely my first Frankenstein was built. I honestly didnt expect much, but I was honestly blown away by the results. It wasnt perfect at first, it took another neck than the one I'd bought for it initially, it'll take yet another pickup to replace a sub-par one that's on it, but, over all, I think I did a pretty decent job. is a P+MM with an aguilar obp3 and a Dr Parts Jazz Neck. So, there's only the MM pup that needs replacing at the moment to get that bass to God-like status, ... So, I find myself looking for new challenges. now THIS was unexpected... its like Im GASsing for my next Frankenstein project... Not really for just having a "new" bass, but because I enjoyed getting such a kick*ss result from my first one, all for the price of a Squier VM... So, there's a new one in the making, the base being a Squier jazz 5 Deluxe. This one is one of those rare Sqiers that had quite a decent build, and amazingly enough, the 5th is tight There are drawbacks of course, as Selling Frankenstein basses is almost as hard as selling sh*tty low rung basses... What are your thoughts on this?
 7. My Current Pedalboard. And the Xmas Tree Effect:
 8. I'd be interested in the Bass IQ if you decide to split.
 9. Lately I've discovered a love of modding cheap basses, and since Im not going to mod ze zadowsky... I had a precision body laying around (given to me by a fellow BC'r) to which I added a maple Jazz Neck and: 1x Wizard Thumper precision Pup 1xno-name musicman humbucker (not a bad one) 1x Aguilar OBP-3 That's alive and kicking (quite a lot, lol), but recently, I took advantage of another mate's misfortune. He was still a budding bassist, but in a work accident broke both his wrists, and he didnt recover well enough to keep playing, so I took his Squier Jazz 5 Deluxe. Now, even stock, this doesnt seem to be the average Squier... Quite a nice acoustic sound on it, confortable to play, etc. So, after changing the metals on it (Bridge string retainer, etc.) There's a Pair of Nordstrand 5's heading my way for it, too Im left looking at my preamps, to figure out what to put in it... I have an Audere Z coming with those nordstrands, but I also have the Aggie from the Frankenstein... What do you guys think would go better with the Nordies? ps.: my other bass is a Sadowsky Tokyo 5, so I'd want to get a diferent sound from this Deluxe...
 10.
My Sadowsky Basses together. Thanks Paul for the new one. James
Niiiiiiiiice PJ!! Did that already come with the Pickguard or did you get it put on?
 11. personally, I dont think the tatty rag thing works for you, more against you really... if I was a thief scoping out cars, and found something carefully covered with a blanket, I'd naturally assume there was something worth hiding, therefore, stealing in there...
 12. +1 I was blown away by the quality of the (Precision) "Thumper" that I bought for my frankenstein project... The model name is well deserved... that's got some major thump to it! now I have to change the MM pup... damn you Wizzard!!!
 13.
Simon..im not one for Ric's, but that is so beautiful..seriously im getting GAS for a Ric, and thats rare....!!!!!.Would love to play it...
+1
 14.
Mates wonder why I bring stuff in from the car even if we're just having a brew on the way back from a gig..
+ 1 I never leave stuff in the car for the exact same reason. Never had a bass stolen, thank god, But my car has been broken into at least 3 times, all of those because i forgot to take the face off the radio. Alarm blaring all day, and nobody saw or heard anything... great society we live in...
 15.
but the only one I have come across wasn't anything to write home about in terms of feel and playability. The finish wasn't that great either.
Either you're a lot pickier than most, or that particular bass needed a good setup.
 16.
Heres the latest version of my gigging board, nothing special but works nicely for me.
Oooooooooooh... You have a Talent Booster!
 17. the thing is... wouldnt sound or feel like one.
 18.
Here's one of my personal favourites. Sadowsky number 2 was a metro the same spec as this. Last I heard WaveyDavy had this bass and was gigging it. Bassaussie also had it for a while and it was great.
I tried this one while bassaussie had it... great bass. would have been mine if I wasnt looking for a 5 stringer. My Tokyo 5 (Previously Gwilym's)

... Bloody hell... Doesnt that just take the cake? Gorgeous!
 19. I've never looked back upon buying a 2nd hand TU2. I had a few 5stringers that normal tuners just wouldnt pickup properly, this one works consistently and hasnt let me down.
 20. So... some time ago, while looking for another (specific) chorus, I rushed and bought an EHX Nano Clone. Soon after, I primed the Bid button for that other chorus, and this one stayed in the box. Nothing wrong with it, works well, but its bugging me that its just sitting there, so I've had it up for sale, but noone seems to want it. So, Im considering other options. the box is perfect for the space I have left in my pedalboard, and I need a nice Phaser, so... Anyone know of a Phaser circuit that isnt too hard to put together (i'm only just good enough to solder and not burn my fingers or the components) and that will fit in the Nano Shell? Thx
 21.
It's my first and only phaser; IMHO it can do 'real deep, long swells' but I have no reference so YMMV. I'm mostly a filter/synth/distortion/fuzz fan.
Cheers Jimbo. Does Anyone have any experience with the nano and other phasers so as to compare?
 22.
Do you mean the red pedal between the tuner and the BMS? It's a Subdecay Fembot prototype. Blendable fuzz and frequency modulator, more detail here. It needs careful tweaking to be useful; can be used just as a fuzz or as a lovely noise pedal.
what's your opinion of the nano small stone? can you get those real deep, long swells with it, or does it fail to deliver like some of its nano brothers?
 23.
If you don't learn anything about music you're likely to get stuck playing the same stuff for your entire life. Theory staves off boredom.
I understand what you mean, but, I just wanna play man, I leave the theory to the composers. My ear tells me where I am, and from there I know where I can go. nobody ever taught me that, I just picked it up. Still im not arguing that theory sux and all that, just that not everyone is the same. Ive tried bass books, Private tutors, video lessons, etc. interesting for about 4 mins, then off I go noodling. dlloyd, Its NOT interesting... otherwise everyone would LOVE it.
 24. I dont know if I agree with the OP completely... Everyone is diferent, some deal with boring theory easily, others not really, some have a good ear, some dont. With me, thats what got me playing, when a fine day, I found that I could pretty effortlessly "duplicate" the sounds I was hearing coming from the tapedeck on my dad's old guitar. I didnt know what I was doing, but who cares? I was doing it! When I got a bass, I obsessed with chillipeppers. I knew how to play all of BSSM and previous stuff. Every band that I came across since then, I've picked out a few riffs to learn... I have no formal theory classes, and yet, when I jam something out within a band context, I dont sound like any of the people who's licks I've learnt in the past. In relation to Theory... I've tried it, I simply cant focus long enough on it to get something useful from it. Bores the crap out of me. What I cant figure out is... why do you put yourself through it? Unless you're aiming to make a living as a bassplayer, I dont see the point. Reminds me of something a friend told me. "Everyone wants to be at the top, but they forget that happiness is on the way up." Personally, I'd rather have fun on the way up, even if I dont make it as high as some of the others.
 25. Are we getting to that "Mojo" thing? You know... the one in that some people claim that its the imperfections that give fenders (just an example) their "character"? When I tried Bassaussie's Sadowskys, I also tried a couple of his vintage jazz and precisions, etc... you know what? they were ALL great. All very different in feel and sound too.
