The current models have an updated bridge with adjustable saddles. Still got that massive mute system, but the Hipshot's a direct swap if it's a pain. Some ltd edition Ricks are coming out with single truss rods but I don't think they're standard. That said, if you're competent at setting up a bass, a double truss rod isn't too much of a headache.

The distortion wouldn't come from the Demon, so you'd have to trigger that separately if you want to play clean when not screaming. Put your drive/fuzz right next to the wah and practice your tap dancing 😆 I should point out that the Demon has both guitar and bass settings - to get the scream, leave it in guitar mode and crank the low EQ on the pedal to avoid losing your low end.

So, Cliff Burton then 😆 The best wah pedal I've found for that scream is the Ibanez Weeping Demon - a regular bass wah isn't going to manage it. Use lots of Muff as well.
