  1. What was so bad about the Studios? I did try a Studio 5 once - I didn't like it much, but I'm not too fond of 5 strings or modern Thunderbirds so it was never going to work for me.
  2. It's not pointless at all! Instant Machine Head. And it's great when running in stereo for copping the early Geddy and Chris Squire tones. Admittedly, if I'm gigging straight into one amp, the vintage mode isn't really useable live, but in the studio or in stereo it's invaluable - it's what a Rick should sound like to me.
  3. Ah, the Gibson Studio! I haven't played that one.
  4. The bolt-ons have necks closer to Precision size, but they could never be described as baseball bats. My Vintage Pro has a supremely comfy neck - for me. I like a narrow nut but not a shallow profile - this Thunderbird has a nice deep curve to the neck.
  5. So that's where all those unsold Mavericks ended up...
  6. You'll be able to reach no problem. I'm 6ft 3:
  7. I've got away with it so far... 😁
  8. It certainly sits and hangs differently to basses with a more conservative design - it's always felt very comfy to me, but I know a lot of people find it too extreme. It's a longer reach to the first fret, for example. It's a cliché but it's one you really have to try for yourself. The Vintage Pro sounds exactly how a Thunderbird should, to my ears. Front pickup, a bit of overdrive - Wishbone Ash, Cheap Trick. Clean it up a bit, both pickups - Quadrophenia. It's a glorious instrument.
  9. I bought Rory's Tech 21 Bass Boost Chorus, and a glorious pedal it is too. The pedal arrived on time and it was VERY well packaged. A great person to deal with!
  10. Mine plays wonderfully. Glorious neck.
