  1. I bought this in here a few weeks ago but it's not really the sound I'm after. Excellent condition, velcro on the bottom but the original rubber feet are included.

Comes with the original box, literature and badges.

Trades considered for other overdrive/distortion pedals.

    PRICE DROP - £70

    Price includes postage.

    Official stuff:

The Pork Loin Overdrive blends a soft-clipping OD path and a modified classic British preamp with an array of controls that deliver extensive tonal possibilities.

The Pork Loin Overdrive incorporates two distinct tonal pathways that are blended together-a modern soft clipping overdrive and a modified classic British preamp for clean. At the heart of the overdrive path is a soft clipped BiFET overdrive gain stage with a passive Tone control, rounded out by a Curve function that gives the user freedom to fine-tune corner frequencies. The Volume control regulates the masses of pork power that exude from its space age circuitry, leaving room for the Clean control to blend in its warm glistening clean tones. Additionally, the Pork Loin Overdrive has three internal mini controls: Filter and Voice deliver extensive tonal shaping possibilities, while the overdrive Mix control allows the Pork Loin Overdrive to be run as a clean preamp. With a wide range of dynamic tones, the Pork Loin Overdrive is the premier overdrive pedal on the market today!

  2. I'm selling this as it's far too big for my needs. Frame and bag are in excellent condition. The velcro could be a bit tidier but it does it's job.

Board measures 61cm x 32cm. Pedal NOT included, for scale purposes only.

Offers considered - would also consider part-ex for a smaller board.

On Monday 13th May, Ralph Beeby & the Elephant Collective - which is to say, me with a couple of acoustic guitars - will be heading up to Oxford to provide an evening's entertainment in the form of some furiously fingerpicked folk-blues, in the vein of Davy Graham, Bert Jansch, Ralph McTell, etc.

The venue is the Bullingdon Cocktail Bar: 162 Cowley Road, OX4 1UE - same building as the well-known music venue, but I understand this will be in the separate bar area.

Music from 8pm-11pm, free entry (though the purchase of many large rounds of drinks is advisable to keep the guv'nor happy)

If you've not heard this outfit before, you can do so below, or via the Bandcamp link in my sig

If you're inclined to use the Facebooks, there's an event page here: https://www.facebook.com/events/379182622667504/

    Excellent! Liked on FB.

I've not played a Rebop but I'm tempted to try one out. Are they much different to the neck-thru basses both sound-wise and playability?

Mine had a very light body which unfortunately resulted in very poor balance. It just felt odd. But it sounded wonderful. Spectors generally do

I have always been in love with Thunderbirds and wanted one so badly. I decided to try out an Epiphone one and it was so meh, I couldn't believe it. I eventually sold it on eBay. Thing is, I don't know if its because it was an Epiphone and I still have terrible gas for a real one!

The Epiphone was lacking in power and just didn't sound great. I was really disappointed!

    Was it the bolt-on?

    All,

I have a TE 7215 SMC and I'm setting up to play on NYE (and this is important) and connecting to another TE Cab and suddenly the amp falls silent. No power.  I've tried all the usual stuff (changing leads etc) and had an electronics whizz friend of mine take a look. He could find no blown fuses or anything obvious. Anyone have any ideas what this could be?

Setting up 9 months in advance does seem a bit excessive, but at least it gives you plenty of time to properly sound check.

    Good morning BC'ers.

I am a huge fan , and great admirer of a legendary British bassist, who has been around for years, is unique as a player, really innovative... but never gets mentioned in this forum.

    I'm referring to

    Colin Hodgkinson.

Any other Colin & Back Door fans here??

As soon as I saw your thread title I though, "Colin Hodgkinson". An absolute master, one of the few bass players (IMHO) to make solo bass sound completely natural and without interfering with the inherent nature of the instrument itself.

Pretty sure he is now the bassist for Ten Years After.

Yeah, he's with TYA now. I wish they would play some gigs over here, but they seem to concentrate mainly on Europe.

  9. Update: I spoke to a helpful guy on the phone who sounded pretty embarrassed about the whole thing. A return was arranged, but according to the email I would need to pack with bubble wrap and a box - even though it was only sent to me in a bin bag!

The chap on the phone confirmed this was correct. Luckily I've got a few boxes in the loft. After some bartering I managed to get the case for £60 to avoid the hassle of returning it, but ultimately I just thought sod it and it's being collected today. Doubtless it will be put straight back up for sale.

  10. I've been searching high and low for a hardcase for one of my Thunderbirds. These things are like gold dust at the moment! Dawsons seem to be the only place with any in stock, so I ordered one. I ordered a similar case about a year ago and had to return it due to it being a bit damaged, but it was replaced without question and I couldn't even remember where I had got it.

It arrived wrapped in bin bags and sellotape, with no protection. Not a good sign. I took pictures just in case the case had been damaged.

Peel off the bin bag - case seems structurally sound, some minor wear to the edges. Clearly not brand new but no big deal, should be able to wangle a few quid off with Dawsons.

Sadly, closer inspection shows the wear to be a little bit worse than I thought. The case looks like it's been used a fair bit. Or thrown around.

Then the plot thickened. I noticed a very distinctive 'piercing' to the case, as if stabbed with a knitting needle. Right through the outside. I looked up my previous purchase from a year ago and the subsequent correspondence with the dealer. Yes, you've guessed it - it was Dawsons, and it's the exact same case. One year later.

I'm astounded. Not only that the case has made it's way back to me, but that an item returned as clearly damaged can find it's way back into circulation. I wonder how many times it's been sold and returned in the past year.

I've re-sent the email from last year to customer services, with an update of today's discovery. I'll be interested to get a response.

  11. It would have been a better comparison if all the basses were played in the same way. Slapping one and then heavily palm muting another doesn't give a great idea of what they sound like.

A wider range of basses and styles would have been nice. And I doubt everything is 'wide open' either.

Yeah, I'm having a bad day before anyone asks 🤣
