1. Hey, please forgive me if this is a repost, I did do a quick search but didnt find what I wanted. The Idea is: At the moment I feel my Rig is just taking up space, and there's nothing I do with it to justify the output it has and space it takes up. Though I do love its sound. Here it is: Mark Bass Little Mark F-Series Limited Edition EBS Proline 2000 4 x 10" So, I'm considering selling this and getting a nice combo. I've had an EBS GORM 2x10 before, and though it was nice, it didnt have much low end, and it was way too bright for me. The Markbass + Ebs gives me the perfect balance for me, as the MB head is somewhat darker than the EBS HD350, but the cab lets out a lot of power. I'm looking for something mid/high end, quality sound, not stupidly expensive, along the same kind of lines as what I have now, but lighter and easier to get around, and with PA output, just in case. Should be enough to handle small/medium gigs. I like to be able to get a sound that is deep, but has clarity. dont like farting amps, I like definition and power in one. Think Sadowsky, nice and tight lows and a nice enough snap on the high end. Lets start by what I DONT want: AMPEG, TRACE, Ashdown, Warwick, etc.
2. "the best" is a highly personal thang... to me, the best of the basses I've tried/Owned is a Sadowsky 5, but thats me. might not float your boat , might be over your budget, etc.
3. I've got the MB LM F-Series... nice head, lots of usable sounds, nice and small, though I may consider selling it as the ebs cab that goes along with it is a heavy mofo, and I'm looking to get a smaller more portable rig. (Big Rigs and Coupes dont mix.)
4.
Jury is still out on the scratchplate - so I may still get my black, black, maple...
No way mate, that looks sweet as it is!
5. hmmmm deep thread... In the comparing basses department, in some ways recently I've changed my mind on something. a friend has a squier 5 string and 2 things, I've always been of the opinion that 1 - Squier Sux, 2 - on ANY fender/squier bass the 5th was bound to be crap... I couldnt believe what I was feeling/hearing when I tried it out... it was a solid instrument, nice tight B... Still, my sadowsky kicks its butt... Placebo or not, in my twisted little world it feels good.
6.
And i don't join a band that hasn't got: 1. Market potential 2. Decent tunes 3. Musicians who can play That's my thinking anyway Dan
Ah, but here's the thing... Portugal's music scene is pretty much unexistant except for pop music, so anything more alternative than that wont have a market. So, its either: Covers band or Originals for the fun of it. Usually Im more into the originals thing, but its also frustrating cause we cant really play anywhere except 3 or 4 multi-band events a year. thing is, even if we dont get to play anywhere interesting, and its just for fun, personally I feel like we still need to do our best to sound good. and its just not happening... the drums tempo oscilates, so it doesnt glue with the bass, unless I am constantly sizing up his tempo and doing my best to fit in (usually killing my groove), and if the rhythm section isnt there, then nothing else will sound good... I think I may just need a timeout. as for the combos... yep, its something like that that I've been looking for, but I've heard some bad things about MB speakers... I think that markbass head + ebs cab is the perfect compromise to my sound, where the MB sounds mellow, the EBS Brightens it up, but not as much as having the same cab with an EBS head. Any ideas about that kind of sound with a combo? a mate has got a combo + extension cab from GK which sounds pretty nice too, but its nowhere close to 400w rms... I think with the extension its 150 rms.
7. So... Ever felt like we are just moving from one doomed project (band) to another? I'm feeling like that once again. I've been playing in bands since I was 16, I'm now 29... Jeez, 13 years... One of my mates is a very gifted bassplayer, and I didnt really understand him until now, cause he refuses to get into bands. he plays for himself... now I understand. Every band that I've been in has had problems, this is normal. Ego, etc. but what I find really breaks them is the idea of a "group" of individuals, individually working together (or dragging ass) for individual pleasure as opposed to a group that will work together for a common goal/pleasure. I've been trying to find the latter for a long time, but it seems unattainable. So... what to do? I've invested in equipment over the years (maybe not to the extent of some of our BC'ers lol) to make sure that when the time came to break out of the studio/garage I'd have what I'd want to hear myself playing live. Seems a stupid idea now. the Sadowsky was a good investment. thats totally personal. but here I have my Markbass head and ebs quadbox and even though I think its a great mix for my sound, and I'm totally happy with it, seems like its not being used to its potential. I mean, I could keep the rig, but in the end, if things keep going the way they always have, then whats the use of having this kind of rig taking up space and tying up money? (Not to mention that I cant raise the vol past 2 at home or I'll get murdered by my neighbors.) I've thought a few times about quitting on bands completely and just doing it for my own pleasure at home, but I always endup feeling the need of a good old jam with a few other meat-popsicles. So, what to do... quit bands or not, trade off my rig for a nice, light, quality combo? feel free to slap some sense into me.
8. I've got the 5 string Tokyo version. hehe
9.
It's a shame you cannot see the block inlays, a maple fretboard on it would have been awesome.
+1 The sparkly bit doesnt do it for me, if it matched the inlays better, it would have been ace. absolutely loved the inlays, but would stand out better on maple.
10. most jazzbasses, Ibanez, Rickenbackers, and MTDs...
The FX25...generally it's just to unpredictable to use usefully.
Right on the money. I have let go of mine exactly for that reason... the vol spikes were horrendous. the fx25b's strength was that it did manage to lessen that effect because of blending in the dry signal, but it was pretty useless too. At the moment I have a micro qtron which is ok... nothing spectacular, but its a little more usable than the dod versions... (dunno about the 440, never tried it.)

13. the last few things I got sent in to portugal from the UK, mostly pedals, have been though parcel force with no problems, though Gwilym sent me a bass via UPS, it was expensive-ish, but I wanted insurance on that particular bass... still, no problems.
14.
this is how i sent Bassaussie his Sadowsky...
Bassaussie? hehe, I really need to change my username, 2 aussie bassplayers in portugal, and thats what you get. hehe.
Once I had the case all closed, I chucked it about a little bit
You barstard!
15. If a cardboard box is hard to find for it, then just get a wide sheet of bubblewrap and tape it securely about the hardcase. I have had 2 basses shipped to me in this way and there was no damage whatsoever to the case. also, the last, since it was a semi-hardcase, like the sadowsky ones, also had cardboard taped on the ends just for a little extra protection.
16. I would definitely take off that pickguard and that bass would look great... thats the weakest link.
17.
A++ for Dave (Aussiephoenix). He bought my Sadowsky Tokyo 5 jazz bass. Totally smooth transaction from London to Portugal, with the added bonus that the bass turned up in one piece and he loves it ;-) Cheers Dave!
That I do! thanks Gwil!
18. Its all down to taste and depth of pocket I guess. Yammys have never really done much for me, I think partially on the look side of things, though a few very good instruments are to be had at the higher specs. then again, you're getting into a pricerange where, for me, there are much more interesting things about like the TRB5PII someone was talking about up there. Overall, I find their basses FAT (not in a good way, but in a ugly and uncomfortable way), bland electronics, and very rapidly declining value in the 2nd hand market. considering mass production, I'd definitly go for a Fender or even an Ibby before I settled on a Yammy but thats me.
19. the GT6b wasnt any different in my perspective... most of the fx simulations were for guitar, with the addon of being able to set the percentage of dry/wet fx, which is the ONLY thing that saved it IMO. it was launched at about the same time as its line6 counterpart, which came with proprietory software and usb connection, the gt6b didnt have that, nor have they made any effort to get that going anytime soon, the amp models were a very STRANGE sellection, considering what we have available... lets face it, bassplayers, to the rest of the world are unseen and will always plug straight into the amp, with no need for fx or anything of the kind. bah.
20. do NOT slap on a P bass... a rare and unfounded urban myth is going around that a saw blade will materialise between the 2 coils and saw off your pinky's nail... ... ... Course you can slap on a P bass... you can slap on a rickenbacker, you can slap on a fretless bass... Hell, Reggie Wooten slaps on a stratocaster!
21.
If it's in a guitar shop, I normally can't remember a single one!
Funny how that happens isnt it? sometimes I cant for the life of me think up some song to play. I endup playing a few basslines from my covers band, like: anouk - the dark, AIC them bones (if its a 5r), sitting on the dock of the bay, etc... other than that, a few of my many original songs and more than a few doodles in between.
22. Just recently became the new owner of Gwilym's Tokyo Sadowsky 5. Thanks for a great bass, and for your patience, it took a while, but we both knew that was going to be the case. cheers mate. Recommended. Would happily do business again, though this last trade has left me in No-GAS-Land.
23. pms replied/sent.
24.
Get a Compressor and a small TB loop. Stick the filter and compressor in the loop. You can then kick in the compressor to tame the volume at the same time as kicking in the filter. That way you get consistent levels, with a filter you like. Would probably cost the same as a filter that would suit your needs.
i got the fx25 in the wobo 2 looper and right before the end of the chain of fx, OUT of the looper, I have the ebs multicomp... maybe I need to recheck my compressor settings...
25. Hopefully, some people will refrain from displaying the type of conduct that was shown on my last sale topic... If you have exception to something that is on here, please take it up with me personally (PM), any trades or offers should be made by PM also. 1) I will consider trades for 4 string basses (what have you got?) 2) The sale value includes Hardcase, no shipping... Shipping value will depend on the options you want (contact me for quote.)
