  1. Ooh! That is absolutely glorious!
  2. "Have, a good, time, ALL the time." - Viv Savage
  3. I've decided to go down the route of getting a clean and powerful amp - not necessarily 'neutral' but something that can serve as a blsnk canvas - and relying on preamp pedals for colour. I've realised that my Tech 21 Leeds and VT pedals give me the tone that makes me happy, and for more modern flavours I use Warwick/Spector and Darkglass. The wonders and ease of modern technology. That said, the new GK Legacy heads are very tempting...
  4. Agreed. If you want that clank and rattle, it's got to be old school single coils - noise and all. The Rick humbuckers are a lot darker.
  5. Very nice... do you have any higher res pics?
  6. Those demo videos sound fantastic! It's a pity you're so far away...
  7. That's RIC's M.O! Precisely this. Nothing more lifeless than trying out a Rick in a shop and being plugged into a TC Electronic combo. Ricks demand amps, or at least a preamp, with character and colour.
  8. Admittedly, further to my earlier comment about my 4004's neck, the 4003s had unpleasant necks at the time as well.
  9. My 4004 had a horrific neck. An absolute lump. I'm guessing it was an early one.
  10. 4004s are updated 4003s with contoured bodies, simplified wiring and without all the antiquated features like large body cavities and bridges. The pickups are humbuckers and are much darker and fatter. You can get vintage sounding pickups to fit though, which is something I've fancied doing
  11. I think Jon Hall has already retired and his son is in charge now - hence the appearance of the 4005, something Hall Snr vowed would never happen. Admittedly, it's a 4005 in name only, looking more like a modified 330.
  12. Yes, intonation all good. The last setup I had - with different strings - gave a more uniform look to the saddles.
  13. There's even a DRUM FILL button! I'd invite her back for another audition.
  14. Just got back from rehearsal... BRUTAL tone from the new bridge (middle?) pickup alone, the clank and growl I've wanted to hear from my Rick for ages! The band were getting annoyed by the sheers aggro coming out of the speakers but who cares. That pickup alone is a bit middy so I had to crank the lows but I got away with it. As soon as my stereo splitter is repaired I'll be unstoppable!
