During my limited experience with Stingrays and Ray-style basses I always found the G string to be very weak - not in volume necessarily, but it always vanished 'in the mix'. Compression didn't really help.

Superb! It reminds me of the one Entwistle played for about a week in the 60s. The Youtube clips are very promising, lots of filthy growl and rattle!
